Jin's Custom BLACKOUT! With Gatling Gun, EMP Disruptor and more!

Postby Jin Saotome » Wed Aug 08, 2007 2:53 pm

You've requested him many times over, almost as much as the Leader Megs... you've languished over the figure in hand, wishing he could come alive and wreak havoc on your shelves....

The wait is over! I present Blackout, complete with magnetic removable wrist-mounted Gatling gun and EMP Disruptor, multi-position waist/chest minigun, retooled balljoint wrists, and I got rid of those gawd awful panels that stick up on the sides of his arms! Well, they're modded to the side at least. He's now a darker gray-blue and has been give the blackline treatment. I didn't want to dirty him up this time around because I wanted him to look like the PaveLow coptor pic I have at the bottom. The hardest thing about the paint job wasn't on Blackout, it was painting the little diagonal lines on mini-scorp's eyes and the turbine blades where there are none in his claws. Yeah, he's that detailed.

Here's a couple pics but for the rest, you'll have to go to my site!

Another brilliant piece, Mr. Saotome!

How do you sleep at night, hording these skills all
to yourself?! No matter, you've turned a general let-down
into a complete marvel.

Keep 'em coming, tex.

That is, like I say to all your repaints, absolutely wonderful!
Do you know why I always say that? Because they're well detailed, movie accurate, wonderfully "edited", & made by you :D

In a league of my own then? Hehe, thanks for the replies!

Yep, I have Leader prime on my desk. Might not get to him till next week as I'm going on a trip tomorrow. Leader Brawl happens when I can find him.

I don't horde my skills, I post all those guides and tips on my site so anyone can have have them! Yup, it's all there in my guides section. The same painting techniques I use on my ML figures, I use on my Transformers. I didn't even take Blackout apart, he's painted entirely by hand and assembled. Stop taking your TFs apart! They cry when you do that.

Yet another brilliant repaint.

You make me want to repaint my own figures, something I have learnt from experience that I should not do.
Damn you. :P

Excellent work, but it does pose a question.

Why do you go to all of this work, just to end up selling them off?

I'd at least keep 'em after all this work...

Ah, and excellent question and one I get asked all the time. It's got a multi-part answer too.

First, for practice. My skills improve with every project I complete. I don't stop at just one attempt at a character and try to make the next one even better. I don't want to horde the extras of a character and would rather other people enjoy my work, so I sell them off. Customizing has pretty much become my full-time job now. I can always make a figure again too should I want to keep an extra and quite often I do. So it's a win-win situation for me selling my customs. I get the practice and people get figures they can't, or don't have the time to make.

I'm making dreams come true, hehe..

For some true artists (such as Jin), it's not about the money. Just the fact that he can do the work and it's widely accepted is the bigger prize. Money's a bonus, a nice one, but a bonus.

So then, you at least keep one of each figure as part of your collection, I take it? (Modified or otherwise.)

How I made all his weapons is in his link, yep.

I do indeed keep a copy of what I really like. But I'm picky so I have to -really- want to keep something.

Thanks for all the shout-outs and compliments too!

Re: Jin's Custom BLACKOUT! With Gatling Gun, EMP Disruptor and m

Postby Kryptokron » Sun Feb 03, 2008 1:09 am

Hey Jin! I just joined with Seibertron, and I've been looking at kitbashes for about 5 hours now! I have to say that I love this one! Blackout is by far my fav out of the movies bots, and I really dig what you've done. I do have a question though, and I guess this can be for any one on here. I have been thinking about how to modify Blackout's legs to be more faithful to what I saw onscreen, but keep it transformable.Do you or anyone have any suggestions for me?
