Spotlight Prowl & Wildman's variant cover for TRANSFORMERS Ongoing #6

Posted by First Gen Jan 29, 2010 at 1:49pm CST 20,636 views
Seibertron.com member minimus-minor has just posted new information about IDW Publishing's continuance of the Transformers saga, Transformers Ongoing #6.

A variant cover, done by artist Andrew Wildman, is now visible at IDW Editor Chris Ryall's blogspot, RyallTime. Seibertron.com reported earlier that Wildman would only be doing six covers for the series, so the number of covers we can expect from Andrew dwindling down. Andrew's variant art gives us a straight G1 representation of the characters portrayed in Ongoing, giving fans and collectors a reason to grab more than just one copy.

Also posted, is a cover for the next book in the SPOTLIGHT series: Prowl, done by artist EJ Su, bearing a striking resemblance to his Universe 2.0 figure.

Oh, foolish, foolish Wildman... doesn't he know that there's no way a Transformer would actually look like that? With all those boxy limbs and everything, how could they POSSIBLY fit into the shape of a vehicle? What does he think, we're still in 1984? Obviously we were too stupid back then to know what we do now about how a robot would look like, so why does he keep trying to force this outdated, old crap on the rest of us? Time to wake up, Wildman! Take a cue from the artwork INSIDE the book you just did the cover for and realize that there's no more room for the classic look anymore! This isn't a G1 book for chrissakes!

Oh wait... it is.

Alright! Come on people! As much as I love the way the TransFormers look in the movie. I am getting so sick of hearing people say, "There's no way a TransFormer would look like that." Really? We would know that? Don't get me wrong. I don't really care for the 80's TransFormers look at all, I'm not a G1'er, I like the movie look. But just saying, how the hell would we know what a robot from another planet look like?! Really people, stop saying that...so stupid.

Besides, the movies don't even transform consistently and most of the time they are missing parts off them or have parts added to them that aren't on the vehicles. Like brake coolers, engine cooler vents, Optimus Prime's semi sun visors etc..., this stuff appears and disappears though the whole movie. But that's mostly sloppy filmmaking, sigh.
