Actually, since I'm one of the few people in the world who've actually transformed one of these Transformers with "automorph technology", let me elaborate that it's actually a cool little feature. Yeah, it's essentially the same type of "technology" as the original Beast Wars and Machine Wars basics (what's the fan name for those again? flipformers?). But it's a little different because it's more complex than any prior Transformer toy that shares a similar feature. On Starscream, the whole chest and shoulders mechanism is part of this "automorph technology" which I believe, if I recall correctly (diablien???), happens between the following two photographs that I took of diablien's Starscream prototype:

TF's like Nitro Convoy only had the one spring loaded part that assisted transformation, so Auto-morphing, if it is in different spots on the body, is a step up from that.
So what's new about Automorphing is some figures will have it occurring in more than one place? Still sounds like an old gimmick dressed up as something new to me, just like planet keys being the new mini-cons.

so in simpler words, automorph technology is a complex way of unfolding automatically, right?

whoopie-do.
It's about what I expect from Hasbro, a flashy name for something very un-flashy.

I like the idea but the name Automorphing sucks. They might as well have called it Automorphing Power Rangers technology. They should just call it somthing else.

Seriously ... what the heck are you guys complaining for? Stop being such negative Nancies. This is ridiculous! This "new" or "renamed" feature doesn't make the Voyager class Transformer any more or less complex than they normally are. Actually, I had diablien transform the figure for me because I was concerned about causing damage to the figure. I think there were at least 15 steps involved with transforming this figure from robot mode to vehicle mode. The "automorph" feature was actually pretty slick on the figure. I wish you guys would just stop bitching about everything that gets named, created, leaked, displayed, etc. It seems like no matter what Hasbro or Takara does, the fans complain. How disheartening and depressing!

Very true, but have you you ever stopped to question why? New Transformers lines have come and gone but on a whole there have been a large enough proportion of fans singing Hasbro and Takaras praises for the new line to give the impression the fans will get behind it. In fact Galaxy Force had one of the warmest receptions of any other line when we first images of the toys. Maybe these toys and this movie simply look like crap, maybe they're not bothered about how complex the figures are is the end result looks like a pile of trash, maybe they're less willing to overlook the recycled ideas and gimmicks because their not getting an attractive toy line in return?
'Negative nancies' or 'ninnies' is a terribly derogatory term used by half-wits like Don Murphy to put down and silence those that might raise a valid complaint about something he has a vested interest in promoting. Right now I see very little difference between the two of you. It's everyones right to complain and criticise, especially when it is something the feel passionately about, in fact I seem to remember you doing that yourself not so long ago?

I agree with Ryan. We need to stop whining. I can't say I haven't. (I I remember saying elsewhere I'm not a big fan of Ratchet's deco, if that counts.) It's just I think its been way more than a bit much for a while now. It also seems to happen every toy line.
So frigging what if they're calling the gimmicks for the movie toys "Automorph technology"? Hasbro's been doing this ever since Headmasters (if not before that), haven't they? Wait.....you're not gonna start retro-bashing the Headmasters just because of the mini-con like gimmick, are ya? I hope not, because as blocky as I feel the ones I had were, those are the ones I wish I still have but don't. (That's why I've been wanting to see them brought back ever since Armada.)
Edit: I'm kinda bummed that it seems to be down now. I'd like to form my own opinion without it being tainted by everyone's whining please.

First off, the term "negative nancy" isn't a "terribly derogatory" term. It's a statement about people who are always complaining. Calling people "little whiny bitches" or "depressing dushbag" or a "bloody complaining wanker" is derogatory and are terms that I would never use except to demonstrate that "negative nancy" is not derogatory.
Second, please don't compare me to Don Murphy.
Third, I'm tired of people complaining about every single fucking thing in the fandom. It's getting old.
I feel like everywhere I turn, someone is complaining about something. There's someone complaining about Classic Ramjet's face in one thread, a gimmick about the new movie figures in another thread, someone bitching about not liking the artwork in one of the latest Transformers comics and somebody's bitching about how expensive MP3 Soundwave and iPod Prime are. It seems like no matter what news gets posted ... someone is bitching about something. I'm tired of people bitching at everything so I'm saying something.
Let me ask you, AK ... what do you like about the Transformers right now? What do you honestly, really love, like, desire about the Transformers right now? I haven't read you writing anything positive about the Transformers really, except for the KISS line which you and I are in the minority on, which makes me start to wonder why you're participating on Transformers sites if there's nothing that you're enjoying (so it seems). I like having you around but it seems like you're torturing yourself if there's nothing you're enjoying in the hobby really.
If you don't like anything that's coming out about the Transformers and all you have to do is complain about the Transformers, it seems like there are more positive ways to spend your time? Maybe you don't realize how much you are complaining about the Transformers.
I guess that's what I'm trying to shine a light on. I think people are complaining about every single little thing and they don't realize how much they're complaining. It's ridiculous in my opinion.

Thanks for agreeing! I'm not saying people shouldn't complain or express their opinion. But this thread is one of those things that I think is stupid to complain about. It's turned into a whole thread of people complaining about something they haven't even tried or seen yet for themselves yet somehow they feel like typing senseless messages complaining about something they've had zero experience with. If this thread isn't the perfect example of people complaining just to complain, then I don't know what is. I'm simply tired of it. Yeah, I have a lot of things to complain about, but I don't complain about everything and I certainly bite my lips on a few things because it's simply not worth my time to complain about. My time is more valuable than that. I'd like to think that the people who never post anything positive and are always posting something negative in almost every post have something better to do with their time than post like Eeyore is their hero. Blustery day? Screw that. Go outside and play in the mud. Have fun. Make due with what you have, not what you don't have. Your glass is half full, not half empty. It's all about perception. Perception is reality. For the people who are posting negative comments, there are more efficient ways to express your opinion than simply complaining like Eeyore.

