Finally concluding our saga of leaks, today we received quite the shocking review of the yet-unconfirmed (by HasTak) WFC Siege Leader Class Optimus Prime, courtesy of TonTon Review! This serves as easily our most thorough look at the Unicron Trilogy-inspired Prime yet, as TonTon’s mechanical monologue goes into detail regarding the figures articulation, paint and mold detailing, vehicle modes, robot modes, weapons, Six-Gun compatibility and size comparisons against both Siege Deluxes and the Cybertron original! We also see some unfortunate things, such as the Super Mode head being visible in alt mode (upside down or not), and that the wheels must be partsformed when converting to robot mode.

We also cannot understate how unusual this truly is, as not only has there been no reported sightings of this figure yet, but there has also never been an official statement directly from the mouths of anyone at either Hasbro or Takara even confirming this figures existence, let alone visage. This seems to suggest that some retailer may have accidentally released the figure early, in which case the hunt is most certainly on for Siege fans everywhere, or that TonTon is a HasTak employee. If you happen to be as lucky as TonTon and find this bewildering figure, be sure to let us know in your area’s sightings forum.

Special thanks to Riley Hoffman, Survivefan23, and Powermaster Ultra Prime for all sending this review our way!

Seeing as this is our first in-depth look at the figure, be sure to discuss your thoughts on the figure (as well as how TonTon may have acquired the figure) in the forums below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for more Transformers news and reviews!

Actually, I wouldn't say this came from a retailer...more like from the factory itself, as its just like the case with studio series #38 Bumblebee Movie Optimus Prime...i would think we were supposed to have seen this for the first time at toy fair for a wave 2 leader release.

You'd think that, given that this figure and BB Optimus have been so thoroughly leaked at this point that Hasbro would've just done the official "reveal" on social media, like they did back... however long ago now it was they revealed the FOC Combaticons and the likes of Prime Knockout.
I mean I know they'll have planned some big Toyfair reveal for these figures, and I'm sure there will be some surprises (Siege Omega being properly revealed fingers crossed) but they have to know by now that the gig is up. These figures exist and anyone who cares knows it.

Thanks for the video. He looks ok, I guess. There's just something off about it to me. I think the most distracting part for me would have to be the unpainted "wing wheels" on the outside. I know they were going for the aesthetic of the Cybertron version, but if they were at least not molded to look like wheels on the outside, I think it would have looked better. And I think the "hollowness" of this mold, primarily the cannons, also really makes it standout from the rest of the Siege line. Not necessarily in a good way. Just my two cents. :D

Man, someone at HasTak has got to be pissed.

But man, that thing looks good.

Shame he didn't take the opportunity to compare him with the regular Voyager...

The smaller robot has to be the weaker of the modes, like Ultra Magnus, a bit chunkier (tho not Energon bad) than I would have liked and the G1 style vs. Cybertron... It makes me wanna yell:

"Armor Time! <insert Galaxy Force/Cybertron theme> Galaxy Force!"

As a owner and fan of the Cybertron original, the Siege leader Optimus is a solid PASS for me. It's fake-overkill and it's just a pale hommage to the original. It's even more of a pass because I plan to get Siege leader Ultra Magnus.

Still, look like a solid toy for those who don't have the Cybertron original and/or don't plan to get Siege Magnus.

I suspect only those interested in the very specific details of the figure, such as wanting a Galaxy Force/Cybertron Optimus or those who just want a Siege Optimus with a super mode. That said, it being a Leader Class Optimus mean it should still do decently at retail in spite of it's flaws.

If only his smaller robot head was that of the mouthed Cybertron Optimus. Then he'd actually shoot up a couple point up for me but as he is right now, it somewhat stink of compromise to appease TEH GEEWUN. I'm really tempted to get one for custom fodder, however.

Edit: Beside people saying it could work as Nova Prime, I want to turn mine into neo-G1/Aligned Prima by painting him white, light blue and silver.

That's a good idea. And the fact that the super mode is 100% partforming open an infinity of possibilities.

I like that this figure exists, but I already have the black-ish repaint version wearing the '07 movie Wingblade as a backpack and that is more than good enough for me. Actually, that figure was the first Prime I ever got and is among the first Transformers I ever got at all. Feels kind of weird that it is old enough now to be remade.

Honestly, I think TonTon got him from a overseas seller or off of a Ebay seller. Remember with lines like ROTF & Animated? Back in the day, some well known YouTube reviewers like Peaugh got figures early before their release. That, I think, is how TonTon got him.

Like I said, one idea I'm legit thinking of doing is a G1-ish version of Aligned Prima. You see, Marvel Comics Prima was this yellow and blue kibble-less Silverbolt lookalike. However his Aligned design (which also got used in IDW), or 'neo-G1' as I call it depict him as primarily a heavenly white and blue. This design also depict his helmet with side wing-like protrusions.

