Maybe some of you have see them in stores, but Hasbro has a line of Transformers toys aimed at people who want an affordable larger Transformer. This is the Titan Changer line under the Authentics umbrella and so far we have had G1 mainstays like Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, ect. But now, we have our first Beast Wars character too, Optimus Primal. We had the images of the bot mode but now we can see the alt mode and more importantly we see the Evergreen beast mode design they are basing this toy on thanks to images from The Entertainer website. While obviously aimed at families on a budget, I'd advise against knocking on these as they do the job fine for kids interested in larger figures and are easy to transform back and forth. I speak from experience as a dad of a four year old who plays with these toys. And it's cool to see Primal get that status of reliable sellers within the TF brand, appealing to younger kids (and most importantly their parents buying the toy). We have also put images of the others in the line to show how the proportions are shared across the line.

Interestingly enough, while Primal will be a big part of the ROTB toyline and there are ROTB Titan Changers coming, this particular toy is not from that line so that gorilla image is NOT of the gorilla mode from ROTB.

Skinny Primal is not too bad and that gorilla mode is solid at least.

Makes me want him.

I've never seen any of these in any stores before. Are people finding these in stores anywhere in America?

I've never bought any Authentics or Evergreen figures, but it's nice to see Optimus Primal represented in there, I'm happy that the end of Kingdom is not the end of new Beast Wars toys, and the art on the packaging is very nice.

Authentics were made for discount stores like Ollie's and 5 below. Unfortunately they've been stocking more main line stuff lately.

I am also unaware of the area where authentics are available (in the U.S.). They sell their size class on eBay (so much for being affordable). The only one I even consider is Wheeljack.

Would a tiny inexpensive Optimus Primal based off of the Kingdom mold interest you? Smol Monke anyone? Well, if that sounds fun, well we have some fun news for you. Below are images of the new Authentics toys released for 2023 in Taiwan. Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal and Bumblebee will be released at the Bravo size which is similar to core class, while a brand new larger Starscream along with a repacked Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will be available in Alpha class which is in between deluxe and voyager sized. For an idea of scale, you can check out the image of the boxes below. That Primal may be small and cheap but he does have a cute feature where his two guns can be used in his fists or as shoulder canons like in the cartoon. This is unrelated to the Rise of the Beasts film and serves more as a classic Optimus Primal made to be affordable for families shopping at places like Family Dollar. In Canada, these have been available at Canadian Tire.

It's funny how despite the whole point of Evergreen TFs being they can show up in ANY store with even the tiniest toy section, so many specific figures somehow end up being indigenous to just one chain, determined largely by country or even state/province.

Hope Primal comes Stateside, but if any Canadian Seibertronians want to trade for Authentics Arcee, just let me know and I'll find you one with the best paint job possible!

Really like Starscream, it's a better looking figure than the Bravo version with the flat cockpit. He really looks a lot like the control art, just needs some more colors.

Primal looks great, though the blue on his chest looks like it was done with a spray can, lots of over paint. I wonder if he's too big to stand next to the small Transmetal Primal released in Japan.

While I think it's weird this guy isn't seeing a Legacy release, I want him nonetheless. He'll look great next to my Core collection. I'm honestly hoping Hasbro keeps releasing characters in the Core class no matter the line, they're an excellent way to build up entire armies of figures when one can only afford the occasional larger figure.

This is one of the few authentics toys I can appreciate. Kids toys can be good, see! But one question, why does he have guns instead of swords? Thinking like a kid swords would be cooler because they are unique for tfs.

That's because his shoulder canons serves a dual purpose here. So no extra budget for the swords.

While the Authentics line is not covered heavily since it isn't part of any reveals and is not even meant for big box retailers, the Optimus Primal toy did interest fans since it works with the core class collection Hasbro has been setting up in the Generations lines. However, as you will see below, this is not a core class toy, size wise. It is between the core class and deluxe class, being almost as big as a Studio Series Bumblebee toy. We have two reviews below to give you a better look at the figure. We don't have more info regarding his availability since there is no set rule for where figures like these may end up or when they will show up in various markets.

From TF fan France who posted on Botposting.

Authentics bravo class Optimus Primal.
He's... actually pretty good. I expected this to be very hollow and weightless like the other ones from the same toyline, but no. It's the opposite.
He has a decent amount of articulation, NONE of the pieces have fallen off, he doesn't look very hollow except on his legs and a little on the arms, and he actually has weight.
The painting and sculpting are good.
The arms and legs can bend and because they're on a balljoint they can also swivel. The head can only look from side to side in robot mode and the gorilla head can only look up and down.
For the accessories he has two blasters which are stored on his back.
He unfortunately doesn't have his two swords.
I'd say it's a good Optimus Primal for those looking for cheap.

The hollow bits are less incongruous than I thought. The bot looks great, the gorilla looks great, and that transformation is quick and easy. If I ever see it at Canadian Tire, I'll pick him up for sure.

I know producing reprolabels for evergreen figures would kind of defeat the point pricewise, but this Primal's chest is like a blue canvas BEGGING to be embellished! Have toyhax ever done that for Authentics?

No sets for any Authentics toys so far.

Not even 3D printed filler pieces or upgrade kits exist for any and those seriously needs them. Sure, those would also defeat the point of Authentics, but some designs are really good and could deserves the upgrade.

Shame that because some figures like Barricade are really good but terribly painted. He'd really benefit from window and door decals.

The Authentics Titan Changer line is still trucking along. It offers a very affordable option for popular Transformers characters at a larger scale with easy transformations. Shockwave will be joining the ranks as we can see from this listing from Hasbro. While it is the evergreen design, it's basically G1 Shockwave and while the alt mode is meant to be like the Siege toy (kinda), G1 fans will see how easily you can bring the arms down and basically make him a lazer gun.

Below you will see photos showing the robot mode, alt mode and even the converting instructions, enjoy!

But that Shockwave "transformation"...

Re: New Stock Images for Leader Sized $20 Optimus Primal Toy (2187674)
Posted by cloudballoon on January 19th, 2025 @ 3:19pm CST
This is illogical. Shockwave would never do the "Trust Fall" and leave his fate to anyone.

But other than that hilarity (but par for the course of the Titan Changer line, so no surprise nor sad/angry about it), it's actually a really good looking Shockwave.

FInally, wow, the money saved for the box art recycling Siege's must've saved Hasbro a tidy sum!

Doesn't look like they bend, so I doubt it. This line isn't known for including articulation that isn't necessary for transformation.

But the upper legs are grey & lower legs are purple plastics. So there should be a joint there. Would be mighty stupid of Hasbro not to put ball joints at the knees rather than mushroom/pin joints.

Yes, each leg is two pieces in order to let the lower legs rotate at the "knee" for the transformation.

Ball joints aren't used in these "shampoo bottle" lines.

I see. That's too bad for articulation. Wouldn't add any cost to production to do so, I think, but I guess having mushroom joints at the knees help with the figure's stability.

Each and every bots of this line have ball joints. Even the Shockwave above, who have them in the shoulders. They just are not all over the figure.
