So, even if they have never combined, they at least exist as a team, then? Who is in this team in the comics? Is it the same five members as in G1? Or is there some new sixth member so Groove can be turned into something else? (Presumably a gun?)

I don't think the protectobots were ever a team in IDW, I know Blades and first aid for damn sure, weren't ever presented as part of a team with hot spot, streetwise, groove, or rook. I think the beginning of MTMTE "season 2" is the first time all of them have been in the same place at the same time.

So, why is it that it's truck, car, or jet/or/helicopter? Why not truck, car, jet, or Helicopter? Also, that notably covers the entire line up of revealed deluxes, which makes me think that the next limb will be pulled from the two losers of the first round, plus one of the next deluxes, and so forth and so forth.

It makes me wonder if Hasbro has certain elements of the team outlined already, and is playing a game funneling our choices into a limited number of possible choices. Like that trick David Copperfield used to do on TV with the numbers on the screen.

I wouldn't be surprised. The real 'choice' will happen in the next rounds when colors and backstory are chosen

Yep, I reckon this new combiner has pretty much been already decided by Hasbro and they're just directing us to make it seem like we're making the choices. We'll definitely be getting a combiner from existing moulds, unlike Windblade who was at least an entirely new mould. They'll just be redecos with new heads and new names/backstories.

For what it's worth I voted for a Decepticon combiner using the Silverbolt mould as the base mould. We've already got 2 uses out of the Motormaster/Prime base mould, and if they ever do a Combaticon team it could be an Onslaught made from the Hot Spot mould, so there'll be 2 uses out of that mould too. Also, because we already have 3 Autobot teams out of Ultra Prime, Superion and Defensor. Menasor, a possible Bruticus, and a new Decepticon combiner would even the scores. That is, until Titan Devestator comes in and ruins the party!

Cool for those that are interested, but I'm very happy with my RTS version, and don't want him as part of a combiner team.

Interested to see what team he'll be part of (providing the rumour is true), considering his place in IDW's continuity.

The number of Decepticon combiners always outnumbered the Autobot combiners in the G1 Hasbro-produced cartoons. A new Autobot combiner placed into the lore would even things out a bit, actually.

I kind of think it's going to be an Autobot, if the poll is really open. I don't see the average kid voting for a decpticon combiner. Try to look at the bright side, these are really good molds, and maybe they'll come out looking fairly interesting

Well, there was also that 2003 Universe Inferno figure that, while being an Autobot, was a version of Beast Wars Inferno having been given a body that's only equipped to put out fires rather than start them. Good thing he viewed Optimus Primal as a his queen.

Cool idea with a Decep fire truck being a fire starter truck. I really do hope they can squeeze a Decepticon set out of this with voting. It's seldom we get a good "mature" dark, muted, gray-black-purple-rust colored kinda set. Mainstream Hasbro releases are usually bright colors.... like Bee. I'd hope we might take the opportunity to go another direction.
