I'm actually starting to prefer my Classics UM with the City Commander add-on. My CW Leader UM's left shoulder ratchet is already gone.

Yeah, of course you are right. That's why they havent remade a voyager megatron or a deluxe G1 starscream or a deluxe rodimus, we already have those from classics. And if they make another one, it wont replace the other one necessarily. I mean they are redoing trailbreaker for some reason, does he really make the previous Trailbreaker obsolete? They are BOTH generations.
Yes, it does make it obsolete if it is a better mold. Are you telling me that you are keeping a 2008 Classics Ultra Magnus over the new one? Did you scoff at the new Voyager Silverbolt in favor of the Ultra Class 2008 mold? Are you ditching your 2006 Rodimus in favor of the new legends one? Are you really going to keep that UGLY 2008 Ironhide mold over the Offroad mold? And I am willing to wager your GDO Springer was kicked to the curb the moment your Voyager figure was in hand.
I am not ditching my 2006 rodimus over this new one, guaranteed. And I am not ditching my classics seekers and megatron over the new stuff we are getting this year. How about you?
And I own neither Ironhide and wont buy the new one. Ironhide has a window on his chest, not a combiner peg. I would preffer the universe mold over the new one if I was given either for free. Also, I will never ditch my Universe Onslaught. Combiner Wars onslaught will be part of Bruticus but Universe onslaught will still be there, battling it out against any autobot dumb enough to approach him.
Also, the GDOs were never intended on being the ultimate version of whatever character they were called, they were just fun repaints akin to what funpub does, for an exclusive market. Hence why Hasbro initially didnt concieve them for the american market. I never counted them as CHUG unless you would count club figures as CHUG (which some do, I dont, personal preference).

You are missing the point. The point is, buy what you want, but if you think you are going to convince me that some of these shoehorned figures are viable representations of a Classics figure that is not going to happen. And if you are going to have a standard of shoehorning, then why discriminate?

shockblast2, in reply to my last post wrote:Hey, buy what you want.
Thank you, I shall.
shockblast2 wrote:If you want a midget Brawn or Beachcomber with a crappy transformation next to your real Bumblebee or Windcharger that is your choice.
Indeed. As it is your choice not to have them. But you took it another level, acting as if the already produced toys didn't exist in the first place, and Hasbro just had to make toys of those characters or your life wouldn't be complete.
shockblast2 wrote:My point is why stop there? Hell, forget a legends Reflector, just buy three minicons from the Shrapnel set and be done with it.Who cares if it the size of a dime and has no detail. While you are at it, grab a DOTM Shockwave and shoe horn that in too.
Re: Reflector. First of all, is Hasbro even working on a new Reflector? Honest question. If they are, I must have missed that tidbit. Secondly, you are perfectly correct that a targetmaster sized single figure is not the ideal Reflector. Am I using him as my collection's Reflector? No. The biggest issue, of course, being that to me, Reflector is made up of three individual robots. Still, that all being said, the targetmaster figure is a nice homage, and I enjoy having it in my collection as a freebee that ccame with Shrapnel.
Re: DOTM Shockwave. The answer to this one is simple. That is clearly a Bay-verse Shockwave, and would not fit in with my collection. Oh, but I am sure that you intended this as a rebuttal of Seaspray. But that Seaspray toy was released in the Transformers (2010) toy line, which also included such wonderful and undisputedly Classics style toys as Jazz, Red Alert, Scout Class Windcharger, Grapple, Tracks, or the G1 repaint/remold of Unicron.
And while the Seaspray toy in particular is questionably a part of the movie line, it is not entirely clear and there is in fact evidence that it was intended as a Classics style toy.
TFWiki wrote:The question of which continuity Sea Spray belongs in is the center of quite some confusion among the fandom. At Toy Fair 2010 and in the March 2010 answers to tfwiki.net's questions in Hasbro Q&A, Hasbro representatives were adamant that Sea Spray is the same character as Generation 1 Seaspray, being a Classics-style upgrade of the Mini Vehicle placed in the attribute-less 2010 Transformers toy line because they felt he should be a Voyager-sized toy, and the Generations line (the torchbearer of the Classics aesthetic at the time) was limited to the Deluxe size class. His on-packaging bio, however, pits him against Crankstart, a redeco of Revenge of the Fallen Dune Runner. With Crankstart appearing in an issue of Titan's Transformers comic magazine, this places him (and, by extrapolation, Sea Spray) in the live-action film series universe, or at least a micro-continuity offshoot. Furthermore, Sea Spray is included in the Japanese Unite for the Universe comic, which is also set in a version of the same universe. Conversely, in December 2010's Q&A, Hasbro stated that "Seaspray" and some other 2010 yellow-carded toys "do not exist in the movie world". Furthermore, TakaraTomy designer Alex Kubalsky posted design drawings of Sea Spray on his Deviantart account, referring to the toy as "Classic Seaspray"... while the art itself is clearly marked as a "TF Movie 2" design. Should these comments by Hasbro and Kubalsky be filed under authorial intent? You decide!
Is it the ideal Classics Seaspray? Perhaps not. I even said, of the three, it is the one I'd mind the least if a new one was made. But for now, it fits very nicely into my Classics style collection.
shockblast2 wrote:Forget the Generations Arcee, just pickup an animated one.
Well, for a number of years, I was using that figure. And, with the help of a new head, for a number of years she was a decent stand in. But, two things: First, unlike, say, Brawn and Beachcomber, Animated Arcee was not designed to be a Classics Style G1 Arcee. They are two separate characters! Second... Well, before I get to the next point, let me look at the next thing you said.
shockblast2 wrote:Why did you buy the new legends Cosmos? Just keep the old one the size do a quarter from 2008!
Ah. I think I am seeing what you have seemed to have missed. (And this would have also been the second point I would have had regarding Arcee.) I never said Hasbro can't make new versions of characters they have already done, and I also never said that if the new version was better, I wouldn't pick it up. (Although if the new version isn't better... Well, let us just say that I'm sticking with the Scout Class Windcharger.)
What I did say was that, for some of the figures you were insisting Hasbro still needed to do (which, if you will forgive me, seems to imply very much that you are under the impression they had never been done before), they had been done. Maybe not to your satisfaction, but they had been done. So, while Hasbro is certainly free to redo them if they wish, I think their resources would be better spent bringing us other characters.
shockblast2 wrote:Why have I been so stupid!
I'm not touching that one, least I unnecessarily draw out any animosity.

