Leave Batteries In or Out

Hello guys.

Do you guys leave batteries in or out of your toys?? Does it damage the toys to leave them in when not in use?? Do you use rergular or alkaline??

Thanks a bunch!!

It Depends on the Batteries, and what they power.

for example even though Energon Skorponok uses button cell batteries. I removed them because his engine sounds was driving me insane. It would activate just by looking at him. Try to transform him and he'd sound like a bag of bolts. It was too much.

R.I.D. Prime on the other hand I like his sounds, so the batteries are left in.

Basically you only need to remove them and then only if they are acid based, if your are planning on storing the figures for long periods of time.

Otherwise, button cell batteries can be left in. and regular ones too if they are not going into storage for too long.

I wouldn't leave them due to battery leakage that ruins the electronics inside. I take mine off everytime after use ,and check for leakage before I put them back on again.

He does have a little plastic tab that can be slid in to prevent the sounds you know. Unless if course you got him used and/or tossed the plastic tab away.

I have a G2 Optimus Prime reissue that I opened but kept in the box, put in storage and had almost forgotten about. It's the one with the black trailer and voicebox. I must've bought that over a decade ago, and up until last year, the original batteries were still working.

I took it down again in march of this year, but by then they'd run down. It had button cells, and there was no sign of leakage.

Of course not, button cells don't leak since there is no acid in them. They power by metallic oxides instead so no leakage can occur.

when not in use, I recommend taking the batteries out so that they do not leak in the figure. Once the batteries' chemical destroy the inside of an item, it is very difficult to get it to work.

... we know, you pointed this out in your first post. :)

- I was just surprised it had lasted so long on demo batteries.

It wasn't until I'd opened the box that I realised it was working on button cells - it can take AAs as well!

I tend to take them out, most TF electronic gimmicks are annoying sounds, so those gotta go!

What I don't like though are figures with batteries not included. I understand A-type batteries and so on have a tendancy to leak, which can ruin a MSIB toy.

But you know what, when I got the wall mount for my TV it came with a stud finder. The batteries for said finder were packed like you'd find Benadrill in a box. Molded plastic with a peal off back.

With that in mind, and knowing tnhat batteries don't cost that much. I can't help but wonder why TFs aren't packed the same way, withe the batteries off to the side to keep a stored toy fresh?

That's a good point. But then they don't often do these gimmicks without a putting a 'try me' button on it.

Maybe lately, cause electronic gimmicks a fewer and farther between...

However that still doesn't change the fact that I have bought plenty of Transformers that have not had a "TRY ME" window, and have run off batteries.

Some examples are and are not limited to...

BW Optimal Optimus
BM JetStorm
RID Optimus Prime
RID Ultra Magnus
RID RailRacer
RID those two cycle guys
Armada, well any fig that had and electronic gimmic
Energon, same thing but now we gotta buy our own!?!(excluding Megatron Scorponock and Unicron)
Cybertron, same deal.

Yeah so you can see how I initialy wanted to go fig by fig, but there are to many to mention. However most of which had noi such thing as a try it now window in the packaging.
