It's such a thing we take for granted, the ability to transform. But that first time...everyone is nervous their first time. It never goes the way you expect. Beast Machines focused on it to an extent, but that wasn't in the heat of battle. This scene makes total sense to me and it's humorous enough to entertain the kids. IF I'm not mistaken this is the first time we actually hear them referred to as "cogs", taking a page from TF: Prime's book.

This is something I've seen a lot of people mention many times in many places. Why is humor considered "for kids"? Don't adult like to laugh too? All adult cartoons are bad sitcoms full of alleged "humor", so it would seem to be the case.First-Aid wrote:and it's humorous enough to entertain the kids.

Just wait. The movie will come out we'll find out he's voicing Starscream, Hot Rod, Shockwave, Soundwave, Grimlock, and about seven other side characters.twitchybristles wrote:Definitely looking forward to this. (Also thanking the Allspark that so far no one is voiced by Chris Pratt, lol.)

Keeping kids laughing is more important because they generally have a horrible ability to stay focused on something. Laughing for children is equated psychologically with something fun because for the most part that is what kids want. Adults...well, we can laugh at something but it isn't necessarily going to be fun. We also have a better ability to focus and tend to look for things more than just fun. There are thousands of pages here in this very forum about what is supposed to be fun and enjoyable- collecting something we love- yet there is whining, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and name calling. Adults look for things to be more complex. Kids...not so much so making them laugh keeps them having fun and resets that "focus" button because they think something just as fun might be coming.
As for the cog, I totally forgot about that because I am old as dirt.

But we are geeks. We're not normal adults because we refused to grow up, refused to conform to what society has deemed appropriate for adults. We like fun, dagnabbit.First-Aid wrote:Adults...well, we can laugh at something but it isn't necessarily going to be fun. We have Inside Out 2 from Disney and Despicable me 4 from Universal and both have been strong right out of the gate, with Inside Out 2 on its way to become the highest grossing animated (looking) film in history, and inside out 2 being on par with previous opening in its own franchise, showing that it has yet to reach franchise fatigue. None of these films were events, their advantage was simply that they were family oriented films of well known current brands/characters/franchises. They are also helped by their release schedule, where school is out and theatre chains show movies all through the week during the day, creating an easy air conditioned outing for families and daycares/daycamps.
Now, I mention all this just to show that in times where Hollywood is unsure what movies can be successes, big Animated films seem to be the way to go. And the next big animated film is none other than Transformers One, which is getting mentioned during analyses of the current box office landscape (an example of such time can be seen in the Youtube video below). Like with Inside Out and Despicable Me, Transformers is a well known brand that is still current and well known by kids and families (unlike, say, Garfield). The continued success of the Despicable Me / Minions franchise also proves that humor can be very marketable to those same groups, which was an element of the first Transformers One trailer heavily criticized by older fans online. All these points show that Paramount and Hasbro may have read the market correctly when choosing to go the animated route for their next big Transformers film.
Another point to consider is that both Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me are out concurrently and both are making money, even though they attract the same market. This proves that there is enough interest (and wealth) from families that two animated films can prosper and one won't take business from the other (at least not to a significant degree). That point is extremely important for Transformers One since it will be "competing" with the Wild Robot on its second week-end at the box office.
The biggest difference between Transformers One and Inside Out / Despicable Me, however, is the season it's releasing. By being in the fall, when school begins, there are no family outings during week-days and week-ends become busier for families. To take full advantage of the shifting movie market, the film should have released in August, as no other animated movie opens that month and it could have taken advantage of summer vacation.
So, to recap, what works in it's favor when looking at the current box office landscape is:
- targeting families (the most successful movie market of 2024) with animation and humor
- being a well known current franchise
What might work against it:
- release date during school year
We'll see how much the box office for Transformers One differs from Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 when September rolls around. It is currently slated for a September 20 release date in the US and other markets, though it is not opening everywhere on the globe concurrently.

A couple of weeks ago when my wife and I were having date night, we looked to see if there was a movie worth seeing and it was just inside out 2 (we wanted to watch that with the kids not on date night). Does the fall have such a dearth of movies?
It would be a lot like now. Aside from the Wild Robot, which I addressed in the article, you'd have had Beetlegeuse Beetlegeuse two weeks before and Joker two weeks later, but that one is an R rated film. There's also Wolfs with Clooney and Pitt in there but that's an Apple streaming film being put on the big screen and those have never been popular. And then the only other big movie is Venom a month later.

Ugh, I wanna watch it again already. What a movie. Straight in as my fave of the 21st century TF movies. Brings the backstory and deep lore to life, has fun with it and puts on a show with real stakes, big emotions, and easter eggs galore. I need it on Blu-ray immediately cheers

I can't wait for everyone to see it. I really think and hope this can be something that unites all fans of this franchise.

The trailers don’t do this justice. Rich in character & emotion with a deep reverence for the lore, it tells the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron, tragically transforming once from brothers to enemies. Josh Cooley directed this animated film to perfection, down to the last comedic and action beat, all backed by an epic score & an excellent voice cast. One of the genuine surprises of the year for me

Engaging story, stunning visuals, legit laughs, AND some tear-jerking gravity? Come on. The best Transformers theatrical experience I’ve had. Massive W. I’ve long thought the Transformers lore was goofy - this movie slapped me in the face and told me to sit down and listen. was locked in on everything regarding the Primes, Cybertron, and exactly how this world works. made me want to become a diehard fan. Keegan-Michael Key steals the show as Bumblebee. multiple legitimate laugh out loud moments from him. ScarJo and Hemsworth are welcomed surges of charisma as well, and Jon Hamm crushed as Sentinel Prime

Rodimus Prime wrote:Yeah by the looks of it they're rushing the story a bit. I was hoping they wouldn't cram everything into one movie and save Megatron's full turn until the sequel. But I guess they thought a Prime vs. Megs fight was obligatory.

The pre-war story on Cybertron could fit in multiple movies, but I understand why they made the decision to make it like this.
While the Transformers franchise is overall doing well, making movies and counting on sequels before the current one is released and gauging the reaction to it, has hurted The Last Knight and to a certain extent, Rise of The Beasts.

Paramount has released two clips, one for Brazil and one for Taiwan. The one for Taiwan is a trailer showing lots of new shots of Megatron (in his final form) fighting Optimus. The clip for Brazil is an uninterrupted sequence of the Iacon race. In it we see a lot fo cameos including Brawn, Red Alert, Ratchet, Arcee and Ironhide.
Enjoy!

And they're poorer for it. The show was different, yes, but it's also good if you stick with it.
Going by this YT Playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... puNa1deWjV) quite a few of them got millions of views. But as long as the toy sales are meeting Hasbro's target, it's a success? (I don't know though. Did Hasbro make/lose money on Cyberverse? It got 4 seasons so can't be bad?)
I personally found the series a fun watch - better than RID'15 - I just don't like (not hating though) some of the designs, but it also brought Tarn to the mainstream and one of the best Volcanicus/Dinobots designs so mad credits to the series.
I'm ever an optimist. Even when a movie or series are legit "bad" (and there are many) it still carry the franchise forward. So as long as I see there are new/upcoming TF media to keep the franchise alive & relevant and the figures keep on coming, I'm happy even if some of them are not for me (I'm still on my 3rd attempt to read through IDW, but urgh it's tough for me).
