Studio Series 86 Commander Class Optimus Prime was released in Hong Kong recently to anyone who attended their show. While some fans got their hands on them, that also meant some resellers could make a pretty penny selling theirs to reviewers wanting a first look. And that's how we got the review below, from Prime vs Prime. We also have a slew of in hand images showing off scale and poseability from Nathan and Shane, who posted on the Botposting Facebook group.

Agreed. Even if it's not a portent of the TARGET: 2006 pianoformer getting an official toy, its regular appearances in these reviews make it feel like a recurring character in its own right. Legacy Baby-Grand?

Op raising it up to finish Megatron reminds me of a Toyfare Magazine fantasy battle where Palisades Dr. Teeth was about to use his keyboard to do the same to Dr. Mindbender.

While I'm on the fence about SS'86 Commander Optimus Prime in lot of ways, the last 2 pics just make me hope more than anything that we get another batch of Commander Ultra Magnus.

Man SS Prime looks cool but I just can't put my finger on why I don't love it. The colors? Looks really blocky I don't know because nothing off the top is bad, just don't love it like some of the other primes realeased.

The legs being full on cartoon accurate by removing all semblance of wheels definitely makes the toy look blocker than previous releases

This Commander Optimus is a budget MP-44.

It is pure perfection with a nice transformation and a perfect look all over. Plus, for once, HE'S IN THE RIGHT GENERATIONS SIZE.

Can't wait to have mine!

D-Max, your photo makes me wonder if they will re-release dead prime as part of the 40th anniversary. I think he might be the only version of the ER mold that wasn't re-released yet.

I passed on him originally because I really didn't care about trying to remake the dying scene, but now that we have a sort of sub line of the dead and dying, I would probably buy him if he got a re-release.

If you ever get Dead Prime, you can give his trailer to SG Optimus if you have it. That's what I did and I applied the Reprolabels to complete the look. It works perfectly. Toyhax used the Netflix Nemesis trailer, but I think the Dead trailer works better.

I'm putting this here since it's connected and I don't know where else it would go, it might be nothing but, TF:TM is no longer available on any streaming service that I can see. It used to be available for purchase off Vudu/Fandango home but not anymore. Usually when something like this happens it means a newer release is coming, perhaps we're getting a 40th anniversary release?

Welcome to the world of Streaming. They will take down anything at any time. Unless you have hard media, the odds are that ANYTHING you may like will disappear and you are not going to have choices. Already had issues with iTUnes/Apple regarding almost a dozen albums I purchased for download but they pulled.

I agree 100% ALWAYS purchase physical media when you can. However there are multiple layers to this. Thankfully, this seems to be the less invasive one for now. There are the times when an items become unavailable for purchase (but those who already purchased it still retain it, as seems to be the case with TF:TM see my VUDU screenshot, its still there for now). Then there are times when an item becomes unavailable, and even those who purchased it have it removed from their library.

Great news to all those wanting to complete their Dinobots collection, leader class Swoop has been found in the US. He is packed with leader class Springer and was found at Target, with this specific finding from North Carolina by Taureanstar.

He has also been released in Canada in a blink and you'll miss it release at Toysrus followed by a more standard release at Gamestop.

We also have a review for you below, to see all that this release entails (both the good and the bad). Enjoy!

Well, I think I am about to eat my hat.

Caught up on the Skybound comics, and I think I am now going to need SS86 Magnus. And of course he is nowhere to be seen anymore. And of course of course, I would prefer a yellow eyed version, but no luck on a leak there yet.

And I am starting to question if I am going to need to get the SS86 Constructicons.

I had to order Legacy Elita-1 so I would have a properly scaled Elita.

Almost ordered SS86 Arcee, but I am still happy with my T30 one, and neither Earthrise nor SS86 really look better/more comic accurate than her.

I am now torn on SS86 Prime too, cause he is more accurate to the comic, but I also think that, given how iconic the "Let's go on the offensive" Prime with Megatron arm now is, they would hopefully make either a version like this, or give SS86 Megatron the ability to donate an arm and Optimus to use it. Also, I will get the dramatic capture Prime that I could use, but again, accuracy/arm reuse.

smyths in Ireland have swoop up on their website as due to be out between the 22 and the 29th of August.

now sometimes a character pops up and it NEVER gets released but seeing as Snarl has just been reduced to €50 euro i think its fair bolted on that were getting him in the shops soon.

