Most of those are anything but thrilling. Nice on a few of them but MEH to most. They released so many figures that were better than some of these.

I only bought five of those (and want three others).

They also messed up with the Target exclusive smash and change white knight optimus prime (what a mouthful) which is supposed to also be on that list at number 28.

While I don't find the list that bad (the evolution packs make a buch of sense for a thrilling 30 line, along with MPs and Jetfire), I really dislike how a lot of it are con exclusive sets that are quite hard to find and I really dislike how 2 of them repeat themselves. Really, we need 2 Metroplexes to collect all 30??!!!!

ALso, as of now, I have 7 and hopefully will get MP Prowl as well. I dont need more than that. My top 3 are the Optimus 2 pack, the Target exclusive 2 pack and Jetfire.

Me too. It was a selling point of that FE mold, but that part of the Amazon description seems to have been struck from the record. The BB/Strafe/Stinger Walmart multipack might have had the logo, but I don't remember and totally threw my empty box for that set away.

william-james88 wrote:They also messed up with the Target exclusive smash and change white knight optimus prime (what a mouthful) which is supposed to also be on that list at number 28.

I'm pretty convinced that was a packaging mistake, but that's not technically wrong. They did two "#28"s.

what a poorly thought out list.

"Special 30th year list!"

"What's on it?"

"Whatever exclusives we had planned for that year anyway."

Precisely. Same for the two Metroplexes.

The best releases were G1/FOC Grimlock, Metroplex, Jetfire, and MP Soundwave.

The rest were s h i t.
Re: Video review of generations Chromia (1626004)

Oh, what could've been...the list is bad, there are 2 almost identical releases(which are exclusives, which makes them stupidly expensive), some are not so amazing toys and WHO THE HELL LET TARGET'S PAINTLESS KNIGHT ON THE LIST???(the one with Grimlock is how you do a SILVER kinght!)
Also, for a line that was supposed to celebrate the entire franchise, it's mosty AoE and Prime, with a few generations and MPs.
If they wanted to make it Thrilling, how about releasing a toy of each year? And if that proved too hard beacuse of lost/damaged moulds, they could have used other toys from near that year, or even not so great toys, as we have seen they didn't care about that here.
What baffles me the most is that they didn't rerelease G1 Optimus. Sure, there have been better Optimus toys since then, but come on! That toy is THE Transformers toy! And even if they have reissued it to death, it deserves it, and many of us have never been able to get one. I fully Understand G1 Megatron is off limits, but come on!
In my opinion, this line should've been the best of each year, or at least the best toys of each era.

The mass retail Generations line itself was what celebrated the 30th anniversary, containing toys that paid tribute to G1 (both 1980's and IDW's new take), Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, Armada, and more.

The 30 special toys were just something that the fandom put more importance on than Hasbro did, making them seem far more significant than the lame gimmick they really were, which tends to be the case for most lame gimmicks Hasbro does.

The Smash and Change Prime was definitely a mistake. The packaging for it reuses a lot of elements from the Leader version. Odds are, some random graphic designer at Hasbro forgot to remove it or accidentally pasted it in. They probably didn't really notice or care, since, hey, it's a $20 simplfied toy sold at Target.

Better than this list, but Springer as #1? I thought his mold brother Sandstorm was better.

I suspect a lot of that list is due to recency affect, which is a normal bias. Springer won based on it being on the most lists, and at that time that figure is what everyone was talking about. It wasnt the best figure on most lists, but it was the most present figure on lists, hence it's number 1 spot. I am really surprised how low MP-10 is, considering everything. They tabulated that he would be number 2 if they counted all molds, which makes much more sense to me.

Yeah this could have been a more "Thrilling" list with no doubles. I hope they don't pull this lame kind of list when we hit 35. :VEHI:

The one thing that is genuinely "thrilling" about this list is the sheer amount of toys on it. I mean, how often do we get a whopping 30 exclusives/special toys as opposed to ordinary toys?

There are some that are just laughable:

- Metroplex and Shockwave double on the list. The only changes are the little figures in the sets, nothing else.
- Beast Hunter Optimus Prime. Just a special box is not enough to make it special, the toy is unchanged from the retail version. Meh, MISB collectors will appreciate it, but not me.
Re: Video review of generations Chromia (1626261)
Posted by Va'al on December 2nd, 2014 @ 7:08am CST
Personally, the whole line went very much under the radar for me, and was never that appealing in the first place.

I do wonder how much thought Hasbro marketing put into it, and whether it was more of a later label slapped onto some figures. The only ones that really made sense were Metroplex and Windblade, in the current celebration of 30 years of Transformers. More updates to older characters would have fit more, but that's what MPs are for, really.

Huh, just rambling my fingers off here.

I'll agree with you there. Just stating my sentiments that at least the ones I listed were unnecessary, and better choices could have been made.

The number of exclusives may look large, but you can remove the two doubles along with the retailer exclusives which are still mass market releases, and the list no longer becomes too staggering.

I personally find Leader Jetfire to be the champion of that list as he is the bigggest mass release homage released this year and is an awesome example of how interesting the various roots for these toys are.

But like someone said, the thrilling 30 line in the generations series made up for this with G1, Beast Wars and Armada coming together (with Jetfire also championing the line).

You're right! Not only they doubled two figures, they just repacked unchanged retail releases! Seriously, the 30th anniversary deserved better, this feels almost as bad as Capcom "celebrating" Mega Man's anniversary by releasing a fan made game as their own, that was a new low.
Transformers came out a year later in Japan, right? Please tell me we still might get a truly spectacular SOMETHING from Takara :(

So would a british person consider AOE deluxe figures as retailer exclusive instead of mass market release ?

Oh ho! Such tricky phrasing ;) All I meant to say was that the retailer exclusives were not things you had to attend cons for or were only available online.

Well, who said everything on this list had to be those kinds of exclusives? All that was ever said (or at least implied) about the figures on this list is that they would be "special". Certainly that would apply for some, if not most, of the listed ones that weren't convention/online exclusives, no? :D

Can't here, only have 24 so far and still have some to pick up. Not gonna buy that ACG Metroplex or CybCon BH OP though. Also, two of the entries (Breakout Battle and G1 Deco AOE Sludge) aren't out yet here in the US.

Finally, I threw away the package for #14 due to the mixup between it and FE AOE Prime being that number.

Fun times!

Right on. ;)^ I can't tell you how many years I wanted to find a reasonably priced Hot Rod, Springer, and Jazz, that weren't broken or worn from age, and how much I was bummed out, for missing out on what I once considered Hasbro's only car-Arcee. Generations solved all of this and then some...

While I agree the fandom helped with the popularity of these releases, I feel Hasbro played the biggest part in the creation of this list:
- More AOE content than any (including the 1986) of the previous movies.
- More Transformers: Prime content than any of the previous series.
- Way too many items at the high price point.
- Way too many exclusives. Remember, Hasbro - Most of your past toys have been non-exclusives, and those toys are what have grown your Transformers line, and led to so many great series and fans.

I think I'll at least get Windblade. Jetfire is a distant maybe, but just a maybe right now.

Well, truth be told, I really lucked out with Special Ops Jazz, as he was out of retail, but I found him for about retail price at a comics show. However, Hot Rod was from the RTS 2-pack with Cyclonus/Nightstick, and wasn't the Classics v1.0. It's worth noting because this means you may see these two again... However, you'll have to wait until Hasbro "feels like it"... Also worth noting Hasbro only released two repaints of Classics Starscream, so two Classics Hot Rods might be it...
