- He is slightly mistransformed, the chest portion with the headlights looks like it can rotate up to be more screen accurate.
- His window wings might be able to slide more centrally, it looks like they’re on sliders.
- His gun is actually based on his gun in the PS2/Wii game!

He honestly looks really good to me, at least for a to-scale SS figure to bulk up the movie 'Con ranks. It at least doesn't look as much as a string bean like the past deluxe (to me, that is.)
I'll definitely pick him up, always nice getting more car transformers.

I'm glad I did too, my first one broke after being transformed/combined a few times, the joint that allows the arms to swing outwards from vehicle mode just completely snapped inside

What a weird choice. There was a 360/PS3 version of the ROTF game that I'm certain sold better than the Wii/PS2 version, and Sideways appears in that like he was in the movie (licensed Audi car mode even), WITHOUT a giant arm cannon (I think he had a smaller gun "transform" onto his wrist). Seems like an odd thing to include, given how few people would get the reference.
Rest of the figure looks nice, though. Two-tone and even appears to have the silver stripes down the middle. Hard to tell if that's an Audi logo on the chest, of COURSE there's a shine RIGHT THERE, so hopefully this is actually licensed and we get a fully accurate vehicle mode (the car mode got more screen time than the bot, in this case
).

I will be cautiously optimistic of this actually being a Licensed 2008 Audi R8.
Even the original toy wasn't actually licensed, and we all know how restrictive VW and its associated brands (Porsche, Audi etc...i) have been with their licensing.
I think it will likely just be a somewhat R8 looking car without the Quattro rings.

Sideways’ CG model actually reuses several parts from Barricade, particularly in the legs.

And yet, the original ROTF Sideways mold was a completely different one from Barricade's Movie 1 mold.First-Aid wrote:EvasionModeBumblebee wrote:First-Aid wrote:MeGrimlock78 wrote:I am getting really strong Barricade vibes off of him...

Yep, I'm pleasently surprised that this one is a totally new mold too! Rumors were that it would be a Dino retool actually, but I think this turned out much better than if it was a retool of Dino.

I think it wouldn't have made much sense anyway for him to be a Dino retool, his CGI model has way more recognizable car parts than Dino, as it usually is with the designs from the first two movies. He doesn't require as much faking as Dino does.

Exactly, yeah. Now we just have to hope they saved some of the new tooling budget for DOTM Bumblebee! xD

So if this Sideways is screen-accurate, does that mean in car mode he can split in half long ways?
I mean, they did it with The Twins ice cream truck...

He may not be as complex or accurate to the movie, but I'm not really complaining cause I'm a massive sucker for those top heavy proportions. Seriously, it just looks so good to me.

Upon further review, I am still digging him. I love how the grill deforms to match his CG model. That might be my favorite part of the design.
I know this is more another topic, and I plan to post there, but I wanted to share these images of the Premium Series movie 1 Megatron from SS. The new wash and copper really did this thing justice. i love the retail release, but damn the premium series one brings it home!

Man, PF Megatron looks so good, I'd like to pick it up but $60 is pretty steep. We'll see!
One more note on Sideways, Sideways77 on TFW2005 found what appears to be molded faux tires on Sideways arm higher up than the ones directly attached to the hands - the faux and real tires can likely combine, not only achieving a CG accurate split tire look but also shortening the arms a little bit:

I managed to find ROTF Sideswipe for a reasonable price on Ebay recently, so I've bought one. I never disliked the DOTM Sideswipe as much as many others did, but the ROTF version does look a lot better so I'm looking forward to having him.
That recent Direct Line ad with Optimus Prime in it really makes me wish Studio Series does an Optimus in his Age of Extinction / The Last Knight design soon, preferably as a Leader instead of a Voyager, the original Voyager Optimus mould was always a bit too small and skinny for my liking. Of course I don't expect this to happen any time soon, it's just as likely that the next Studio Series Optimus will be the Rise of the Beasts design.

So, I made a post on Twitter saying I wished I had army-built the Shadow Raider and KSI sentry guys, and I got a reply from John Warden with an interesting little factoid about them:

Neat little thing that they actually were ordering the actual car paint to color match to in shop, I like that little detail
Glad to hear you like these guys. Fun fact: when I was doing the deco I actually ordered touch up paint for the actual vehicles these guys were based on to get that tone just right.

Sideways looks pretty good to me so far. The original RotF deluxe was never the strongest figure from that line IMO, so I look forward to seeing more of this guy.
It looks like there is also a double hinge within his forearm to allow his hand to collapse in and align with the faux tire. There also seem to be hinges on the outside of his biceps, maybe to allow some car panels to swing to the front of his arms?

Funnily enough, that did get referenced in a canceled Multipack:
