Anyone want to share the Amazon pre-order at least? Even if it's sold out we can still wish list it or have it in our Amazon browsing history. Nevermind, Death posted it in the preorder thread: https://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Stu?tag=seibertron07-20& ... 283&sr=8-1

The thing about Ultra Magnus that a lot of people don't realize is that he was a size-changer in the cartoon. Not as extreme as Megatron and Soundwave were, but when he transformed, he shrank when going from vehicle to robot mode. His truck cab was equal in size and shape to Optimus's, and his car carrier trailer was about the same size as Optimus's trailer; both of which were big enough to carry some of their smaller Autobot Car comrades. But in robot mode, the entirety of Ultra Magnus's combined cab-and-trailer robot mode was only a head taller than Optimus's cab-only robot mode.Emerje wrote:I guess I can see why they made Ultra Magnus so ridiculously oversized, but now I'm thinking the Dinobots are too small.![]()
So, it's a lose-lose situation when trying to make a toy of him: Either his vehicle mode ends up being too small in order to make his robot mode the right size, or his robot mode ends up being gargantuan (just like his original G1 toy) in order to make his vehicle mode big enough to accommodate Deluxe class Autobot Cars.

About making an SS86 Astrotrain that can change into a vehicle of the right size?
So that his... transport functions are movie accurate?

Evan has previously said that if they were to do a SS86 Astrotrain, it would likely just be a redeco of Siege Astrotrain, indicating that they care more about Astrotrain's robot mode scale instead (likely wanting to keep him and Blitzwing the same/similar height).-Kanrabat- wrote:Sabrblade wrote:So, it's a lose-lose situation when trying to make a toy of him: Either his vehicle mode ends up being too small in order to make his robot mode the right size, or his robot mode ends up being gargantuan (just like his original G1 toy) in order to make his vehicle mode big enough to accommodate Deluxe class Autobot Cars.

So you want a toy that can Transform into a bot the equivalent size of Megatron, but can form a space shuttle big enough for SS86 Devastator to fit in it as well as almost the entire Decepticon cast? Yeah...laws of physics called...quoting Scotty...

In a line that prides itself in bot scale, the form I'm going to display him in, I'd rather they stuck with that over a play feature. CC UM and Prime are now in their own scale that doesn't really fit with anything else.

I really want to do a four-pose diorama recreating the blast-off, transform, flip, and land-and-shoot. I can't justify buying four of these guys at this price point, and what am I going to do with three extra trailers? A single-figure release without the trailer would be amazing.

Hell yeah!
And to complete the set, a Megatron that is the normal size in bot mode, but he can transform into a gun that can be held normally by other Generations figure.
So, how to make such robots happen in real life?
Easy:

Sure, it does stick out from the torso more than it should. Probably twice as much...
But I still don't think it totally ruins the profile silhouette.
In terms of the scale, this Optimus is on point. He's supposed to be much larger than the vast majority of other Autobots, minus a few exceptions; Blaster and Springer come to mind. I can totally admit my prediction about SS86 Springer's size was wrong... I thought he would end up being much closer to this CC Prime.
I don't think the Dinobots are too small. In fact, this new Prime looks like he'll be close to Swoop's height, and that's good imo.
Now, Ultra Magnus is too big. Probably close to a couple inches too tall, and his shoulders are too broad. But it's all understandable-- making the bot mode smaller would've made the trailer shorter and narrower. And that would have been annoying if a CC version was still too small to adequately hold/transport other vehicles.
I just really hope Hastak has cooked with the SS86 Megatron figure.
My expectations were already high, but now seeing CC Prime, along with the Siege Megatron mold being completely worn-out...
This new version needs to be completely on point.

Yes backpack is a bit big but he's definitily an improvement over Earthrise Optimus.
And I considered that the ultimate Optimus that was possible for a mainline figure.
So, excellence, I do hope he's not a rubic's cube otherwise he will always get shot down in mid transformation.

Rumor is that plenty of these have been made knowing it's going to sell, but I wouldn't risk missing out on this one.
I'm betting this will get released as a couple different repainted exclusives before it's just straight-up repacked (if ever).
Even though it's Optimus Prime, repacking a $90 figure down the road instead of releasing a new one of a different character seems like a very questionable business decision.
I'd also bet that this figure is going to be heavily scalped, and lots of these could end up stuck on the aftermarket.

Hope people don't fall for buying them, Hasbro is going to be pumping this out regularly for the next 3 to 5 years and sporadically for the next 7 to 10. Anyone that wants one will have several opportunities to get one. Wouldn't surprise me if we see a second run of pre-orders within the next month.

It is guaranteed that this SS86 Optimus will be even overproduced.
Now, let's hope distribution is logical and 90% of the production don't end up in a single store for reasons.

Is releasing this every year for the next 3-5 years official word?
How do you know this?
I’m not doubting this could see a repack/rerelease, but as others have already mentioned, I’d think it would get repainted releases for a toy version, SG, Nemesis, and possibly a “dead” version sans trailer before this original was put out again…
Especially like I said because it’s a $90 figure. It would be one thing if this had a standard production run and the number of copies made was somewhat limited relative to the popularity of this character.
But if Hastak makes a ton available for this first run, I really could see its next releases being repaints.

I'm also counting on a 3P/4P "rocket pack" that's a thin piece of plastic that will clip over or into the existing backpack, which will be "L" shaped with the two gray/silver dome/bell rocket exhausts on the underside. Since this figure doesn't have any major hollow gaps to fill (minus screw holes), I could also see getting a thin piece that just cleans-up the look of the backpack in general. From what I can see these original hands look great, but I wouldn't doubt getting some little random blaster so Roller can be armed with his own weapon without having to borrow Prime's. Who knows, maybe even attachments that are tools/repair equipment.
I'm predicting that the first repaint is a Nemesis version; I'll never spend another $90 on a toy version since that's going to look very similar in the grand scheme of repaint options. I'll be much more likely to go for a Nemesis or SG variant.
It will also be interesting to see if they release any version sans trailer that includes all of the main accessories, at a lower cost.
I mean that trailer is big... Even stood-up as the repair bay that's 7" wide and close to 10" tall. Although neither mode will be super easy to display.
Some collectors probably scoff at prices, but there have to be more people than not who will only end up with 1, maybe 2 versions of this figure, whether it's a full $90+ package or not.
Posted by -Kanrabat- on July 18th, 2024 @ 1:13pm CDT
Especially if there's dome differences in accessories.

Really don't have to look much further than Siege Jetfire from 2019 getting reissued year after year for proof. This is Optimus Prime, it's completely unthinkable that they aren't going to milk his regular release for years to come. Wouldn't surprise me if Rodimus Prime got a new run soon, too.

Indeed it is.
But at least up north, Rodimus is like Cybertron Metroplex. A hard sell even on clearance for a long time.
All of them other commanders seems to sell out fast.
The record holder is Ultra Magnus. It never got the chance to even go on sale.

Do they? I'm not seeing him at the big stores like BBTS, EE, TFSource and Pulse or Amazon, the kinds of places they would want him to be available at for an anniversary, especially to go with Prime. And the eBay prices aren't great, most new ones sell above MSRP, rarely do new ones sell below that.
