Studio Series ROTB News with Arcee Review and New Images of Freezer

Posted by william-james88 Feb 17, 2023 at 1:30am CST 74,060 views
We have some news regarding the new Rise of the Beasts core class figures coming out in the Studio Series line. Below you will find a video review of Arcee. Also, both her and Freezer are out in Hong Kong, which gives us a look at Freezer's packaging. On it we can see its CG model. We also see that he has the Museum as a backdrop giving us a clue as to when in the film we will see this character. That image was posted on Twitter but we also have more in hand images from Pixelmaster.

But it still requires the extra pieces, does it not? The official instructions involve 28 steps, starting with Shockwave in robot mode with his extra pieces attached, and ending with him in said 'submarine' mode, all pieces attached. That's the only set of instructions that come with the figure.

If we stop at step 20, we get the "submarine" which is a sneaky way of including a nod to the original figure's gun mode, but it's still not the finished alt mode, thus is not official. Besides, using said inverted "submarine" mode, the handle for the "gun" mode is way too small. I know that logic also eliminates his robot mode without the extra pieces, but since we did see that in the Netflix show, it is official.

Sabrblade's explanation of this figure being a remnant of the PoTP line does make a lot of sense and gives good reason for why Shockwave got this treatment.

But you DO have to admit that this "complete" step 20 was clearly intended and was designed specifically this way. You can't call that an "half-assed fan mode." You could say the same about MP Starscream 3.0 and MP Skyfire Gerwalk modes.

It's like Siege/Kingdom Ultra Magnus. The truck can be on its own without the parts, even if it looks weird with those arms hanging out.

Considering how PotP and Siege handled Leaders, to say Shockwave's independent "submarine" mode is incomplete feels inaccurate tee-bee-aytch. The only one that seems "incomplete" without the armour parts would be Ultra Magnus since we're used to the big armoured up form being the main guy. (I guess the same could apply to the Cybertron OP that was retooled from Magnus.)

I’m happy that we’ve got an SS86 Sunstreaker incoming, but more corrections are needed. Netflix Soundwave needs an 86 release with less greebled forearms and the gray parts replaced with white.

I was holding onto hope that 2024 would be better than 2023 for Bayverse stuff since we only have a single core repaint in the mainline for the entireity of this year, and hopefully we'll see more Bayverse at the end of 2024, but that lineup is super disappointing to see.

Like, I could tolerate 86 when we were still getting a handul of Bay figures a year (like 2022) but now between 86 and the WFC games for some reason, we're down to getting a single core figure a year when we still have a big part of the Bay roster to get through.

It's difficult to say because it didn't pan out when I said it recently for 2023, but man, I have to hope there's more Bay stuff at the end of 2024.

Everything you said.

I really hate the direction of Studio Series right now.

Let's hope they will not mess this Megs up. Forget the "fat" AoE leader. Take cues from the stellar voyager and iron out the kinks.

I hate to rain on the parade because I'd like it for it to be TLK as well, but consensus from those who found the listings is that it's 86 despite being labeled as being from Bumblebee.

The disappointment levels i feel are off the charts. Why do we need a G1 Megatron in SS.

Yeah, definitely more than a half-assed fan mode, sure. I'll even say that it's splitting hairs, but if the submarine mode was intended official, they would have stopped with the instructions there, and gave a separate set for the extra kibble. :-D

Forgot to mention that it's the same thing with Commander Rodimus Prime. The car can be on its own as "Beefy Hot Rod."

Also, Your instructions argument hold no ground because Shockwave could not stand on his own without the "super armor."

Just going to point out that the lack of gun modes has nothing to do with with gun laws. Hasbro owns Nerf, they know the toy gun laws, they could make a transforming laser gun if they wanted to, they've even made Transformers branded Nerf (and Nerf-like) guns. The problem is most likely that they don't want to take any chances with backlash from a kid bringing their Transformer to school and getting expelled. We live in a time when kids are getting kicked out of American schools for pointing finger guns at each other or drawing pictures of guns in class. A kid that draws a picture of someone being shot is deemed mentally unstable and in need of lots of counseling and therapy before they shoot up the school. That's just the society we live in now. Sure, a kid could also bring a Nerf gun to school that actually fires projectiles, but I'm guessing they're already told not to bring toy guns to school, but an innocent robot toy that the kid throws into their backpack forgetting what it turns into? A little more problematic for Hasbro. That's what I think anyway, but it's definitely not because of gun laws.

Did we already forget MP Megs exist or-

Ever tried importing either version?

I imported both, along with G1 Megatron, piece of cake

Same. My MP-5 Megatron I got from HLJ had an orange rubber stopper in the barrel, my Encore Megatron (also from HLJ) had an orange cap over the barrel that was glued on the inside, but still popped right off (though the crusty glue is still inside. And my MP-36 Megatron that I think came from AmiAmi had nothing. None of the three had issues coming in.

That mold is done and over with. Hasbro dev team said their plans for the next Soundwave is a new mold at the same size as Voyager Blaster.

What are the chances the new SS mystery Rumble is the WFC/FOC version?

