Transformers Nominated for 2017 National Toys Hall of Fame

Posted by Va'al Sep 13, 2017 at 5:50am CDT 15,036 views
You may remember how Transformers in 2016 was not admitted to the National Toy Hall of Fame, losing to the swing, D&D and Little People (see story here) - but the brand is actually back in the running for 2017, along with other 11 finalists such as Clue, the Magic 8 Ball, Matchbox Cars, My Little Pony, the paper airplane, Sand, and more. Check out all the finalists here: http://www.toyhalloffame.org/2017-finalists.

The following 12 toys are finalists for 2017 induction into The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame. Only two or three will take their honored places in the hall this year when they are announced at a ceremony at The Strong on Thursday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m.

Transformers News: Re: Transformers Nominated for 2016 National Toys Hall of Fame

Hasbro, Inc. introduced Transformers, a toy line of action figures that change their shapes, in the mid-1980s. They marketed Transformers with an elaborate back story supported by a Marvel comic book series, a cartoon television series, animated movies, electronic games, consumer goods, and even its own cereal. A continuing series of blockbuster films (with the latest installment released in June 2017) has kept Transformers in the public eye.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

You know, I wouldn't mind too much if we lost to MLP.

Sand on the other hand...

Hopefully if they win, TFs will get a better exhibit at the Museum of Play. Last I checked, all they had was a G1 Prime, Hot Spot, and Topspin; and some Rescue Bots.

I don't see how they aren't in already. I know I may have some bias as a fan, but 1 animated theatrical movie, 5 live action movies, numerous comic books & animated series going back to the mid 80s....what more does a franchise have to do to get into a HOF?

If Transformers loses to sand this year, there must be a lot of voters that love going to the beach...

Last time I checked sand was a messy natural resource, not a toy, but whatever :-?

This just in: Next year's list of nominations has been leaked. It will include Rainbow Brite, dirt, a puddle, Zoids, a stick and a hoop, just a stick, just a hoop, your parent's shoes you'd try on when you were little, mud, a piece of blank printer paper, a gentle breeze, aaaaand Transformers. Again.

(Only kidding, please don't take that seriously. Just making fun :-P )

Remember how Transformers has been nominated, once again, for the National Toys Hall of Fame? Well, once again in 2017, the transforming robot franchise that has been around since at least the 80s has not made it into confirmation - this year, losing to paper airplanes, Clue (another Hasbro property, in case anyone is keeping tabs) and the Wiffle Ball. We've reported a sizeable extract of the full USA Today piece below, but you can read the whole article with more images and an explanation of the winners right here!

Maybe next year Transformers will have a chance? Or will we see the predictions made in our discussion come true?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The National Toy Hall of Fame Class of 2017 are paper airplanes, the board game Clue and the Wiffle Ball.

The new group of toys were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in New York and now have a permanent place alongside previous honorees including the dollhouse, jump rope and Radio Flyer wagon.

The hall located inside The Strong museum in Rochester announced the Class of 2017 Thursday morning.

The whodunit game Clue, where players also must name the crime scene and murder weapon, continues to sell millions of copies each year since being patented by a British couple during World War II. Clue is produced by Parker Brothers.

"Clue has also had its own movie, been featured in numerous television shows and books and remains an icon of pop culture," said curator Nicolas Ricketts, who added the game has spun off travel, junior and advanced versions, as well as collectors and themed editions.

The annual inductees are chosen on the advice of historians and educators following a process that begins with nominations from the public. To make the hall of fame, toys must have inspired creative play across generations. Historic and modern versions of the winners are displayed in the hall.

This year’s finalists were: the board games Risk and Clue, the Magic 8 Ball, Matchbox cars, My Little Pony, the paper airplane, PEZ candy dispenser, play food, sand, Transformers, the card game Uno and Wiffle ball.

I did it like THIS, I did it like THAT...

played lots of Wiffleball myself as a kid, but sorry Beastie Boys Paul Revere always gets stuck in my head when I read about it...

Yeah at this point the "Toy" hall of fame is about as silly and pointless as any other.
