Cool bit about the Minicons - each sprue has a piece on it that can be combined with pieces from other Minicons, and if you buy the whole wave of them you can make a new bot out of said pieces. Pretty neat concept! The transformations also really remind me of the data discs from FoC, just not automatic/spring-loaded like those.

Sideswipe looks amazing and Jazz looks good too. While I liked Deployers Fracture before, I really like him a whole lot more now after seeing his alt mode. I don't care for Deployers Drift at all but since he comes with Jetstorm I'll probably pick him up. I love Minicons and Legion figures so I'll get all of them. One step Thunderhoof looks awesome and I can't wait for him to get a Warrior class figure. The rest don't really interest me in any real way. A really good showing for RID.

While Seibertron has provided a bunch of photos of the newly announced Robots in Disguise figures, showcased at the US Toy Fair, Hasbro has released the official pictures.

These give us an up close look at the new minicons and the clear armour bits they come with. It is interesting to note that these clear plastic pieces are packaged in a way that imitates the minicon's fraction symbol. The ones shaped as disks are for Drift while the ones shapes like arrow heads (torpedos) are for Fracture.

Scott notes the following regarding what he saw at the show:

Well, forget the one-step. I'll take that Legion Fixit.

Sideswipe still looks cool, but something about Jazz just doesn't feel right. I'll probably still get him because, screw it, it's fucking Jazz.

So many of these promo shots are basically repeats of each other...

The Mini-Cons are a bit of a lot of things: the Data Discs, the Construct-Bot dinosaurs, even a bit of BMOG. I wonder if there's a specific bot you make after getting them all, or if it's just an open-ended make whatever.

I actually really love these minicons, especially the autobot ones. But I really dont like the Deployers themselves. That drift alt mode looks horrendous. I would have preferred a non transforming drift is I was going to get something this bad. Also, it is so odd how the one step fracture has a much better alt mode than the more expensive Deployer Fracture.

Lastly, I thought Jazz looked weird too, and then I realized he had eyes.

That Sideswipe looks awesome though!

Anybody else getting an Energon Omnicon/Terrorcon vibe from these minicons? These in my opinion fill a collecting niche that the Construct-bots Dinobot Riders and before that Botshots filled. Something inexpensive to waste my money on  Any pricing on them yet? They look cute, but they'll certainly cost enough that I'll hesitate to buy them. It's also neat that the transparent armor pieces will combine into their own robot.

4.99$ each packed individually, all the pricing can be found here. I actually think its a fair price since its half a data disk set for half the price.

I was completely on-board with Fracture, until I looked closer at the little launcher. If I can't hide that thing somewhere in robot mode that's a deal breaker.

I hope it gets a Warrior class figure, because I like this design best out of the new Decepticons revealed so far. >:oP

On Ben Yee's facebook page, you can see some videos that show how the deployers work. It's a bit lackluster but the individua minicon transformation is great!

More than hunderoof? I hope that guys gets a warrior treatment and that when the time comes, the rake transforms into his antlers instead of being replaced by them.

We've seen the official images, we've seen the first look Hasbro area coverage, we have a Seibertron.com gallery of the recent reveals, and now we have for you a video which gives a demonstration of the the new Robots in Disguise Deployer toys. Deployers Drift and Fracture interact with their minicons by propelling them out and the video gives you an idea of what the action feature looks like.

I might go ahead and pick up the Mini-Cons, as they're a little different and quite cool looking. The Deployers don't appeal to me in the slightest and the new play-style is beyond weak.

As for the rest of the Robots in Disguise line, I'm still trying to figure out what all the different figure types are. I get the impression Hasbro are falling back into the habit of over-saturating their own brand with numerous play options. I feel like I'm going to have to buy them all before I can figure out which one I actually want.

It's not as new as you think: FoC Soundwave and Blaster have the same gimmick, especially with the Mini-Cons being more like their little buddies.

I've got a few questions about this Rid toy.

What is the bigger non minicon toy's name? is it Fracture or Airazor?

How big is the non minicon toy? Deluxe class or Voyager Class?

What is HasTak calling the vechicle mode for the bigger non minicon toy? Please don't say deployer as that's the gimmick.

It's not the same gimmick, though. Not entirely. The internal storage and automatic transformation of Rewind, Frenzy and company is what made them special to me. These Mini-Con are more like spring-launched projectiles that happen to transform. I don't know whether to view them as poor functioning weapons or broken Bot Shots.

I view them as a de-evolution of Gen. Rumble, Frenzy and co.: all transform into the same shape and can be shot out, they just don't have a springloaded transformation.

That's fair, but as a de-evolution I just can't help but think 'what's the point'? I suppose you could accuse me of over thinking it, but once you fire off a projectile you generally don't interact with it much. Otherwise what's the point of it being a projectile?