Holy ballz, that "reduced" price is the full price of a leader in Canada and USA. For how much a leader sell normally in Europe?

€65.99.

if ya wait a bit they usually drop the price. sandstorm for instance is €49.99 now and Blitzwing is €27.99 though the latter is fairly rare to go that low.

Nemisis dropped to €150 from €209 IIRC for the titan class.

I Dropped in today to have a look and theyve tidied up the shelve big time so i reckon the new stocks coming in this weekend.

i think theres a correlation between the price and what it costs to import it from the states

postage and tax are a right bastard. i had to fork out 83 euro to get a leader class slag recently, 34 quid of which was those charges.

on topic Smyths have updated their page to say SWOOP is now going on sale between the 5th and 12th of SEPT now.

TBH though it could turn up at anytime. i was in the jervis branch in dublin yesterday and theyre clearing out the shelves for new stock. i cant imagine they want to leave all that shelve space empty for long.

Thanks to a video, we now know that the early copies of Transformers Studio Series 86 Commander Class Optimus Prime have assembly issues. The heels are missassembled. The right and left heels have been switched and flipped upside down. You can see how it should look like compared to how it ends up looking like in the video below. The fact that both assembly methods result in the same symmetry makes it easy to see how this mistake came upon in the assembly. It is unknown how many copies have been affected with this missassembly.

That's confusing because since the G1 toy, most G1 style Optimusses have the rear lights as toes, not as heel. It's the opposite on the cartoon model and on the SS86. :-?

Switching topics ofr a bit, looking ahead to next years SS86 Constructicons. We wont see anything for a while, but we do know they are 2 deluxe for the arms, 2 voyager for the legs, and a CC Set for Long Haul & Hook.

Now , it doesn't take a 12th level intellect to deduce, they will likely be released later in a Gift set at some point. However, I didn't jump at the Legacy Stunticons Gift set (as pretty as it was) because I didn't think the toy deco was enough of a difference to buy them all over again. I am getting the G2 Legacy versions, because they are being released slowly over time.

At any rate however... I thought about something rather cool that TT did with MPG Raiden. They had an option to purchase the last member Kaen as an individual, or in a Gift set that contained spaces for the other 5 Trainbots, so you could have all 6 in their original packaging, in the box with all the extras!. Despite the toys themselves being a rather mixed bag, I thought the concept was neat...

Now, I seriously doubt Hasbro would do this but...what if, they released the CC offering (Long Haul and Hook) in an oversize giftset-style box, with spaces for the other 4 constructicons? I think it would be really cool, perhaps as a pulse exclusive or something? I realize retail shelf space is tough especially now. I'm shocked my daughter actually saw Magmatron at Target once! (of course she was the same one that found Motormaster, also only on one occasion, at that same Target 2 years ago) .

But instead of some fans/collectors feeling taken advantage of, once the inevitable Gift-Set is revealed, I think the partial-giftset idea is a nice compromise, and shows more goodwill towards the collectors.

No freaking way :HASBRO: would put a toy in an overly oversized box just to accomodate the others.

Retailers are picky enough as they are for the titan boxes and even the regular commander boxes may be too big, several retailer refusing to carry them due to shelf space concerns.

Still, I would see :TAKARATOMY: or a 3P making a giant-ass box that would be a direct nod to the G1 original gift set. They could sell the box as-is, maybe containing quality sticker sheets to give the Constructicons their G1 toy deco.

:-?

Just imagine how huge such a box would be! :HEADHURTS:

It would be smaller than the SS69 (RotF) Devastator Box, probably smaller than the MPG Raiden one as well. Probably similar in size to the Pulse Exclusive Legacy Menasor set. The OG Box formatting wouldn't work because those 6 were roughly the same size, but now you have 2 of the 6 members at 3 different sizes

The SS69 box was stupidly huge, but I think a SS86 Devastator box would be the same size if they keep the G1 layout. Also, the "formatting" as you say won't be the same, but similar enough. Beside, there's plenty of space in that design to accomodate vehicles of various sizes.

I don't see Hastak doing any sort of special packaging for the Constructicons; while anything is possible, that's super niche... The vast majority of people who want those figures aren't buying them to display in the box, no matter how retro or cool it looks.
Hell, I'm most likely buying a second set, but it's to have those six figures individually in bot modes, and in a diorama.

Why not go all the way and buy 3 sets to display the bots, vehicles, and the combined robot all at once?

Still, that would kinda be a waste because you'll then never transform them ever again after that. :-?
