The way it tabs into his rump is a bit awkward, so I'm guessing trying to open it by pulling on it can bend it the wrong way. It's actually easier to unlatch it by pulling back on the rump.
This seems like it might be part of the problem, but it's definitely not the whole thing. I'd been opening WW's cockpit that way from the very start, and it still broke in fairly short order. I think someone's previous analysis from
waaaay back in the thread was probably correct: the yellow plastic is a little fragile, and when it experiences friction against both the metal pin and the somewhat-rubbery clear red plastic next to it, it comes under significant stress resulting in the yellow plastic shattering or disintegrating.

Sucks that there really doesn't seem to be anything we can do to prevent it...
But, on the other hand, has anyone picked up a Wave 5 reissue of Wolfy yet? I wonder (though doubt) if Hasbro may have become aware of the issue, and had enough time between releases to tweak
something that'd help it not break from looking at it funny. (I hesitate to get one myself since I really don't feel like paying for a duplicate Deluxe if it's just gonna break again. So, if anyone missed WW before and just got theirs from this wave, it'd be interesting to hear what the sitch is with him!) A man can hope, I suppose.