You might be asking nicely, but it doesn't change the fact that these things are officially called Minicon Deployers. here's the official Hasbro description of what they are called:

TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE MINI-CON DEPLOYERS
(Ages 6 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $19.99/Available: Fall 2015)
DEPLOYERS figures team with exclusive deployable MINI-CON figures to demolish enemies! Pick a side and choose a warrior: AUTOBOT DRIFT or DECEPTICON FRACTURE. Each DEPLOYERS figure comes with one MINI-CON figure that it can deploy into battle! DEPLOYERS figures convert from robot to vehicle in less than 10 steps. Their MINI-CON teammates convert in just one. AUTOBOT DRIFT figure works with all buzzsaw-shaped MINI-CON figures. DECEPTICON FRACTURE figure works with all torpedo-shaped MINI-CON figures. Collect and deploy! Take the action to your mobile device.
Download the TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE app to your digital device, then scan the shield to unlock a character or weapons or more!

Also, they arent voyager size, they are more like the old Beast Wars Mega size, so just a tad bit bigger than a deluxe.

Anybody hear the rumor that Jazz is a heavy retool of Prime Deluxe Bumblebee? Personally I hope it's a retool of Hot Shot since that version of the mold had the gears in the neck fixed so the head would lay flat. Sideswipe looks really good but that Ultimate Prime looks exactly like the Hyperchange figure. I can maybe see one or two new parts.

I feel like an idiot typing this down because this really shouldnt bother me, but it does. Thunderhoof has a very interesting design and it's obvious that the designers made the vehicle mode have a rake in the front so that it would become the antlers in robot mode. But this one step changer doesnt care, it just has both and on top of one another. I wouldnt have cared if the rake looked more like antlers or the antlers looked more like a rake but having both cancels eachout and results in a dumb mess:

Image

I hate seeing designs just wasted like this. I am really hoping for a warrior class in wave two.

I'm more looking forward to Steeljaw since he's gonna take it upon himself to step up as leader and build up an army by recruiting/forcing the other Cons to join with him. Whereas the other Cons seem to be just upon to random mischief or personal gain, he's the one seeing the bigger picture and trying to plan out a long term strategy, as though he sees how just going about and doing whatever he wants like the other Cons appear to be doing is pointless and ineffective.

I think Cobotron and Shajaki were more referring to just the character design and possibility for a toy.

I think Cobotron and Shajaki were more referring to just the character design and possibility for a toy.
Ya, the whole stag thing ices the cake for me. In fact thats the first I've seen of his alt mode. He's a tractor? Pppphhhhhhh, AWESOME! I'm down with that mischief.

I would hope that some day someone does a green and yellow repaint, of old Johny boy there.

Personally I hope it's a retool of Hot Shot since that version of the mold had the gears in the neck fixed so the head would lay flat. Sideswipe looks really good but that Ultimate Prime looks exactly like the Hyperchange figure. I can maybe see one or two new parts.

I'm not seeing it.

Not seeing what? He's referring to these two toys by the way:

Whoops, I should have clarified. I meant I'm not seeing Jazz as a retool of PRID Bumblebee. I compared the two and I don't see much in the way of similarities.

Look at the arms and shoulders. They're identical to Bumblebee's. Jazz also has that flap behind his head. It kinda makes sense they would re-use the mold since it has to be a simplified toy.

The shoulders are similar, but definitely not identical. The head flap is completely different in both shape AND function between Jazz and Bumblebee. Bee's is a rounded "L" shape that his head sits on, with the middle of the grille sitting behind his head. It moves 180 degrees for transformation. Meanwhile, Jazz's is most likely a regular L shaped piece, with the part sitting behind his head becoming a wedge in the hood of the car (a common Jazz trait). It only rotates 90 degrees. The arms on Jazz form the front fender and grille of the car mode instead of the sides, and they clearly lack the rigid gearing that kept Bee's arms sitting low, instead having a thick moving connection between the shoulders and torso. On top of that, every single part of Jazz is shaped and sculpted differently from those on Bumblebee. They don't share any identifiable parts that I can see, and the only similar elements are the shoulder wheel hubs, the door wings, and the roof of the car on the back. That last trait is extremely common and not limited to just Prime Bumblebee's toys. These are two completely different molds.

Although many of us are coming to terms with it and have deduced as such, the guy in charge of the Transformers brand has just confirmed that this toy line as a whole is not collector oriented. We will not be getting more complicated transformers from the Robots in disguise line. The article is a bit long so I will just quote the main line:

One of the challenges we had with Transformers over the last five years, six years is the product line was getting more and more challenging. We had one product line for everybody and the feedback we were getting back from parents and kids is that it was too difficult.

So that's when we went to this "three pillar" strategy where we have both a story and product that is appropriate for the three age groups.

The three age groups are preschool (2-4), young children (5-9), and older children and collectors (10-).

So, Rescue Bots, Robots in Disguise and Generations, in that order. That also explains a bit the main medium used: TV shows vs. comics.
