Need advice for how to clean/restore G1 with flood damage

Postby GreenPhoen1x » Sun Jul 22, 2018 2:55 pm

So my collection of G1 toys were unfortunately in river flood waters for weeks. I was able to save all of them and the loose parts, but I'm not sure how to get them back into good condition.

I need to remove the caked-on dirt and ideally disinfect them. I expect to use a soft brush, like a makeup, paint, or small tooth brush, but I don't know what cleaner to use that's safe.

Some of the stickers were destroyed, but others look like they survived fine. Is there a place that sells replacement stickers if I end up wanting to do that?

I also think some of the screws may be rusted, but I don't know if it's possible to replace parts like that? What's normally acceptable or recommended for a restoration situation like this?

I appreciate any advice you all can give me for how to save them.

Thanks

As far as cleaning goes you've got the right idea, a brush is best so as not to wear the plastic. If they're still wet then don't be afraid to give them a good rinse first, maybe wash them with ammonia to disinfect and hit them with a blow dryer, but not so close that they'll melt!

Replacement stickers can be found for many figures at ToyHax.

Screws may not be salvageable, but if it's only light rusting try to remove them, get the rust off with a brush, and seal them with a clear metal sealer on the head so they don't rust back up.

Hope that helps.
