New In Hand Images for Transformers Generations Platinum Dinobots

We had quite a few images of Grimlock and Slog, but now ???? Photo Vault on facebook have given us images of the rest of the team as well as some nice group shots. Dinobots Grimlock, Slog, Strafe (yes, they are keeping that name), Slug and Snarl can be seen below in their G1 deco, which is slightly different from the deco found in the SDCC set.

These look really nice, and, actually look like what actual dinobots would probably look like; epic dino's and a streamlined armored design that allows for actual movement in bot mode;

As much as I can praise these figures and love them (which I do), I still wish for a retail release of actual original dinobots, like how we got FoC Grimlock but no others, and I would gladly have bought all 5 in FoC style :BOT:

I've said it before, but just show me a pricetag that beats going out of my way for the 3P Dinobot groups and I'm in.

When did you say that? Also, I dont understand the question, the price tag of this set is as cheap as just 1 3p dinobot. Have fun spending 500$ on your dinos, I will just buy this at 100$ or less depending on the discount TRU gives.

Perhaps I said it on another board, so pardon me if that makes no sense. And that's basically what I meant is whether this will be cheaper than going in the 3P direction, cuz these look passable enough to me.

Yeah, it will be, I think this set will be ~$120, or at least similar in price to the sdcc set; dunno what that was, but this seems to be your best option if you like the look of them ;)^

william-james88 wrote:All great points! But just in case you wanted to know, they did make an Omega Supreme repaint for year of the Snake.

Yes - Amusingly I nearly edited the post to put G1 in to prevent pople thinking I meant The Energon derived Mould then I decided it didn't matter as it was implied by me mentioning Blaster & Perceptor in the previous sentence. - Guess I should have done.

I've been looking at things like the recent Trypticon, Blaster, Perceptor, Blitzwing, Astrotrain and the previous Asian Exclusive Sixshot and wondering what else would work - one of the things that appealed to me was the original Omega Supreme as Omega Sentinel colours.

I wonder why they decided to remould the Energon One rather than use G1 version - I guess whoever worked in the department at the time was someone who had a downer on G1 moulds.

The other reason I brought up the idea of G1 toys as Platinum releases is that the idea of Sky Lynx redone as a Purple Gryphon still amuses me. But he'd also work OK in darker tones as Hatchet too.

It looks like they don't often want to make the repaints new characters though unfortunately.

The price was confirmed, no need to wonder anymore :D . You can buy this for 109$ online (I think?). But you are better off waiting to get them locally so you dont have to pay shipping. So yeah, the price was confirmed at being a much much more affordable option than the 3p dinos. You prety much get 5 for the price of one, I know I am biting :)

Still considering getting these just to put the heads on my SDCC set. Still.

Maybe when these hit Canadian retail and I have the money I'll do something wasteful like that. I usually dislike the movie looks, but I really like these guys. Having them use the G1 heads these come with would be good.

As cool as they do look...the pictures make me less excited about it and rather more comfortable with giving this a pass. I think I'd rather have less spiky dinobots so I might collect some of the 3rd party ones...maybe.

Having the whole fruity Dino set, plus Leader Grimlock, I don't feel the need to doubledip. Also, I really liked the "Knights" theme for the AOE Dinobots so having the G1 heads on these bodies is kinda pointless for me. Seriously, they could have made an extensive remolds for each of these bots to give them a less squeletal and more classic look. Sure, it would mean greater cost, but still less expensive than designing new toys from scratch.

I can agree that the knights look was badass and worked really well with the original heads. Those really were good looking figures, all problems set aside :BOT:

It only made sense that after seeing the in hand images we would soon be getting this Platinum Dinobot set at retail. Fellow Seibertronian Down_Shift has found this set at Toysrus (it's an exclusive there)in Burlington, Canada for 200$ (about 150$ US). These should be making their way south pretty soon so keep your eyes peeled if this set interests you.
