Until canon proves otherwhise, I view the "monkey head with helmet" as a mid transformation thing, like its not supposed to be a fully transformed robot-mode head.

In canon, that monkey face is what’s under the mouthplate. We see it in the movie.

I got my DLX Sideswipe as well as my G2 Megatron, and both are so nice. sideswipe is super cool, and G2 Megatron might be my favorite non-transforming figure? Something about it is just so.... nice
