Seibertronian Diem has given us the weirdest piece of news this week: He was apparently able to buy a Hasbro Masterpiece Bluestreak for 3 cents at Toys R Us!
Here's his account of the situation:

Just found MP Bluestreak scanning for $0.03 at my local Toys R Us in Ventura County CA. The cashier couldn't explain the price but was happy to sell it to me at that amount.

It's unknown if this extreme steal of a deal is applicable to any other Hasbro TRU Masterpiece figures, or at any Toys R Us stores across the country, and the price could have been corrected by now in the Toys R Us computer systems.

If you can't buy Bluestreak for pocket change, he is available for a discounted, albeit higher, price of $37 on Toys R Us' website.

For the record I tried scanning MP-10 at the same location but it came up at the regular price, sadly.

That's insane. I'd go try it at my toysrus, but it doesn't stock masterpiece stuff for whatever reason. Side note: why bother linking the page for bluestreak even thing it's sold out?

$0.03 is a price code that TRU uses when an item is supposed to be pulled from the floor and sent back to the warehouse. It basically says that it's been in the store to long and it's time for it to be removed. If you find something marked $0.03, they can't stop you from buying it luckily.

I would implore others to not go hunting about for these. This basically just means that particular store didn't do something they were supposed to do with the item at some point. I'm not sure of their processes but likely this got lost, the item went through all possible clearance markdowns, and it sits in their systems with a placeholder price. However, if things got followed properly, they were probably either supposed to send these back to some nebulous place (distro center, RTV warehouse, liquidator, etc) or throw it away. Not joking on the last part, sadly.

Usually when a price is marked like that, all of the items were supposed to be returned / destroyed, with credit given to the store for the recall. Once it is down that low, if someone tries to return it (after finding it in a trash can from a destroy order), they will only get pocket change.

We use to do that at OfficeMax with cases of paper, pens, and even furniture.

I used to work for Toysrus and can tell you exactly what the three cent price was about. When an item rings up at .03 means we are carrying that item anymore and they should have been removed from the store to be sent to discount stores, after you purchased yours the staff is supposed to remove the rest from the shelves and taken to the back room to be shipped off. I sold some $100 headsets for .01 to a customer once because the company changed the packaging they come in the old boxes were discontinued they are great finds when you discover them.

Not a Transformer I got a really !@#$ good deal on but it was the Power Rangers Time Force Quantasaurus Rex Megazord back in 2002 normally its $89.99 as its the Deluxe one but I got it for $0.01

Same thing happened to me with an exclusive terminator reaction figure, they gave it to me for free though because they couldnt charge tax since the price was so low. Thought i got a good deal with that but this puts it to shame.

And here I was happy I got a package of Oreos for 50 cents from the supermarket. :lol:

They were the discontinued Firework Oreos. Regular Oreos were on sale for $2 so they had to stick them on clearance at $1.50, but they also had $1 off coupons on them.
