why do so many despise movie Prime's cybertron form?

I mean, I even brought that up as Prime's original form... thats what it was... and then someone said I was emphasizing that point too much... I never understood that.

Why is his Cybertron mode so crap to his earthen mode? Is it because he's not blue and red? Does he look too dull? Why is Protoform Prime despised so much (or not liked as much as I thought he would be)?

Weapon: Air Rifle
Well, he turns into a stasis pod thing. Or, more accurately, a big space rock.

Not exactly what I call ingenious.

And I seriously doubt that's his Cybertronian form.

Why would Megatron be a space jet, and then all the other's flying nuggets of poop?

They are the cybertronian forms as I saw them in the prequel comics.
They just can't turn into jets, that is all.

I think why many prople don't like him is because one look at protoform, and they will have an idea how he transforms. The transformation is lame.

So after all the effort put in to make the movie characters as realistic as possible, they think alt modes that are basically rocks are really realistic for an advanced alien race?

Again, FAIL.

I look at the CGI model of the space truck. It does look intricate enough! They even draw these models and compared them to humans sizes.

In the end, it is just a matter of opinion on how you define
an advanced race.

He's awesome. I wish they made toys for all the protoforms.

He's a cybertronian truck. Who knows what his *job* use to be (let's not forget even Transformers have jobs, in every incarnation). Perhaps going to planets *secretively* was part of their job. We didnt see a full body shot of their vehicle forms, but I see no problem with it being the shape it is.

I love Protofrom Prime too. But I think there is room for development. More details, better transformation.

I don't care about realistc Prime looks as a Cybertronian, I just think the fig is pure ugly. And transforms into a space rock. It could be a Cybertronian rock of destruction and death, but to me its just a space rock.

Not cool.

ROFL! This thread is funny. C'mon guys! Some of you are getting very confused here. Protoform Prime's alt. mode as depicted in the movie and action figure is NOT his Cybertronian vehicle mode. I thought everyone knew that but apparently not. His Cybertronian vehicle mode is never shown, the alt. mode shown is just the mode he uses to enter Earth's atmosphere. The writes made that very clear in several interviews. The whole point is that they can reconfigure themselves at will, we saw Frenzy do this quite a bit. The best way to get through the atmosphere is in the shape of a comet so they change their shapes to match a comet, but rest assured those are not their main vehicle modes. Megatron didn't need to change forms because he was already an interstellar jet, but Prime wasn't.

I am talking about bot mode. The bot mode IS his cybertronian mode, based on what is seen in the prequel comic.
Regarding Alt mode, we all know it is something to enter atmosphere. Then again, the Alt mode can be up to your imagination. What about Starscream? Starscream's alt mode is depicted as the interstellar jet in the prequel novel. There is a plot hole there.

It's his PROTOFORM. It's not meant to have any specific mode or shape, it's only function is to serve until he can find a new alt mode. What his robot mode looks like as a protoform is not what he would look like on Cybertron with a different alt mode.

Having the protoforms in the movie was just an easy "blank state form" for the director to give them a little scene of changing into their new Earth forms, that way they didnt have to deal with questions about why the Autobots looked a certain way, before landing on Earth.

I think that the bots were made to look like their protoforms in the prequel comic for character recognition purposes, or perhaps because of design issues (movie people didnt want more forms created for their characters).
It wouldnt make sense for the bots to look like thier protoforms on Cybertron, as their Cybertronian alt modes would have influenced their Cybertronian robot modes, much like their Earth alt modes influenced their Earth robot modes.

That and as an excuse to make very bland looking toys.

I dont mind the idea of protoforms. I like that in the movie that the "comet" forms were highly detailed, but this was not translated into their toy forms, which were lumps of blue-grey and bronze plastic.

Don't get me wrong, I think Protoform Prime's robot sperm mode is poorly designed too, but I love his robot mode so much I would recommend his figure just for the robot mode for display. I think this is the robot mode he used on Cybertron - although he would definitely have used a different vehicle mode.

Do you like his robot mode at all? (just curious)

I can understand that people who hark back from G1 will probably dislike the almost organic, very foreign original look of this Prime. I don't seek to change their opinions. I just never though he would be hated so.

To me, he is not as dazzling as Cybertron Prime in super mode (which is an awesome mode), gives no nostalgia like MP Prime, nor has as much play value as Energon Prime.

In terms of originality, though, I'd rack up some points to him.

I'm with Raymond on this one. I love ProtoPrime. True, his alt mode is...well, odd...but as it has been stated before, that's the mode for atmospheric entry. It could definitely have used some more detailing, but for a Deluxe figure that's supposed to resemble a comet, I think it does a fairly good job.

As for the robot mode, well, it just rocks (hehe, no pun intended) as far as I'm concerned. An amazing amount of articulation and poseability for a Deluxe. Hell, it can hold a better pose than most of the Voyagers. I never read the Prequel comic (trying to find new English comics in Taiwan can be an adventure) so I don't know how accurate it is to the comice version, but for me, it looks wicked cool. It has a definite Prime feel to it while still giving an alien vibe.

And I think the choice of orange light piping for the eyes was a really interesting descision. First time I've seen a Prime with orange eyes...and you know, I really like it on this Prime.

The orange eyes fit well on this Prime man.

I actually have no problems with his robot mode at all. In fact I was thinking about getting the figure because of Ryans pics of the robot mode.
And as I said, I like the idea of the protoform. The alt mode is something I am not fussed on. Especially as it is in no way a decent representation of what Prime's Protoform was in the film. The colour and design of the alt mode were very disappointing, the chunky wheels in particular.
The protoform was a very good indication of what the Movie line will be remembered as: decent interpretations of the "alien" movie designs, with horrible paint apps.

I personally feel much of the hate of the figure does lean towards the alt mode, and as we all know, to be a good transformers figure, you really need to have (at least) 2 decent modes.

Agreed and agreed.

Your quote 'decent interpretations of the "alien" movie designs, with horrible paint apps' breaks my heart. Not because it's wrong, but because it's probably right. Not to mention a slew of figures with wasted potential *cough Megatron cough Blackout cough*

I guess I'm just fine with the representation of Protoform Prime in his robot mode. His alt mode is probably the reason why Transfans think of him little more than a horny grey Autobot.

Well, obviously you don't all know it because there's a bunch of people in this thread complaining about Prime's alt. mode being a "space rock".
