Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

DSanza contacted me to ask about tourist advice for Chicago. I live here ... work right downtown and live about 6 blocks from the famous Wrigley Field (home of the lovable Cubbies). Some of us will be getting together to do the bars and/or something fun on Friday and Saturday night that weekend. Would any of you be interested in meeting somewhere in Wrigleyville or downtown for a good ol' fashioned Seibertron.com bar outting? I'm more than happy to be a tour guide to a group of us if you guys want to do the downtown bar and restaurant scene.
For those of you who are new to Chicago, let me provide you with some relevant details to make your trip a little more entertaining.
Wizard World Chicago 2007
This year's show is only in a few weekends during August 9th through the 12th. I'm planning on going on Saturday, the 11th. I usually like to go, take a bunch of pictures for Seibertron.com if there's stuff of interest there, and plunder the dealers' stock of Transformers toys. It's been a pretty regular thing for my buddies Ben, Kevin (Prof Smooth) and I plus a few other odd and end folks each year. I know a lot of Seibertron.com folks go so why not turn this year's convention into an all-out weekend event here in Chicago for those of us attending?

JP Gift
There's a great Japanese toy store out in Arlington Heights called JP Gift. The store is located off Arlington Heights Rd and Golf Rd in Arlington Heights west of Rosemont (where Wizard World is located) just off 90. Here's their address: http://www.seibertron.com/sightings/sto ... e_id=22678
Quake Collectibles
There's a fun little 80s, 90s and today type toy store called Quake Collectibles which is in the Chicago neighborhood called Lincoln Square. They're conveniently located off the Brown Line "L" train if you get off the Western stop and then walk east a block or so to their store on Lincoln Avenue. They aren't the best at matching up parts with figures but it seems like they've always go something for everyone. It's a great store that will suck you in for 30 - 60 minutes while you look through all of the stuff they have. Here's their address: http://www.seibertron.com/sightings/sto ... e_id=15314
Chicago City Pass
Gets you into the Shedd Aquarium VIP, The Field Museum & Underground Adventure, Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, Museum of Science and Industry plus OMNIMAX, The Hancock Observatory (all of them are downtown except for the Museum of Science and Industry which is south of the city near the lake shore). You can find out more information at http://www.citypass.com/city/chicago.html
Restaurants / Bars
As for restaurants, all of your typical places are downtown like Hard Rock Cafe, Rainforest Cafe, the Rock and Roll McDonalds, the Cheesecake Factory, Rock Bottom Brewery, Mike Ditka's Steakhouse, Harry Caray's, The Signature Room @ The Hancock and so on.
Public Transportation
THE source for information about Chicago's famous "L" trains and the city busses. This will tell you how to get from point A to point B.
http://transitchicago.com/
http://transitchicago.com/maps/tripplanner.html - This is probably the most useful tool on their site, aside from the maps and schedules. You can enter your starting address and your destination address and it will give you directions on public transportation how to get there.
I live in the Wrigleyville Neighborhood which is north of downtown. I'm about 6 blocks from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs which is definitely a site to see for 1st timers to Chicago.
I'd love to get some of us together. I think we're planning on a bar outting on Friday and Saturday night of that weekend. Maybe we could turn it into a Seibertron.com bar outting if we get enough of us. I believe Prof Smooth will be out with us and a few of my other friends.
