More sloppy paint apps. Saves me a bunch of cash for a figure I'd otherwise want quite a lot. Had the G1 back in the day. This looks almost as bad as Ruckus as far as the paintwork. More high res shots needed to confirm though.

The paint apps are pretty damn sloppy. And much like ruckus a lot of his alt mode is paint instead of colored plastic so it's probably going to scratch off in no time.

A consequence of painting separated eyes on a visor: they're denied their beauty sleep

We can blame that on the mold layout for CW Deluxes. A lot of parts are the same plastic color due to being on the same tree i.e. you can't change the color of one part without changing everything else. And the more paint apps, the bigger the chance of blemishes.

He is. The list so far is:

1. Needlenose with Sunbeam and Zputty aka Zigzag
2. Grabuge aka Ruckus
3. Spinister with Singe and Hairsplitter (I suspect "Hairsplitter" to be changed)

With that, the order of the rest can be easily predicted:

4. Windsweeper
5. Impactor
6. Decepticon Bludgeon + Mystery Deluxe

:EDIT: I was right: Hairsplitter is now called Shrute.

Yeah, the club has to work around gang molding, so sometimes they have a challenge in trying to mirror a given G1 character... but I think they nailed this one. Lavish paint apps and tampos for all of the 4.0 series — way more than Hasbro — really help overcome molding issues.

Mine looks just flat perfect right down to the face. Crisp paint and tampos. It really evokes the original — an obscure figure and character that I had and loved back in the day. (Color scheme was awesome.) I'm glad someone finally gave this guy a nod and a redux.

Then of course the Marvel UK appearances and team-ups there provide a synergy that makes this years' set exceptional... right over the top. Solid concept and excellent execution.

While I'm sad a few of you have had paint issues... I'm flying high. Super pleased and champing at the bit for 4.4 to post.

And a really, really curved visor at that!

I think maybe they could've mitigated it a bit with a different eye shape. Adams here has smaller eyes with some space separating them from the helmet, and looks considerably less derpish as a result.

Eye shape might have helped. Adams certainly looks fine. The main thing was that whoever did the actual application (remember, FunPub's mock-ups weren't like the final product) decided they needed to fill that entire space, which was clearly never the intention.

Just making the eyes smaller was all they needed....

Just got mine in. It seems the paint rub on the tailfin rotation joint comes pre-applied. Yay!!!

The paint used on this reminds me of my Universe Ironhide and Prowl. I think that this guy's paint job is just going to turn to shit in a short amount of time.

Wouldn't this have worked out better if they had molded it in pink and painted the legs blue instead of molding in blue and painting pink? There are less parts in the legs that NEED to be blue that would also have rubbing than there are parts that NEED to be pink that also have rubbing.

It looks good enough but I just worry about the longevity of the paint.

I'd wager their choices are dictated by what kind of plastics which parts are made of. (I'm sure you have noticed how some toys have softer plastic on pointy bits or ball joints to prevent breakage.)

Softer plastics won't take paint... and have a more limited number of dyes they will accept. It can really paint them in a corner trying to do repaints.

And absolutely none of that has any relevance with changing the layout as I suggested on this particular figure. It's why I mentioned it. They molded all the pieces that need to be pink in the same blue as the lower legs and painted them pink. Since it's all the same type of plastic, they could've switched the plastic colors and then painted the now pink lower legs blue instead of painting the entire upper body and vehicle mode back end pink. That would've used less paint and wouldn't have put paint on as many pieces that rub or inside any joints. The legs can be fully painted as already seen on UW Blades and the twins and how most of the lower legs are painted white on Blades and red on the twins.

The only thing my proposed plastic color switch would've changed were the forearms which are technically the wrong color anyway. It would've made pink forearms instead of blue and they still could've painted the missiles purple. But seeing as to how the forearms "should" be purple and not blue or pink, it doesn't matter what color they are anyway as they're getting that purple color from the missiles and not the forearms. Well, the rotor mount/butt flap would've been changed from blue to pink too but seeing as to how they painted the knee pads pink and they surround the blue rotor mount piece in alt mode anyway, it would've looked better with that piece being pink.

On top of that, they already had the proper color dye as they used it for the hips, thighs, shoulder balls, thumb joint and the combiner peg. So theoretically, all they had to do was use that same color on the standard plastic as they did on the stronger plastic for those other parts. I don't know if they could do that as this is now talking about two different types of plastic and using the same color treatment for both types but I'd imagine that they could've done it.

It's just that what the club did for Spinister just doesn't make sense to me when looking at the other versions of this mold and how they accomplished the colors on the ones that needed to be painted in those same areas as Spinister. I'm just glad that they didn't forget the top layer of foam on this one like they did for Ramjet.

The swords being a tight fit into the hands seems to be common with the mold itself, as both my Hasbro and Takara Starscreams have the same tight grip as Ramjet.

While waiting for the Seibertron gallery of the Transformers Club's Spinister, fellow Seibertronian Chuckdawg1999 has a video review for us. Spinister is a repaint of the Combiner Wars Alpha Bravo mold and is the 3rd figure for Thunder Mayhem to be released behind Grabuge (Ruckus) and Needlenose. You can also read the bio of this character here. Before we get to the review, here are some words from the bio's writer, Protoman:

Did a lot of fan wank writing for this one, mentioning his brief Dreamwave Armada comics appearance, his obscure Generations toy 2-pack and more. Nice to finally update a G1 character with a toy that does him justice.

The Generations Spinister referred to above is this figure.

Now onto the review!

I'm getting a little frustrated with FunPub at the moment. I haven't gotten Ramjet yet and I'm keep leaving messages on the TCC website but no one is responding in the last week.
