One thing I've noticed ... when I first log on I click on "View new posts", this gives me all the threads that have had posts to them since my last visit.

Thing is, there are still threads/posts that are both read and un-read still showing up. This started the other day when you had to clear out all the user logins.

Not a major issue, just putting it out there.

Some subscribed threads have not sent notifications in the last 24 hours. Not sure if this is relevant for ya, but thought I would mention it. I'll let you know if this thread notifies me after a reply.

The notifications are kind of odd on phpbb. If you haven't visited the topics after X amount of time, it quits sending notifications until X amount of time has passed. This is to help prevent users perceiving email notifications from phpbb as spam.

In other words, you might need to revisit those topics again so that it starts sending you notifications again.

Hopefully all of the changes I've made have made over the past month or so have made Seibertron.com a better working online home for all of you. Having all of you participating in our community is what brings a smile to my face!

Have you tried to force your browser to refresh? I think I have PHP pages set to cache for 1 to 3 seconds before your browser must revalidate. I might need to disable this though if you guys are having problems with the forums. It's not a major issue, but I'd like to have all of these "bugs" worked out. It seems like it's working fine for me. You can test it by going to search.php?search_id=newposts , look over the list to see what's there, then logout, log back in, go back to search.php?search_id=newposts and you'll only see topics that have had new posts since your last login.

Just closed out my browser entirely, reopened it, went back to the new posts and it showed me what has been posted in the couple of minutes since the browser was closed.

Funny thing is, I've never once clicked on "view new posts". I'll have to start using that option to see what's going on. Might find some new threads to participate in!

How to get the 207 guests to participate??? They're here, they're lurking! We're going to have to figure out how to bribe them to get them to register and start posting.

I just jumped on at work, found I couldn't connect (sent e-mail), reloaded, started working. Come to the forums, had been logged out (might explain the 200 guests). Logged back in.
Still seeing "new" posts from two days ago, even after force refreshing.

I've been off just a few hours, but only received one notification (6:22 PM CDT, if that helps) of a new post in a thread. (I visited all the threads this afternoon that I usually frequent.) I didn't get any notifications from this thread after I posted. We'll see what happens here on out, and I'll check the forum threads I visit to see if anything new came in since this afternoon.

I received a couple of notifications since I posted this, but not one from this thread. I'm going to try to reset the subscription. That has solved it for me individually in the past. If no one else is having this issue (like, are you seeing notification from these posts?) then it's probably something unique to me or my accounts.

Spent the last 4 or 5 hours working on getting a IP Address Banning system setup on the server. I did something last week that screwed up the package that handles this on the server. I didn't know it was a package available to install with the web hosting program on the server, I manually installed it, the version I installed turned out not to be compatible with the web hosting program on the server, so when I went to install it the proper way, it wouldn't install, which is how something simple turned into a 4 or 5 hour ordeal tonight).

Whew.

So with all of that said, it's working now and banning IP addresses that are from SPAM bots or are attempting to brute force attack the site or are known malicious bots that are harvesting email addresses, names, or other information. Now that I've got all of the other issues resolved from the past 2 weeks, I was able to see through the muck when something malicious was happening on the server earlier tonight. Hopefully this will take care of this problem and hopefully it won't be too greedy by banning good IP addresses.

I meant to mention that part of the reason I implemented the IP ban last night was because some people were getting the "too many connections" or "unable to connect" database errors last night so I decided enough was enough against the spam bots and the rest of the like.

According to Norton (https://safeweb.norton.com/report/show_mobile?url=seibertron.com), the following single page on Seibertron.com was reported as having a phishing attack on it but doesn't provide any additional information to help me resolve the problem.

After registering myself and Seibertron.com with Norton, I have disputed the report and requested that they re-evaluate it. Please let me know if it is still flagged as having a problem in a few days.

Yep they took care of us after reanalyzing the site and collecting my personal information probably so that they can send me emails and such to get me to pay for their services!

Yes and no. It's definitely a labor of love but it's not the easy peezy job that I get the impression a lot of people in our community come across as thinking it is. This article sums up the joys of being self-employed pretty well that I think a lot of people don't think about with self employment.

The greatest joy I get from all of this isn't Transformers, or Seibertron.com or taking pictures of toys. There are too many actual work / self employed things that go along with all of that to make me question my sanity about taking all of this on. However, the greatest joy is having the flexibility with my schedule, regardless of how many hours a week are required, getting to spend time with my wife and daughters when opportunities come up that I wouldn't get if I was working a traditional 8/9am to 5/7pm job with a 2 hour roundtrip commute.

One of the things I joke about that is awesome about being self employed: I'm the only idiot boss I have to deal with everyday!
