Greetings, Transformers HasLab Deathsaurus Fans! Hasbro's here with another backer update.

Our good friend and product designer, Evan, has been working tirelessly to ensure that your Emperor of Destruction, HasLab Deathsaurus, is coming along to be a perfect display piece in your Transformers collection! After all, the Emperor wants his figure and form perfect from the start...but, as Evan will tell you, that's not always the way it works out.

Join Evan as he talks you through everything that we look at and evaluate when our early samples arrive, and how we refine your item to be sure it is worthy of its HasLab title. You'll see some side-by-side comparisons with our previous HasLab, Victory Saber, as well as get some sneaky behind-the-scenes information on how Deathsaurus, Pipo, and Boater came to life.

I still love how cheeky Evan was about the whole "don't say transform, say convert" mandate in the video with his little comment.

The cool-headed me keeps thinking: "Without a really premium paint deco & all the bonus tier accessories, it's really just a slightly-better-than-Commander-Jetfire level of engineering figure, for 3 times the price." But I can't NOT have it when I got VS. These 2 of a shelf is going be look awesome.

I know there's a reason behind it, but why can't they say "transform "? That's literally in the NAME of the brand.

And that is exactly why. Once it becomes as engrained into the public mind like Kleenex and Q-Tip are for tissues and cotton swabs, it's in danger of becoming generic and thus no longer eligible for trademark or market protection. Then what are we gonna call the line? We've already had Convertors as a competitor line.

Precisely, if it becomes genericised then that means other companies can start putting out their own "transformers" that aren't official Transformers, and that'll probably confuse parents too.

But while we may generisize terms, No other company can use them. Sure I may say "get me some Kleenex", but no other copmay can uze that name on their product other than Kleenex itself. All others are just Various types of facial tissues. I don't think Hasbro should worry about it. They can still sue out of existence anymore else that tries to put out another toy with that name

Can they say they GO into alt mode or robot mode, then?

Can they GO into BOT mode?!?

Well, ever since they bought out Tonka.

Though there is an awkward 3-way legal tug of war preventing them from doing much more than that...

It's simple. This is the easier (and cheaper) solution.

Not to mention Law is a mine field that can blow up in your face unless you know exactly how to use the Chewbacca Defense.

Back to Deathsaurus... Is it bad I'm more interested in the Micromasters?

I'm with you BTH. Deathsaurus in it's current state is not that exciting. This Haslab sold me on the decos, not the engineering. What I'm interested to see in the MMs is whether Hasbro fixed the ball & pin joints on those new molds.

The difference is that "Q-Tip" and "Kleenex" are made up words that are easily trademarked. "Transformer" already existed in the dictionary before the brand and they made no real effort to alter it putting it at risk of being revoked. If it weren't for the loose 80s trademark laws I wonder if they would have gotten it in the first place.

It still seems to be a lame mandate by Hasbro corporate. I'll never *not* cringe when I hear the term "convert" in a TF toy video. Heck, dosen't the Robosen Optimus Prime still respond to the audio command to Transform, even though hack shills like Kevin Smith who promoted it still used the word convert?

Great news for all those who ordered the Haslab Deathsaurus figure. We have new images from In Demand Toys and those include images of the box. Also, the figure was present at the ACGHK2023 show in Hong Kong amid a large Transformers section. You can see those images below. The images of that event come from Snakasblog.

I still can't wait to get my hands on my copy, I'm glad this design is getting a modern official figure. The original toy looked awesome. (I really love how this toy keeps the OG toy's stylings and detailing while using the anime inspiration to polish up the proportions.)

One thing immediately came to mind when I saw the Kaiju mode: big drumsticks

Seriously, he gives PotP Grimlock and ER Snapdragonm a run for their money.
