They aren't really much for vents though, it's not like they've put a grate over them like they would have in the real world. It's pretty obvious they were sculpted with a dual purpose in mind for when combined.

I'm more than fine with just turning Mixmaster around in vehicle mode.

Has anyone seen closeup photos of TT Menasor's head? Are the horns black, or that awful gray?

And I've been blind: among the new parts, UW Mixmaster now has a cab instead of the engine!

And with that, Takara officially CRUSHES it with Unite Warriors Devastator. Seriously, I don't think there is anything you can say about the Hasbro version at this point that's a clear advantage over the Takara version (besides price, obviously).

It's not so much a new cab as it is paint on pre-existing detail. Takara put Silver on the "Engine" to bring attention to the pseudo-grill already on the mold.

I was saying it since we first saw Combiner Wars Mixmaster in detail: The detailing is there to make him work in either direction in vehicle mode. It's just that Takara is the only one putting paint on the detail to make it apparent.

Ah... so it keeps the vent detailing in the back. Cheaters. [-(

Not to poo poo anyone's ideas, but turning Mixmaster around would also put the dual axles in the "front" of the vehicle. Compromises abound, I guess... :-B

But because Im not into stand alone figures, ill be sticking with my Hercules and yellow Giant that scale properly. I still say mixmasters alt mode is a disgrace. Somebody needs to get fired for that decision.

If you want to get technical, I would say they actually do scale. Think about it: construction vehicals are bigger than regular vehicals. Hence, the Constructicons being voyagers makes sense when you realize that Motormaster, a semi truck, is a voyager, and semi trucks and construction vehicals are approximately (ish) the same size.

In your face, X!

Using vehicles as your scale example is not the way to go, especially on this series. You have fighter jets the size of sportscars, Firetrucks the size of Commercial Passenger Planes, and Tanks the size of Ambulances.

The thing is, the characters go off of robot scale more. Especially compared to the G1 cartoon/comics. While Scramble City teams always had a big guy and 4 normal sized guys (Normal sized being the standard for most Autobots; Decepticons tended to be hefty fellas at the beginning of the series), the Constructicons have always been the same height evenly throughout the team. And they weren't small dudes in the cartoon. When the animation was right, they stood the same height as Seekers and just under the height of Megs, Soundwave, Shockwave, etc.

Unfortunately, making the Constructicons scale in robot mode with other character's robot modes, makes Devastator a very large fellow.

And we go back to mass shifting and all is right in the world

But if we do compare the actual scale of a Caterpillar vehichle like Longhaul over a military or civilian vehicle, the Constructicons do tower over all others. That and perhaps agains the never been released Raiden team.

Back to my old argument, though it can be really crazy with all sorts of sizes for TF figures like a Goldilocks porridge, I too would want some sanity imposed but for Devastator? He just fit right.

The real problem in all of this scale talk isn't that Devastator's too big. It's that Superion, Menasor, Ultra Prime, Galvatronus, Optimus Maximus, Bruticus, Sky Reign, and Victorion are all too SMALL. ;)

Once again, Sabr nails it. But we can't get ALL of the combiners at Devastator's scale. It wouldn't be financially feasible for Hasbro to put out nothing but Voyager class figures for a year or two. I appreciate that Devastator is set apart from the "Scramble City" crowd with his size. He's large and in charge as the first combiner to hit the scene in 1984. He deserves to be a bigger bot than the rest of the lot.

Hmmm... All this demand for a smaller Devastator makes me wonder if we'll see a company down the road make a knock-off of the Constructicons that are smaller scaled to be the same height as the other teams in combined mode.

I don't see that happening since both Giant and Hercules both fulfilled the need for a Supreme Class-sized Devastator made of six Deluxe-sized figures (as opposed to a Titan class-sized one made of us six Voyager-sized figures) quite a while ago, and I can't see yet a third 3rd-party Devastator being any cheaper than either of those two.

Yep, this. 20 years from now I fully expect Leader class torsos and Voyager limbs for all.

Actually the way Takara Tomy improved these I'm really not against sticking the Constructicons with MPs. Articulated hands be damned, most Voyagers look pretty good with MPs. They'll be just a little taller than an MP car which is a good size I think.

Scale talk issues from not more than five posters not less than one. So it ain't a big issue really except for space or funding availability. Let's all be honest, it's money out of our wallets again and hopefully our pockets can still sustain it #-o by Christmas or early January.
