Dak's Nova Prime (WIP UPDATE: March. 24)

Postby TM dak » Mon Nov 05, 2007 12:13 pm

Here's my version of Nova Prime, still a WIP. Just trying to get the base down for now, then going to sculpt the details, and make it look a little more like the character. What you see is the truck with out the trailer/armor.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. I'm going the delux route using an extra Rodimus. I'm going to mod the bot then attept to scratch build the trailer.

Dang man, it's looking nice already. It's great to see you back in action Dak!

Decepticon1976 (one of the lurkers here) and I were swooning over how awesome it would be to have a toy of Nova Prime just a few short weeks ago.

Here's a question to ask everyone, for his wheels, Do you think oversized low profile like in the concept image, or same deal, but different rims like in the comic version. (refer to the first post for referances.)

Wow, that is one sexy-looking truck! It's definitely starting to come together now.

Mind telling where you got the parts from? I can't place those front quarterpanels or the tires.

The tires look very alternator to me.

Sorry for the slow updates. Work has been crazy the last few weeks and I haven't had too much time to update anything, but here's what I have at the moment. The rear wheels have been added on to the arms, there is a head for Basic mode, the knees have been re adjusted for better proportions in super and basic modes and work on the grill/basic mode feet has been started. After the feet, I believe my next task will be to beef up the shoulder pads and make them more "Nova" looking.

Also a note, I have decided to give the character the head sculpts of the original designs. maybe when the project's done I'll create a head based on the comic version, but right now it's all going to be based on Don's sketch.

Enjoy

This shows work started on the front grill

That head is absolutely gorgeous, did you build it from scratch?

Also, I totally hear you on the "crazy last few weeks" thing. Seems like now is the time for all of us to be wrapping up 2007 work projects, in addition to that whole Christmas shopping thing for the folks we care about.

I'm curious how the legs are looking now that they're coming together? Finding wheels of an adequate size is a real bother on this one.

Thanks bud! The head is C Wingsaber's with a few modifications. It's been shaved down and rounded out. I was also trying to look for a character that had a good mouth plate to use, so I had been cutting and cutting, then finally I just went back to the original Wingsaber face and used that. but I did replace the eyes with Armada Scavenger's and puttied up the mouth to give that true Nova Prime mouth plate.

The legs are coming together. I had to avoid the sliding idea from the original drawings and used another rotating joint. it works just as well. The only real issue I had come across is attaching the upper legs at the right point on the lower legs so when going to super mode it neither had too short nor too long legs. It took a lot of patients... but I was able to get it.

And yes, wheels... another pain in my behind. I had been looking high and low for the best wheels for my character. Started with model cars, then moved to Dollar Store toys, and then to Lego. Lego had the exact wheels I wanted, but they were too costly, and I was afraid they might be too wide. i did eventually find the wheels I wanted, and I found it in the toddler section in TRU. I know I have now wrecked some kid's dream by using a Spark Racerz car, but it worked. lol.
But here's how I found mine, I had a model wheel I liked for it's diameter and brought it to the store and measured it up against every wheel I saw that looked to be the style I wanted.

I'm really excited to see how yours is coming a long!
