Tankor may very well be the Beast Machines character, but isn't it odd to release Beast Wars Rhinox along with his future self at the same time in completely different size classes? Is a rhino bigger than a cybertronian tank?
Here's a weird idea. Maybe this new Tankor is IDW Grindcore? Think about it. We've already got tons of IDW inspired figures coming out, and Grindcore is another "new" character created for the IDW Generation 1 comics. Also, Grindcore has a tank alt-mode, and he's apparently repurposed from the Takara Transformers United EX line "Tankmaster" (or visa versa?). Why not call him Grindcore, then? Maybe trademark reasons, although, Gridcore was a name for a movie line Autobot (redeco of Cybertron Landmine). Maybe the name is unobtainable now, or Hasbro doesn't want confusion with his faction due to earlier use of the name Gridcore for the Autobots? Why use Tankor? Seems to be a goto name for Hasbro these past several years when nothing else will work. It could also be an attempt to bridge the character with Tankmaster from United EX.

When I was proposing my theory, I also hit the same snag. But then I remembered something: in the IDW comics, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge are separate characters from Megatron, Skywarp, and Thundercracker, respectively, as opposed to the traditional "Unicron upgraded these guys". So it's quite possible that in the IDW continuity, Rhinox and Tankor, like the aforementioned Decepticons, are separate characters.
Ehh, maybe. I could see them doing a Tankor first, then, knowing how lazy Hasbro can be sometimes, they can redeco it into Grindcore.

Of course, a deluxe Rattrap sounds like he might be a tad too big. Maybe we'll see a new spin on the ol' package-someone-with-a-downed-traffic-light trick? Some actual garbage to munch? His collection of Waspinator parts?

If true, then the only way this year could get any better for Beast Wars news is if someone came up with a treatment to permanently counteract the Transmetal chrome flaking problem!Mindmaster wrote: But then I remembered something: in the IDW comics, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge are separate characters from Megatron, Skywarp, and Thundercracker, respectively, as opposed to the traditional "Unicron upgraded these guys". How about the laser pistol that was used in the cartoon? Or maybe one of his explosives that he also used often in the cartoon?

As for Nightbeat, that example looks awesome...but dammit, I still want a Nightbeat with not only his Marvel head, but G1 character model chest! To The Pit with IDW considerations!

I was assuming the gun is a given, but neither of those examples would take up enough space to get a scout-sized Rattrap into deluxe packaging, much like Animated Prowl's shuriken (and he wasn't even Scout-y, just skinny). Maybe if they threw in a dozen of those bombs, but did he ever use more than 2 at once on the show, 1 in each forearm?Mindmaster wrote:Bumblevivisector wrote:If true, then the only way this year could get any better for Beast Wars news is if someone came up with a treatment to permanently counteract the Transmetal chrome flaking problem!Mindmaster wrote: But then I remembered something: in the IDW comics, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge are separate characters from Megatron, Skywarp, and Thundercracker, respectively, as opposed to the traditional "Unicron upgraded these guys". If those listings are true, then we pretty much have the whole line-up for the coming year, give or take. We now have 17 Deluxes, which is a good size for the year (Prime had 14 and 16 Deluxes, FoC Generations had 18).

I remember reading sometime last year that Generations would receive up to at least forty toys. Including the Fall of Cybertron Deluxes and Voyagers, and the the Thrilling 30 Voyagers, we've got just about forty five in total (may have forgotten a couple Voyagers). I'd say we received much love for us Classics-lovers.

There's is one problem, Grimdcore is like super dead right now, as in he died shortly after his debut in 2008.
I do believe tanker is the Beast Machines guy.

It would still be weird for them to make a toy based on a character that showed up for a few pannels in one comic, and hasn't shown up for 5 years due to being dead.

Although, we are getting Double Dealer very soon, who died in his very own spotlight issue. Admittedly, he's not being produced with his IDW body, as he's a repaint of Generations Blitzwing. Still, being dead doesn't stop a toy from being made. How many toys did Prime Cliffjumper get AFTER he died 5 minutes into the series premiere?

Yeah, but he appeared in the IDW comics well before his own spotlight issue, making on and off recurring appearances before his death at the end of in his spotlight.Wolfman Jake wrote:Although, we are getting Double Dealer very soon, who died in his very own spotlight issue.
Cliffjumper also starred in the four-issue Prime graphic novel that came out more than a month before the cartoon's first episode premiered.Wolfman Jake wrote:How many toys did Prime Cliffjumper get AFTER he died 5 minutes into the series premiere?

Here's the differences:
Doubledealer is an established oldschool character
Doubledealer was a major character before his death
Grindcore was only in that one issue to get killed off, he wasn't even a minor character, that's like making a toy based off of the guy Megatron killed in that one flashback of the movie (07).