shockblast2 wrote:You say this about me, but you are the one who posted to two different people that you think a Legends brawn and Beachcomber fits in with the current line of figures.
Because I think that they do fit. Are they the greatest? Maybe not. Will I buy new ones if Hasbro makes them? Maybe I will. But for now, those holes are filled, I am content with that, and I have other holes I'd rather see Hasbro work on rather then repeating things they've already done.

My response here isn't stoking the "debate fire", just my opinion...
But I know I'm not alone in this, so here's my two cents:
As already mentioned by someone else, I will NOT be getting any new Rodimus.
The Classics version is awesome, and will be very very difficult to top.
Probably even more than that,
without even seeing the new version of Ironhide, if the Offroad mold is used,
I will say now it is not BETTER than the 2008 version.
Even with the issues that figure had, the bot mode was spot-on... Especially the overall bulk, which really helped capture the look of the character.
As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm really only going after CW Decepticons.
But either way, knowing that some of the old characters are being released with some of these molds we've already seen, I have such a difficult time believing ANY of them will be BETTER than what's been available in the past.
They may be good, or even great... But to be hands-down, decided-by-the-masses better...
I'm not a stubborn person. In fact, everyone here wants better and better releases, and of course, I'm more than open to that.
Just seems to be a bit of a stretch to say these new CW versions will be BETTER molds than the ones the Classics lines gave us long ago.

Does anybody actually want a Soundwave from the Optimus mold? I've seen lots of people saying they think it will happen but no real opinions on that.

Speaking for myself personally, I don't think I can improve upon the Soundwave I currently use with my Classics style collection.

That being said, I know it is a Soundwave not a lot of people have or can get... So if Hasbro can make a new one, and make it good, then awesome. I don't know if that can be done from the Motormaster / Optimus mold... Maybe? I hear he looks a bit like that in the comics these days, but since I don't read them, I wouldn't know.

Soundwave will be a new mold that will be retooled into Onslaught, much like they turned Prime into Motormaster.

Is that just speculation on your part? Because, even though this is just speculation too, I thought it was pretty much accepted that Hot Spot would be remolded into Onslaught?
