Duke of Luns wrote:A good comparison would be original Gundam to Gundam SEED. Gundam SEED took a lot of elements and basic plotlines for the first half of the show from the original series(though it did have more than a few divergences), but was overall met with a resounding kinda meh by fans. Why? Well, fans had more or less seen it all before, and it didn't engage fans the same way the original Gundam did. The second half was better received, because it introduced a lot of new ideas and plot points that didn't mirror the original Gundam as much.

You forgot about Robot in Disguise. It wasn't a part of UT. Maybe it's a 4th Generation alonside Beast Wars II and Neo?Sabrblade wrote:All the known generations in chronological order:

4. The Unicron Trilogy (2002-2006)
5. From 2007 onward, it's hard to tell where the fifth one ends and where the sixth one begins, or even if the fifth one has even come to its end yet, since we've been going from 2007 to the present with movie after movie plus additional series on the side of and in between each of them, such as Animated, Universe, Generations (which itself has undergone various phases on its own), Power Core Combiners, Prime First Edition, Prime Robots in Disguise, Prime Beast Hunters, and soon the upcoming new Robots in Disguise line in 2015.
I lumped it in with the Beast Era since its new mold toys used mostly the same kind of engineering as the toys of that era. Not to mention its retaining of theTurboMMaster wrote:You forgot about Robot in Disguise. It wasn't a part of UT. Maybe it's a 4th Generation alonside Beast Wars II and Neo?

Even though the Predacons are from well before the Beast Era?

So what you're saying is, because RID had Predacons, it has to be lumped together with the Beast Era. But then shouldn't we lump every series with Autobots or Decepticons in with G1, if that were the case?

Not when Car Robots is as much G1 as the rest of the Beast Era. And the majority of the Predacon toy molds were Beast Era molds to begin with.Shadowman wrote:Yes, I did, because that's a silly reason to lump two totally unrelated series together.

You seem to be only taking the fiction into account, rather than both the toys and the fiction together as I am.

So did Beast Wars II, yet that line was unquestionably not part of the G1 or G2 eras.Shadowman wrote:They also reused a number of molds from G1 and G2.
How about the fact that G1 era ended in 1992 when it was replaced by the era of Generation 2? And that Car Robots/RID didn't exist until long after that era was over in 2000/2001, which was the tail end of the Beast Era's reign right before the era of the Unicron Trilogy? And that it came about in the same manner as Beast Wars II and Neo with Japan needing a third filler line until the next big thing would come later? And that all of its original molds are essentially a continuation of the same engineering that went into the Beast Wars Neo, Transmetal, and Transmetal 2 molds? And that the Destrongers are basically the same kind of Destrons as theShadowman wrote:So if you have a reason for RID being part of the Beast Era, that can't also be used to make RID part of G1, then please, I'd love to hear it.

It could be the dialog. There's something... let's say magical... about the words being spoken. The take on it by the actor/director might be different than yours.
Also it can make it feel more like it's come to life.
At least that's my theories.

most kids would answer "a truck".
and that would be right since the optimus primes of that last few series, movies included, turned into trucks.
As a matter of fact, outside of the "beast" shows and maybe the playschool. show, Optimus has always been a truck.
so how would this show teach them anything about that?
