It seems when they scan a alt form it tailors their bodies to become that vehicle in form and function

That means Bumblebee can change from Camaro to Mustang to Camry to Solstice to Cadillac to Mondeo to Focus to Altima to Porsche 911 anytime.

Why would Bumblebee waste a lot of precious energy just to impress Mikaela? Especially with the impending war up ahead.

They definitely gave the impression that changing alt modes was as simple changing from robot to car, I mean where he did it and why he did it made it seem as though it didn't require much effort or energy

That's exactly what i'm bitching about. In the Bay Movie, it was portrayed that they can simply change form anytime, at whim. Like Bumblebee did. Like Frenzy did. So why the need to transform?

Alright i'll concede that they probably can change forms at the drop of a hat.

As for why the Autobots didn't scan one of the Raptor's or helicopters flying around ... well that would have seen them take on entirely different looks which requires extensive animating and rendering, not to mention toy development.

But for me, i would have just remove that ability from the Movie. Make them only able to change once. That is, upon arrival on Earth, while in protoform mode.

Bumblebee's re-scanning was part of his mission, if Sam decided he wasn't good enough and tried to sell him again or get rid of him, his mission as Sam's bodyguard could be threatened. He had to scan first an old car to be affordable for Sam, then a new one to make him want to stay with the car.

Scanning probably requires making the regeneration system expose vital parts during reconfiguration of alt modes, so its not practical to do it in battle. And it should depend too in the availability of systems inside of the protoform, by example, if a transformer doesn't have high thrust reaction motors, it can scan a jet, but it can't fly as jet. I think the protoforms scanned depend of the power output of the transformer. So thats a good explanation of why Megatron seems to be more powerful than Optimus: a spaceship stores/needs way more energy than a truck.

Well, they erase their form and return to their Cybetronian self, i beleive. Thats how Starscream left Earth. The thing is...how the hell will the Autobot do that? They are flightless!

If they can scan and replicate forms, cant they just make something up?
