Legacy Evolution Dirge and Nemesis Leo Prime found at U.S. Retail

Posted by Bounti76 Jul 9, 2023 at 1:53pm CDT 74,524 views
Hello one and all! When the Dirge and Ramjet two pack came and went on Amazon a few years ago, many were frustrated that not only were they exclusive figures of well-known characters, but they were in limited quantities, and the aftermarket prices skyrocketed. Well, last year, we learned that Hasbro was planning on re-releasing Dirge in the mainline Legacy Evolution. The figure only had one change from the original, with yellow plastic for the wings, rather than the painted wings of the Amazon release.

In any case, the wait for that figure is over, as both Tuned Agent and Cyber Bishop have reported finding not only Dirge, but his wavemate Nemesis Leo Prime at U.S. retail! Both were found at U.S. GameStop stores (where new Transformer figures have been showing up with increasing regularity lately). Photo proof from Tuned Agent is included below.

Are any of you looking forward to these figures? You may want to check your local Game Stop if you're in the U.S. Let us know what you think below!

My only one is only open like 2 days a week for like 3 hours. But when I managed to make it, no transformers at all.

I used to work at a Gamestop from 2019-2021. We never carried any Transformers. To this day, when I go into my local Gamestops, I never see any. So maybe it's just a region thing?

More like up to the discretion of whoever runs any given store.

Just found out this morning one of the local GS stores had ROTB SS Arcee (her street date was 7/7 as well per GS) and someone sold her early last week. The employee that sold it was fired last night for breaking the street date and the store was hit with some kind of fine from GS corporate.

The same SS ROTB core Arcee that's been out for several months now?

GameStops in my area dont carry Transformers at all anymore. The one and only thing I ever got was Selects Artfire. It was brand new, cheaper than on Pulse.com, and right there in store before Pulse shipped theirs, so I got it.

Still, The one thing Target stores have been consistent about in my area are Voyagers (no other size classes mind you...), so I expect Dirge & Dark Leo to show up soon, even though neither is on my want list. I already got my wave 3 Legacy Core Dino's and Axelgrease from Amazon.

The Nemesis should arrive right around my anniversary (July 20th), then its just waiting for wave 4 pre-orders to go live.

I got my Axlegrease today, and she is pretty neat. I really like her colors, and the muscle car mode looks good, though I wish she had a spoiler.

She also looks good with RotB Smash Changer Scourge, and the Junk Squad is shaping up nicely

Most of the Generations re-packs going all the way back to Siege and Earthrise Astrotrain have been identical to their previous releases, but the recent wide release of Legacy Evolution's Voyager Class Dirge figure doesn't entirely continue this trend. While the overall deco is unchanged, there are two small differences for collectors to be aware of.

The most notable difference is found with the wings, though it may be noted that a quick internet search shows there was some awareness of this change already. The Earthrise release, seen below on the left, features painted plastic wings whereas the Legacy Evolution release, on the right, is molded as tan plastic. This creates a matte versus gloss finish difference that immediately jumps out when putting the two toys side-by-side.

The "knee" paint is also noticeably different in the newer release. Earthrise Dirge features very purple knees (or perhaps kneepads if you prefer), as seen on the left once again in the image below. Meanwhile, the Legacy Evolution version sports a much redder shade of paint, landing somewhere between purple and lilac.

And those two small changes are really it, at least as far as this Transformers toy collector can tell. For most collectors these are not practical differences and add no reason to keep two extremely similar Dirge toys on the shelf, but it's always fun to see some variation when the same toy gets released years after its first outing.

This won't remove any value of the original.
So for the hardcore collector, that's a good thing.

I know how Tarn could get a second Legacy figure from a different mold.

Make Glitch from the Studio Series Gamer Edition Bumblebee/Cliffjumper mold.

Pulse just charged for (the) Nemesis. Hopefully I'll have it in-hand in just a few days.

On the contrary, this sucks for hardcore collectors because now we have to buy a second Dirge to get all of the mold variations...

I wonder if Amazon will bump up their release date then, it currently says next week.

While I was re-arranging my Transformer shelves today I started thinking about the upcoming Shadow Striker and her (probable if not very, very likely) repaint/retool into Side Burn. If Prowl and X-Brawn get new toys, if they're not original moulds (obviously it would be better if they were, but if that's not an option), which existing figures would work as retools?
I remember there was a leaked product listing a while ago for "ROBO WILD RIDE" that some speculated was X-Brawn because "Wild Ride" is his Japanese name, but until we know more I still suspect that listing is just a Wildrider repaint, maybe his G2 colours for the Toxitron Collection.

While Prowl could potentially be a Sunstreaker or Sideswipe retool, I just don't see how any other figure can be used for X-Brawn.

That big massive, Mercedes SUV front end for a forearm can't be done from an existing mold.

I'd expect all 3 to be new molds, since they have some repaints pretty much built in. I'm sure the Shadow Striker pre-tool was just them tying to avoid the Super side Burn repaint in Hot Rod red and flames.

But for the other 2, the repaints are easy and right there.

There are of course also, these 2 color schemes for them, that would work nicely in their Walmart G2 line.
