Well this is quite the surprise. Fellow Seibertronian D-Maximal_Primal and others have told us of a new review for the upcoming deluxe class Slug (Slag) from the Transfomers Cyberverse line. We had never seen an image of this toy and now we see it's already been packaged and ready for distribution. Then again, this is now how we get to see these Cyberverse toys since Hasbro no longer reveals them and relegates them to retail finds. It is understandable since the line is not meant for collectors, but this toy in particular is the kind of toy collectors have been asking for. Not something meant for them (us) directly but at least the type of toy we used to find in the lines supporting a cartoon, like the RID warrior class figures. Something meant for kids but that any age group would enjoy, like the Beast Wars toys of old.

Since there is no BAF component, this Slag comes with quite the arsenal, including a long cannon and an axe that can be mounted atop the Triceratops mode.

For those wondering, there is a Snarl that will also be coming to the deluxe line and a bigger Sludge figure released in the Ultra class.

Between this new Cyberverse Slag, and the previously shown Cyberverse Sludge...I'm starting to get fairly excited for these. I find the aesthetic of these Cyberverse Dinobots interesting....stylized, but with (mostly) more anatomically correct\modern dinosaur modes vs the G1 Dinobots. Not only is it nice to see other Dinobots (besides Grimlock) finally getting some Cyberverse love, but these new figures should be easier on my wallet as well...

Not gonna lie, the article title (and the fact I tend to zoom down to look at the photos before reading the article), I got super confused when I saw the color scheme. It looks amazing, tho. I may pick this dude up if I ever see him in my store.

If he was generations leader class size, or even a bulky voyager, I think I actually would prefer this over the studio series version. He is G1 enough, while having a more modern design.

Im kind of on the fence. I want him to be cool, to be perfect..Especially with not having seen a single new transformer in months....

I really like the Dino mode. I preffer it to the SS86 one, since I think they botched the hind legs on that one, making them look so puny. And the Dinosaur frill is nice here, feels more like a Triceratops and makes for a nice effect in Robot mode.

You know, hollow bits aside he actually looks really really good! I love the colours, and the triceratops mode is awesome.

It's a really nice design. I like the look a whole compared to other Slags at that size.

But I'm done collecting G1-esque Grimlocks and other dinos. The Studio series is their last hurrah for me.

Honestly, if they have to keep releasing the same characters, I'd prefer this. I like the idea of modernizing existing designs, allowing the brand to grow and do new things while still banking on nostalgia.

Well then, guess he would still be better than anything on these constantly empty shelves I've seen within 100 miles for months

Due to a lack of reveals, the Cyberverse line has been full of surprises lately with toys that look great and others that are really lacklustre, you'll choose where this news fits. We had a listing of a Volcanicus toy coming but it's Ultimate Class price point was relatively cheap for a combiner. That's because, as it turns out, he isn't a combiner. Still looks like one though, with the individual combiner limbs sculpted with the individual dino heads near the legs. However, the toy itself goes from gestalt to a quadrupedal Dragon beast. While other toylines for very little kids do something similar (see image of Playskool Power Ranger below), it doesn't happen as often with Transformers. The toy being a "combiner" is stated on the back, referring to the character in the fiction/show, but that is bound to stir some confusion, bot for kids and parents. The images were found on Amazon.

...I...I may actually like this one more than the SS86 one.
I think he looks good in both modes...where SS86 is kind of boring to me.

That Volcanicus actually please me a lot! I don't care that it's not a combiner. Taking it as it is, it look like a ton of fun! Plus not gonna like, he looks BAD-ASS!

I may not buy him at full price, but I'll keep an eye open for a sale.

Well that really wasn't what I was expecting! I don't mind it though, my eyebrow twitches more looking at the box for the power rangers toy, seeing The wildforce red ranger, green Dino charge Ranger, blue and yellow dino thunder rangers fighting Rita Repulsa :lol:

For me, it's the "Go Go Power Rangers" bit that's bothering me. It's a Wild Force toy, so it oughta say "Guardians of the Earth, United we Roar!"

I didn't know you knew your Power Ranger teams ZeroWolf, very cool.

Also, the reactions to this toy here and on facebook are far more favourable than I thought. Seems people are finally getting the idea that this is the kids line.