-Kanrabat- wrote:Also, Your instructions argument hold no ground because Shockwave could not stand on his own without the "super armor."
But he does. And as I pointed out before, his robot mode is exempt because it appears in the WFC series, making it an official representation. However, his alt mode does not, so we're left to rely on the instructions as official guidance.

As for why do we need gun Megatron in SS? Because whether it's liked or not by some, SS86 exists and it keeps producing the most screen-accurate versions of G1 figures, and in G1 on screen Megatron was a gun.

It's understandable why it is frowned upon these days, hence my high interest in a foreign release exclusive to circumvent the restrictions in the US. As for the MPs being adequate substitutes, are they in scale? MP-05 isn't. MP-36? If so, then fine. That can be the Megatron to represent him from the animated film. Still shorthands the SS86 line itself, but at least there's a figure for him.

Now onto commander Ultra Magnus.

1st, let me say that I disagree with MP-22 needing an update. It's a pretty darn good figure to this day. Can it be updated? Probably. The engineering has advanced since its release. But it's not necessary.

2nd, I also don't think CC Magnus can be done without the white Prime, for budget reasons as well as my belief that if there will be a CC Magnus it will be a retool for either another Prime with a (better) trailer, or the next iteration of Powermaster Prime.

Having said that, I think Magnus should be done as a single figure, because that would be truly accurate.

Well, I don't think SS86 needs to be a slave to "screen accuracy". So far, all of the SS86 toys are more "Generations" than screen accurate, with all the details and extra bits like backpacks. So having a UM with a better white Prime and a way better truck mode would be awesome.

For me, The Siege mold is absolutely perfect because it's "Cybertronian" and it just works. However, the Kingdom retool is horrendous. There is not enough difference between the bots of Siege and Kingdom, while the vehicle feels grossly incomplete. However, that mold works surprisingly well for SHATTERED GLASS UM. Having that derpy vehicle for the Evil Magnus just works IMO.

As for Megs, I think he has been completely "written off" his gun mode since years and years. Takara could make Gun Megs, but if Hasbro ever do it again since that surprise Reveal The Shield Legends, I'd be very, VERY surprised.

Kingdom Magnus works just fine for me, and looks enough like UM from the movie so it works. I've no intention of pay $100 for yet another version that may or may not be more accurate. I didn't get into this line to repeat buy the same character at even higher prices because of whatever reasons.

I get that this was basically a release for the WCF Netflix show and they could possibly make a better version for Commander Class, I just rather have known ahead of time so I could have saved the $50 on Kingdom and just put it towards this new version. If indeed it turns out to be so much better.

I only recently got into the line because of how good the bots looked in Siege/ER compared to past versions of the early 2Ks or earlier. They finally looked like decent representations of the characters seen on screen, and some of them carried over to Kingdom with a fee great Highlights such as Blaster for example. To think that in a few years they'll redo them in the next class up for a more accurate look and to soak extra cash out of me for something I already have is asinine IMO.

The kicker, you can't wait for that better version because it may never come for the bot you're wanting it for, and in the mean time if you don't buy the existing one you'll end up paying through the nose later on when no longer at retail.

Well we all have our preferences. I think Kingdom Magnus is great and represents Magnus on my movie shelf right now. If or when the SS86 figure comes out, I will buy it and replace this Magnus with it, and this one will move to my comics shelf.

I just hope he will be available easy enough, I never saw Motormaster and Rodimus in stores.

My only beef with Kingdom Magnus is that there's a section of the trailer missing for some bizarre reason, exposing the egregious "truck arms". The cherry on top is the two missing guns. At least the SG version compensate with a sword, a fan/sucker thing, and an extra head.

Man this thread has really devolved. If you want to keep discussing the SS86 things can you please move to the SS86 thread here: studio-series-86-discussion-t116421.php

Over Christmas break I revisited my paint work on SS-49 to get him up to par with my later Bumblebee repaints, this mold is still my favorite deluxe class figure! (I think DOTM is my favorite of this mold, but they're all good).

I do hope to see a new TLK Bumblebee in the future that uses the engineering upgrades from this figure, especially with the chest. Not sure if a reshell would work or not since none of the alt mode parts could be reused because of how different the shaping and detail is on that version of the Camaro.

We're not 100% sure if the rerelease of TLK Bee as SS-25 counts as definitive or not, but since the rerelease of High Octane Bee as SS-79 is not considered definitive by Hasbro and a new version is still on the table, it's possible we could get a new TLK Bee too.

Snarl's initial release is Wave 2, the end of the year listing for him is him getting repacked alongside Primal's first release.

Also regarding the Shockwave alt mode discourse, in addition to the instructions thing, he was also the only Siege Leader to not advertise their unarmored alt mode on the box or in stock photos as well, which does seem to add to the idea that it was excluded intentionally.

I think the one thing bothering me about this is the weird choice to make the head and legs a fairly noticeable gold plastic. I assume it has good reasons, probably to do with rubbing and scuffing and such, but it stands out weirdly against the other dinobots.
