The gorilla face and chest are a bit bluer than I would have wanted (they're supposed to be shiny silver), but overall the figure looks very nice. The best representation of the CGI model in toy form ever made.

1. These arent the final colours.
2. Things can look odd when dealing with the silver colour which is very reflective.
For instance, look at Long Haul below, he appears to have either green on his forehead or a hole right through it but it is in reality just a trick of the camera due to the reflective silver paint.

What if there were variants of this figure with the different head molds? That would be disastrous.

Same here. The toy looks fantastic and gives me extremely high hopes for a Beast Megatron. But the blue looks really off in beast mode. I can't help but think this was a deliberate choice to give Hasbro an opportunity to do a more accurate beast mode here in the States at a later date.

And no, it's not a trick of the camera, no professional photographer would allow that much reflection in the studio. Plus we'd see it in the glossy white legs as well. It's too consistent in both modes in all new photos to not be accurate.

The fur is the same color but the bot chest has the accurate metallic blue.

I'm glad to see that most agree that the gorilla chest, gorilla faces, and robot chest are too blue when they should be silvery gray with a slight hint of a blue tint.
The most understandable speculated-explanation I've seen comes from something TF_JW wrote elsewhere:

Whatever color, it should definitely be the same color as his hands and feet in gorilla mode. It's all exposed gorilla "skin".
I think what happened is that as Season 1 progressed, the animators found that blue light sources cast the most dramatic shadows/highlights across Primal's skin tone. So while in early episodes there's a lot of "natural" light causing the gorilla skin to be more flat/gray, they kept playing with the lighting in different situations and really came to like the blue. I certainly remember him being in dim lighting with a blue light on him on more than one occasion.
And while this makes sense for why he's blue here, I'm with those who feel that the gorilla skin (face, chest, hands, and feet) should have all been the same shade of shiny gray, and the robot chest as almost the same gunmetal as his robot waist and robot toes.

From that picture, it's pretty clear that there's no blue on the beast mode. It looks like cost savings with less colors of paint backfired.

It's also possibly a hand-painted sample that we see in this magazine scan, so there's still a chance that this deco may not be final.

I have no comment on the color differences, but I gotta be honest, this figure doesn't impress me much. I'm not saying it's bad, because it's not. But I'm looking at this and I'm looking at my 10th anniversary Primal standing on my desk, and I don't see a lot of improvement design-wise. Perhaps once I see the MP figure in a video being transformed it will change my opinion, but so far the differences between the MP and the '06 figure don't justify spending the money on the MP. Like I said, once the final product is available, it may change, but I doubt it.

The problem here might simply be that the Beast Wars figures were at the beginnings of modern Transformers articulation. Most of the figures were very poseable with good articulation. Optimus Primal was a great figure to begin with, especially with the mold changes made 10 (yikes) years ago. I think I'll have a great appreciation of this new Beast Convoy IF they do a Masterpiece Beast Megatron who had a cool toy originally but could use some improvements to get him closer to his animation model.

I agree. I think Beast Megatron is more appreciated and perhaps loved than Primal is. Due to characterization and David Kaye's voice work. That's not to say Garry Chalk didn't do well or Primal isn't likable, but I think most fans would like a MP Beast Megatron over a MP Optimus Primal, especially if the details and articulation is superior to the previously released figure as you mentioned. And I also have high hopes for a MP Beast Megatron as well. I kinda figured they would just get a release in the Generations line like Rhinox, Rattrap, and Waspinator, but a MP upgrade doesn't hurt. Japanese ToyMaker Tomy is holding a corporate event from match 24-25 where it is showing a few of it's upcoming products from it's many brands. One of the main toys being showcased is Takara's Transformers Beast Convoy, aka Optimus Primal.
What is new here is that we finally have a indicaton of the price and the release date. The price is 12000 Yen, which is around $106 USD at the moment. This is the MSRP, which means the actual price sold at retail in Japan and in Japanese online stores will be around 8500 Yen, or $75 USD.
The release date will be in October 2016 (end of the month, typically).
Aother great tidbit is that we finally have the actualy MP numbering. MP Beast Convoy is officially MP-32.
Below is the image where we gathered all this, where you can see the latest image of the toy's robot mode.

As for the actual palce to orer it, anywhere Japanese transformers are sold, its not an exclusive.
Robot mode, I understand, but you dont see this as a major improvement over the beast mode?
As for me, I am a bit upset that after all this time and all the advances, we still cant have this shoulder actualyl cover all the robot mode detail on his shoulder. Why not cover up all that white on the beast shoulders?!

Gorilla mode isn't the top priority for me, I am considering robot mode mainly. Ape mode I can take or leave, as my Primal is never ever in gorilla mode, because I really like the robot mode. Ironically, Beast Megatron is the opposite for me. Thats not saving 50$ off this toy though. The new one has double the parts count, and is not a 20 year old mold. If you buy that toy on amazon and then eventually buy the MP after the rave reviews come through, then all you do is end up losing 62$ by not having bought the right toy and instead compromised.
This is like when they did MP 10 and some thought they could just stick to MP01. And then a few years later MP10 was selling routinely for 400$ and people were sad they hadnt bought it for cheaper when they could.
I am not trying to tell you what to do, I just dont want you to regret things later. Sometimes paying more now means we dont have to pay even more later. Ask ayone who paid the money to get to the 2011 Botcon Custom Class.

Actually more than $50, since the MP is $120 plus shipping. I just ordered the one above last week and very happy with it being MP size and matching week with Ratrap, Blackarachnia, and the rest.

The MP is 75$, that is the real retail price. Every other price you see is an importer. Its like someone saying G2 Superion is 200$ because they saw an importer listing: http://www.redmercury.co.jp/shop/detail ... =RED-12631

The shipping will be something like 15$, like it was with MP Shockwave
