One of the most recognizable characters from the TRANSFORMERS brand lore, SOUNDWAVE is making a retro-comeback for San Diego Comic-Con in honor of the brand's 25th Anniversary. Hasbro is re-releasing the original 1984 edition of the figure that will include four of the SOUNDWAVE character's cassettes, two of which have not been released since the 80's. The cassette characters include BUZZSAW, LASERBEAK, RATBAT and RAVAGE. The four figures fully convert between robot and cassette mode and fit into SOUNDWAVE when in cassette mode.

Nice, but I'll pass. No big loss, I have the TRU Soundwave and those cassettes, and have Ratbat coming from the Encore multi-pack. I wouldn't mind seeing some other, previously unreissued G1 molds come out as store exclusives.

Wierd that SW is coming out again when he was reissued in the states not too long ago.

Aside from the inclusion of Ratbat, that's pretty lame for a convention exclusive. It's not really an exclusive figure; just a reissue. They could have at least given him a new paint job or something.

No no no, you're missing the point.

Take a nostalgia fueled event, like a comic convention...provide an iconic character in an iconic toy...give him lots of stuff (tapes)...and people will LOVE IT.

Collectors don't have to groan about it, because they likely have it already in one form or another, but for everyone else...it's a hook back into the hobby.

Or at least it's a snack that makes people say...'Wow, I miss having Transformers...I wonder what's on the shelves now.'

I understand your logic there CP, but I have to say.

Couldn't that have been accomplished, while still giving the collector something he wants by using Soundblaster instead of Soundwave?

I'd be all over this if it were Soundblaster, but with just buying the TRU exclusive reissue from the Classics line only a couple years ago, I'm not all that interested in owning another one.

Thats a pretty nice exclusive. And the price isn't that bad either.

If I wasn't collecting the Encore cassettes I would be all over this.

No way.

Only hardcore TF fans know who Soundblaster is.

The general population likes and wants to see Soundwave.

Wow, with 4 tapes, that's a great price! Availability will be the problem, I'll bet. Might they sell them on HTS after the Con, as they did w/ Alternators Rodimus?

I have the TRU version, so I don't need this, but it's perversely tempting. Soundwave is just that cool.

sorry if this has been mentioned in the past but....what's with soundwave's tape compartment sticking out so much? i've noticed all the re-issues have this. i have the original toy and when closed, the tape door was flush with his chest but these days it sticks out what seems to be the width of the cassettes themselves.

have they made his body thinner in these re-issues so this was the only way to make the cassettes fit or is it another reason?

Bouncy X,

In Japanese G1 (post American G1), Soundwave and Broadcast (Blaster) killed each other and were rebuilt as Soundblaster and Twincast.

When Takara released the figures, they remolded the tape compartment on Soundblaster to fit more than one tape.

The TRU exclusive Soundwave and Comic-Con Soundwave just use the Soundblaster mold.

Other experts can go in deeper detail, but that's the barebones of it.

Hasbrotoyshop lists the SDCC exclusives on their website after the convention ends. Buy it online like Nemesis Prime last year.

I already laid out a lot of money on a set I got off Ebay that came with all his cassettes and himself from the 80s. I wouldn't mind getting this one just so I can have extras of some and possibly have the Ratbat with the painted cassette apps instead of the sticker one I own.

I really wish they would have used Rumble and Frenzy this time, instead of Lazerbeak and Ravage. The later two were used in the TRU reissue, and Hound came with a new mold for Ravage.

Still a release worth picking up when the page for it is up on HTS. I think I might even get it (though I bought the TRU release as well), and keep this one MISB like I did for Overload.

Yeah, I understand the logic about the TRU exclusive only being released a few years back but come on, $50 for FIVE FIGURES?

I have the TRU reissue and still might snag one of these if for no other reason than just the sheer nostalgia of 4 minions being commanded by Soundwave at once!

Cool news! I managed to pick up the last Reissue and don't care about the other tapes too much, so I'll pass, but this is great for those who are lucky enough to get one.