I guess the length of time that I've spent as a fan who has been giving back to the community for 11 years helps me put things in perspective.
I remember when I started the Trans-Forum fanzine newsletter way back in 1996, four years before SEIBERTRON.com was a twinkle in my eyes, how uncertain the hobby was at that time. I remember when there were only 20 - 25 figures released per year, instead of 100 - 125 figures. I remember when there were NO cartoons on the air. I remember when we were without Transformers comic books for almost 8 years. I remember when all we had were Action Masters and Micromasters for a year. I remember what it was like to buy Transformers BEFORE the Internet. I remember what it was like before we found out about exclusive Transformers overseas. I remember what it was like before we found out there was going to be a major motion picture. I remember what it was like when G1 ended in the States. I remember what it was like when the G2 comics were canceled in 1995. Hell, I remember what it felt like to not go to the comic book store for 3 months in 1990 and to walk into the comic book store to buy issues 78, 79 and 80 and to find out that issue 80 was the last issue. How heartbreaking! I remember when Beast Wars was first released and the Autobots and Decepticons were no more.
I remember a lot of crappy things that fans should've really complained about. Maybe that's what made my skin a little thicker during these trying times with the movie just about to be released in 5 months. Maybe I have a greater appreciation for everything that's going on because of everything I've been through as a fan for the past 23 years. Maybe I don't complain about things that I don't have control over because I have better ways to spend my time. Sure, I express my opinion here and there but it seems like fans are complaining just to complain. Maybe they think it's the "cool thing to do" or maybe they just like hopping on the bandwagon and "being like everyone else".
Screw it. You're glass is half full folks. Let's start thinking positively. There's ways to say, hey that feature isn't the greatest but whatever without sounding like an ass.

Or maybe they actually have their own opinion based on THEIR passion for Transformers.
We're all fans, but we all have our own preferences in TF's. Some may be grateful to even have TF's and will accept anything released regardless of how crap it is, while others will look at figures like the Masterpiece line, or the BT line, and decide that this is the benchmark of good TF's and something like Classics Mini-cons are a let down because of that benchmark.
I will agree that SOME fans complain for the sake of complaining, but I feel they're a minority. The majority of fans simply have their own tastes, they know what they like, they know what they hate. Look around, we have a large community here, a lot of opinions are going to be shared, that's not jumping on a bandwagon, it's simply having something in common with your fellow TF fan.

RYAN. STEVE.
Both of you need to take a chill pill.
Now I know there has been an unusual amount of negativity towards the movie and the toys/mechandise. I put a lot of this down to the fact that when the movie project began Mr. Bay came to us and asked for fan input, which as far as things have been seen has been thrown back in our faces. This alone will create quite a lot of repressed negative emotion for the fandon as seen in a lot of movie related threads not just in Seibertron.com, but on other TF fansights.
Yes people have been going overboard about this. Yes there have been days when TFs looked like they were down and out in the post GEN-2 days. Yes as a fan comunity we have had some hard ships. If you think it was bad it the US the UK demise of the Marvel run comic and closure were a lot worse. I have been a Trans fan since 84 and have also been through all you have listed and beleive me when I say the UK has a long way to go for Transformers to be of the same notoriatey that it enjoys in the States.
We should be thankfull that TFs are the big thing at the moment and look to be around for a long time to come.
As for this toppic it is at best a new variation on an old idear.
As for your remark I don't know about the US but in the UK nancy is a shortened slang term for a Gay man,(nancy boy) that originated in the 70s so while in the US no one would find this offencive please remember you have members from dozens of countrys from around the would and what might not offend you may be very offencive to someone from another country.
As a closing statement I would like to add. EVERYONE lighten up this is a great hobby. Try to look more for the positives YES there is always going to be negatives but there is always something better coming round the corner.

I ain't got the space to quote everything you said, but HOLELY QFT, Boss. All the complaining is getting real tired. I mean, yeah everyone's got an opinion, I get it. You can say you hate 'til you're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, who gives a crap. This is what we're gettin', deal with it. Don't like it, don't friggin' buy it. It just seems with everything new we see, no matter how good or bad, the same cast of characters try and blast it to the stone age. I wonder to if they're complaining to be in with the shrinking crowd of devout haters out there, determined to see this fail so they can say "Look, told ya so!". BAH! And believe me, I was there during the bad times as well. TF's were on there death-bed, yeah that sucked, especially after the way both G1 and G2 went out. With a whimper, not a bang. And this is definately not bad-times for the TFs, especially cuz a few negative fan boys say so.
On the Automorph Gimmick, I'm up in the air. Definately cool on paper, but could be a liabilty to the toy's life span. Especially if the parts involved are fragile. I like to futz with my TFs every now and again, and I don't want to be afraid of busting it apart when I do so. How frail did it feel to you, Seibs? I do plan on buying a couple of each. For my personal collection, and some for my child-on-the-way(I will take away the firing missles til he/she is older.) Just hope it does't ruin the toy's durability.