My idea is to use this mold because it look suitably Optimus Prime (I mean, it is an Optimus toy!) in its Super Mode without having a headsculpt that is identical to G1 Prime. That helmet and the big wings make him look suitably angelic, hence my Prima idea.

Then I'd get a Star Saber (the sword, not the dude) off Shapeways and insert the matrix part that come with Optimal Optimus in the hilt. :-D

I have the regular version of OP with the '07 Wingblade attached to him and it's just an awesome combination. I have to say the new looks better in the review than in the pictures that leaked first. But I only like his powered up robot mode. All other modes are kind of ugly. And he's missing too many cool gimmick of the original. The only reason I would get him is if they'll give him a good partner to combine with and make an awesome combination.

As speaking of that: since Combiner Wars I want a Leader class Tidal Wave to combine with CW or a new Armada Megatron. And retool of this SIEGE Leader class UM/OP mold into Thunderclash would be amazing :bigmichaelbay:

What annoy me is that Titans Return gave us Sky Shadow, whose jet part is basically 100% Thunderdwing on the basis that Black Shadow was a retool of G1 Thunderwing. All he would have needed is a new helmet, a new head a tiny bit of chest remolding and BAM! Leader class Thunderwing.

But nope. All we got is a small diecast head. :HEADHURTS:

Absolutely my words. I guess they wanted to save him in case PotP Evolution Thunderwing would be a thing especially as the chest is completely hollow and no transformation going in this part but as he didn't... I hope they'll still give us a WfC trilogy Leader class Thunderwing with upgrade armor.

I'm one of those people hoping that the contender for the Prime votes all get toys some day, at least those who were characters in need of a good Voyager/Leader update. So, you know, Star Saber, Deathsaurus, Thunderwing and Shockwave. Of course we did get Shockwave and while Ultra Magnus had the CW toy, he also got a Siege toy nonetheless.

I feel like perhaps in the second installment we may get a leader Star Saber, and a retool could be Thunderwing. It's not the best solution, but it's one I feel works well enough that Hasbro might do it. They see a demand for both, and they can save money by just retooling them into each other, if we do get them at all

Id be really rolling myself if Star Saber is a leader class and also a brainmaster of him included. Dezaras either too. :x

we might get Thunderwing, Arcee on the other hand. :HEADHURTS:

Man, this Siege version makes the original Galaxy Convoy look chunky and clumsy. And the super mode is the same size as the original without the armor. I like this figure, I'll probably pick it up. I don't care for the faux wheels on the trailer, but I'll get over it. Otherwise, the figure looks solid. I like Magnus, and this is a retool, so I'll probably like it as well. Just like all the other Siege figures, it will be an in-hand decision.

I am pretty sure we'll get Star Saber. It'd be foolish of HASBRO to not give us a new Generations version of him And I'd be down for a retool in Thunderwing.

Would you be down for Star Saber if they modeled him on his IDW version? ;) while I think they'll do him, it's most certainly a question of when, and I'd rather have him in a line that makes sense and one where its clear he's the leader of the Autobots, best way to reference JG1. As for Thunderwing... A crazy idea... An exclusive set, called Battle of Thunder (or thunderdome) where we get two leader Class retools, one for Thunderwing...One for Thunderclash!

Star Saber being a Leader Class toy in a Generations line isn't just fans clamoring for a fan-favorite but simply pattern recognition. The Leader price point is for two things which sometimes overlap: characters which are meant to be big and chunky (or who require the price point, like Six Shot) and for faction leaders/major figures. As it is, Star Saber was at one point an Autobot Leader even if it was just in an anime that never made it to the US.

No the reason why Star Saber seem so inevitable is the precedent laid out by Overlord: a Leader class almost 1:1 remake of a big, pricy Japanese-exclusive figure and character released as a mass retail Leader-class figure. Outside of some places in Europe, Overlord had never been released in the west at mass retail and yet Titans Return saw him get the biggest price point at mass retail because, let's face it, Overlord would not have worked at anything smaller.

This is why I think Star Saber has to happen some day: there aren't a lot of Autobots left for the Leader price point unless Hasbro decide to fill every single line with Optimus/Magnus/Rodimus/Jetfire every single time. Right now we are down to only two big (big as in size and chunk) :BOT: Leaders: Star Saber and Thunderclash, both of which could easily be pretooled into a more marketable character to save cost.

I mean there's Dai Atlas, but it seem like Takara has this one covered this time around with Legends EX.

I can't say I'm certain, but I'm pretty sure this Prime still has the panels from Magnus' trailers on his legs, so we might be able to do some fan-moding for a different truck mode.

They don't look to be the exact same panels, given how Magnus's folded up for the transformation, but I agree that those side panels on his super mode boots definitely still appear to be on hinges for a yet unknown reason.

This review has absolutely solidified for me that I am no longer interested in paying full price for Magnus and am instead much more interested in waiting for the superior version of the mold, Prime looks amazing and I cannot wait. I might still snag Magnus if I find him on sale somewhere/discounted on the new Hasbro store, but I'm not nearly as invested as I am in Prime. Plus I'm trying to limit myself to only buying myself 2 Leader figures a year unless they're not full price, and I already grabbed an SS Blackout last month.

Also, of the PotP vote characters we have yet to get, I would be the most excited for Deathsaurus, followed by Thunderwing. I still want an updated Energon Wing Saber more than I do a Star Saber, IDW-inspired or otherwise. Thunderclash would also be amazing though.

I just figured out a mod for Voyager Optimus Prime: there's a slight problem with his front wheels. There's a little edge that causes them to always be at an angle in truck mode.

I recently finally got Voyager Prime, and I'm loving him. While I don't really have a problem with the truck mode like I know some people do, I did notice that the parts of the truck face/cab that people don't like (grill, roof lights, translucent bits, weird turbine bits on the bottoms of the sides, etc.) are all formed either by Prime's backpack or extraneous parts on the forearms, all of which are fairly easily and safely removable, which leads me to question - why hasn't anyone designed an upgrade kit which replaces those bits with parts that make the truck mode more resemble a classic Optimus Earth semi?

Well for one thing the mushroom peg keeping the backpack on is pinned in making it permanently blocked; in general though, now that a lot of people are getting him in hand, I think the enjoyment they're getting out of him is kinda cooling down their dislike of the vehicle mode

He's so good now that his roof lets me transform him into a vehicle; just so awesome on every level, I really kinda need a nemesis version of this mold with trans-red plastic all over his truck mode face, it would be so sick

Not to mention, he’s only been out for so long. Design process and turnaround time isn’t overnight.

Actually, not quite - it doesn't have complete clearance, so it is ever so slightly dodgy, but you definitely can get the mushroom peg past the hinge keeping the peg slot on to remove it without damaging anything. The hinge on the torso has to be angled up as far as possible, and you have to pull the mushroom peg up and out to do it.

EDIT: images for reference, showing it's possible to do it without damaging any part involved:

the position needed to do it:

after-shots of both the hinge on the torso and its peg slot and the mushroom peg on the backpack:

EDIT 2: higher-angle shot, further showing no damage to the peg slot:

That's pretty nice! This open a lot of custom possibilities. :-D

Fair enough, I did know that it was sorta close at that angle, but I didn't want to make it seem like that was a sure-fire option

Ah, that's understandable.

Also, here's some shots of him with both the backpack and the forearm kibble removed (Do note that removing the forearm kibble does seem to be stressing the plastic a little bit; for the window panels on the outsides of the forearms it's stressing it on the actual panel, which can seemingly be avoided by pulling it straight out of its hinge instead of one side then the other, but for the turbine thingys on the undersides of the forearms it's stressing the plastic inside the actual forearm, and I'm not sure how to avoid it, perhaps by making sure you pull the mushroom peg for it out first on the side of the hole that is bordered by part of the inner half piece of the forearm, which doesn't actually form any part of the peg slot and just closes up the hole, so that you're just pushing a separate piece out of the way slightly and not really stressing anything, or if you really wanna be careful, take a screwdriver to the forearm, open it up, and pull the mushroom peg for the turbine thingy out horizontally just to make sure it doesn't stress anything):

I still hope someone at Hasbro goes crazy and says "You know what, let's finally give Epsilon Delta what he has always wanted and make an Ultra Magnus out of the Galaxy Force/Cybertron Optimus Prime."

They'll retool an Optimus into an Ultra Magnus and then retool that Magnus back into Optimus only to later use parts of that Optimus to make another Magnus which... :HEADHURTS:

In the previous trilogy, we had a leader ultra magnus that was retooled into Optimus Prime which was further retooled into a toy released by Hasbro called Magnus Prime

Also, if you want more clumsy robotic poetry, the previous homage to Galaxy Convoy was in a botshot toy called... Ultra Magnus

Not quite, he was actually redecoed from an Optimus Prime (which I have):

He can be found in the Armada Optimus Prime toy list, not the G1 one like Ultra Magnus was.

However the fact remains the Cybertron design was still favored more among the non-G1 series next to Beast Wars. My guess is that unlike the Armada and Energon ones he's a single unit and not that different between Standard and Super Modes.
