Ah. I just noticed this on Megatron but I see it's true here too.
The fists/hands are being rounded off, just like they were in the cartoon instead of the squared off style they have been for forever. I actually properly hate that. When did that start?

Looking back it seems to have started with Ironhide.
BTW, BlackLai posted on his blog that these came from Hasbro Taiwan and are unfinished samples rather than final products.

Uh, please don't speak for the fandom. It never works out well. It's what SOME fans want. However, as a collector of Maasterpiece since MP-o1, it's NOT what I want. This over simplification that's been occurring of late is NOT what I want from a line called MASTERPIECE.

How are "more accurate hands" an oversimplification?

Hmm. So it started around when the designer position switched from Hasui to Kobayashi (albeit, after the Tracks mold).Emerje wrote:Big Grim wrote:Ah. I just noticed this on Megatron but I see it's true here too.

Over simple as it is part of the over simple cartoon direction they're now taking. This is a reasonably new thing they are doing. Simple as that. They are accurate to the cartoon only. I'd have rather they kept to the more squared off actual ROBOT looking hands.

Marvel's G1 comics had rounded fingers for the robot characters too, depending on the artist.Big Grim wrote:Microraptor wrote:How are "more accurate hands" an oversimplification?

I am aware of that. Does not change anything. The over simplifying of Masterpiece is not what I want from this line I've been collecting from the beginning. I want them to continue to have the squared off machine-like hands of the past. I'd like them to continue to be dripping with detail. Not blank smoothed off legs like Inferno.
Just my opinion. I'd prefer the Masterpiece line to be what it has been for the longest of time. And that ain't a direct copy of the cartoon.

Just for fun:
From TFTM.
(Different animators.)
Re: MP hands, I don't care either way. As long as they keep the "Hausi" style articulation/build.

No. It's definately a design choice.
See, I love the second image of Scream. Just that little bit more robotic. I just looks better to me.

I remember when UM was being designed, the big shots of Takara specifically reminded the design team ro keep the costs down. Costs trumps design choices.

I haven't been part of the MP Inferno conversation and haven't really given him a proper look. He seems to be at design odds with himself. You've got this nice detailed cab as a chest and then smooth blobs of arms and legs just pinned on.
From the pics the transformation looks like just laying him down and making the back of the truck with those cartoon arms and legs. On one side that disappoints me because I want complex and on the other side that's how the transformations looked in the cartoon.
The ladder fold is clever but Inferno just seems very awkward.

Some more in-package images come from site sponsor RobotKingdom, via Seibertronian Cyberpath, this time of Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-33 Inferno - front and rear of the box, with art and the showcase of accessories and features, plus some cartoon scene recreations and the diecast mini Optimus Prime. We also have confirmation of the alt-mode: he transforms into a Fuso T951. Check it out below!
