G1'ers: Powermasters vs. Headmasters vs. Targetmasters

Postby Unicron's Head » Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:58 pm

When I was a kid, the masters lines was just about the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

I love giant robots (I know, who doesn't?), but I love tiny ones too, and in the masters lines you got the best of both worlds. Over all, for me at least, the Headmasters won out.

I thought Powermasters were pretty alright; they had some limited articulation, and for being that small that was impressive. They also used shiny "chrome" plastic in parts making them look like real engines. And although it got frustrating as I lost them over time, the fact that you couldn't transform the main bot without the Powermaster always struck me as cool too.

Targetmasters were ok, but had no articulation and typically their gun forms were a bit too bulky or top heavy to seem very threatening.

Headmasters had awesome detail on their suits, articulation at the arms, hips, AND the knees. And they weren't all exactly the same either, they made them look really distinct from one to the next. The on board tech spec meters cemented the deal. Although shaved down to only three categories, it was a cool feature, and regardless of what body the Headmaster plugged into, they'd carry their specs with them.

But that's just my opinion (long winded as it may be) What do you guys and gals think?

I am a total G-oner but if I had to choose then it would be Headmasters because I always liked the early battles between Scropie and Fort Max.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

I would have to go with headmasters because of the decepticon animals of those my favorite was always mindwipe.

I don't know, to be honest. As a concept, I think I'd go for the Targetmasters, but most of my favourite bots from the range were Head- or Powermasters (namely Max, Skullcruncher, Brainstorm, Dreadwind and Darkwing).

I'd have to say Powermasters first, because I'm a huge fan of Joyride and Slapdash. Second is Headmasters because the alt modes were awesome plus you got the piolt which also doubled as a head. Then finally Targetmasters. Guns turning into robots was awesome too.
