Transformers Legacy Velocitron Line Now In Symths Toys

Posted by ZeroWolf Jul 27, 2022 at 7:51am CDT 31,444 views
Greetings Seibertronians!

While the Velocitron line is Walmart exclusive in the US, here in the UK, it looks like Symths will be carrying the line, at retail at least.

This comes to us via fellow Seibertron user, CyclonusG1, who also shared proof in the way of Velocitron 500 Voyager Class Override!

They also say that so far the only stock Symths seem to have received is Override, Voyager Class Hauler and Deluxe Class Cosmos.

So UK Transformers fans, you ready to start hunting? Or are you giving this line a large swerve? Chime in with your thoughts below!

Don't forgot to share pictures of your latest hauls in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

Are there solid cases of just Cosmos, then? That would be welcome news!

Yes, we received solid cases of each figure. However, depending on where you are that might be different. Some retailers might have just ordered case assortments rather than just individual figures

I don't agree with that, but we can agree to disagree. It's complicated, it's governed by legal agreements none of us will ever see, and we can only speculate on the impacts like if these considerations factor into product decisions like non-movie movie characters.

I have a feeling it will be a fun discussion in a different time and place. :)

Probably, but while we're talking about it I just want to point out that we have proof that modern figures are still made under Paramount's license. Look no further than the legal information on Crossover Ultimate X-Spanse.

X-Spanse.JPG

As heavily altered as that figure is it's still a SS Jetfire retool and still requires a Dreamworks copyright. Of course it also has Disney and Marvel copyrights and the very obvious Lockheed Martin one. And people wondered why that figure was so expensive.

I'm more surprised they haven't shown up in Asia yet.

I don't think that's saying what I think you're saying. DreamWorks is the licensee for Lockheed Martin, which is the licensor. All that text says is that the Transformers movie producers have rights to use the Blackbird, it doesn't say anything about Hasbro's licensing relationship with DreamWorks. I mean, presumably someone's getting paid, but who knows how.

I feel like Hasbro would have just bypassed Dreamworks all together and gotten the license straight from Lockheed Martin in that case. The fact that they still needed to keep legal info on the box for Dreamworks tells me they have some say in the use of the figures and their designs even when they're being used in another company's toy. I do take back what I said earlier about Paramount, though. Looking at some Studio Series boxes and brushing up on movie production info I realized a made a mistake in saying Paramount had right to the figures. Paramount is just the distributor for the films and nothing more. Dreamworks produced the first movies and they appear to have kept the design rights for those films (though Hasbro was on the production team, but not as a studio), but the rest of the movies were primarily produced by Hasbro Films/Allspark Pictures/Entertainment One, all (obviously) owned by Hasbro. So I mostly take back what I said about Hasbro not being able to use movie designs and characters outside of movie lines except for the first two movies, that was outdated information. And thinking about it, we already have a movie design that's crossed that boundary fully and without the name needing to be change for legal reasons like my previous Megatron example, Authentics Barricade.

Now that's a new mold I'd like to see on Velocitron (to pull things back on topic...).

At with the Cartoon Network rights item discussed in the Legacy thread, I still don't believe "character designs" are protected material, but that's just my opinion. As for the presumed sublicense of Lockheed via DreamWorks, I'm not sure that translates into a "say" or direct payments, but those are possible. My basic assumption is that Hasbro needs, and has, the general authority to keep making movie toys in perpetuity without having to relicense from the film's producers, but that's just an assumption. It's probably defined explicitly in the contract.

Stumbling across a Cosmos figure in stores seems about the only hope for getting one. They sold out almost instantly on Pulse, and nobody else has them either. They may have underestimated the demand on this one...

At least in Canada, pre-orders are still up at Walmart.ca

That's how I got most of my TR and ER figures, with the exception of the Coneheads. I just happened to find them at the Wal-Mart I worked at, and usually they were the only copies, so I managed to snag them. I don't work there anymore, so hopefully I'll get lucky and find him either at Target or Wal-Mart. I've been luckier with Legacy and SS stuff when it comes to preorders thanks to Amazon and Pulse, but Cosmos was definitely a hot item for sure.

Can we expect the rest of the Minibots in the now-apparent Legacy trilogy? We still have at least 9 to go:

Beachcomber
Seaspray
Powerglide
Windcharger
Brawn
Gears
Outback
Tailgate
Swerve

I'm probably forgetting a few as well. I think Powerglide is the most likely while Outback the least likely.

In a Q&A from SDCC, we learned that there are plans to eventually get to the rest of the Minibots. We’re probably just going to have to be patient, though, just like with the SS86 Dinobots and Legacy Insecticons. It’s going to take a few years to get everyone done.

I hope Powerglide is next, if not Gears/Swerve. PotP Beachcomber is good enough for now, as are Brawn/Outback and Windcharger/Tailgate, even if the scale of those T30/Prime Wars figures is a little off now.

Yes, I assume they'll be LESS motivated to do figures like Brawn, Beachcomber, Seaspray and other minis, just because they did them for earlier (but not too distant) lines like PotP and TR. TR Seaspray particularly was excellent as a Legends size figure.

And he's being left on the shelves by those who have the previous cosmos... Well at least in my case.

Hopefully with the amount of people that have the previous cosmos that don't want this version should make it easier to get gor those that do.

Wouldn't be surprised if smyths doesnt stock black Scourge if they are already reducing legacy g2 prime.

A lot of the people in the US that don't want them will buy them anyway and sell them on eBay for 3x the price and probably get it. [-(

Smyths will be stocking Scourge, we've just not got him yet. Generally Transformers start to be discounted within 3 months of release in order to clear space for the next wave of stock as stores just don't have the space to have multiple waves still on shelves

What's the liklihood of the rest of the line coming to symths?

We have internal listings for the entire line so far so unless we have a siege wave 2 situation (which never showed up at all), then we should get the entire lot

The Velocitron figures aren’t even out yet at U.S. Walmarts. It’s way too early to panic.

Comment by william-james88 Jul 28, 2022
There are lots of fears amongst fans regarding possible missing out on Cosmos. As of now, the toys is out of preorders on the US Walmart website and Pulse. Add to that the fact that he is shortpacked in the deluxe case and it's easy to see how panic could ensure. But it seems Hasbro has an answer to that. We have confirmation from Smith's toys that the deluxe cases they have received have only cosmos packed. We've seen this before with many other deluxes like TR Mindwipe, which end up putting a lot more product on the market and it's a practice Hasbro uses now and again. And it's not just Cosmos getting a solid box but Override and Hauler as well. It's impossible to know if Walmart US will receive those same solid cases but the good news is we know it's a current distribution option from Hasbro for fulfilling orders. And regardless of what ultimately happens, there being solid cases adds to the global supply removing the rarity of said figure which keeps secondary market prices down once the initial rush is over.

Here is what the retailer told us directly:

Yes, we received solid cases of each figure (Cosmos, Override and Hauler). However, depending on where you are that might be different. Some retailers might have just ordered case assortments rather than just individual figures

Also, since this figure is out in UK now, Prime vs Prime got his hands on it and sent us a message asking us to post his review, so here it is:
