Not really. You can have an opinion, good or bad. In the end, the box office speaks for itself.

I have never really agreed with eberts reviews. Like most critics they feel their word is gospel. I feel that he can take the fun out of anything, and not just regarding transformers. I may be way offbase but it seems as though his current medical conditions have made him a little bit embittered in general and he is harsher on a movie than he would have been 3 or 4 years ago.

I think most critics are too out of touch to be trusted. I mean, most of them don't want to be entertained, they want to be impressed. So they nitpick it to death instead of just asking themselves "did I have a good time while watching it?"

That's how I can enjoy the Street Fighter movie (not the recent one, mind you). I know it's a piece of crap cheesefest of a movie, but I can enjoy it. (Any Bay haters who wish to argue and say that the previous sentence is also how I can enjoy TFTM should understand I think it's a generally great movie for which I do not have to lower my expectations.)

ebert didn't like robots fighting was one of the reasons he didn't like it.

Exactly! Never rely on a movie critic to make up your mind for you, whether it be a good review or a bad one. The only one that knows if you are going to enjoy it or not is you. Plus movie critics typically don't look for what an average movie goer looks for. They love "The English Patient" but hate "Transformers." I am the exact opposite because I am looking at very different things that what a movie critic may.

Frankly Robinson, that’s all I get from you is that you don’t care…I wish I could feel like you, but I do care (obviously too much) that’s why it’s so tuff knowing the TF movie series is gonna be trash that’s forgotten 10 years from now, but it probably deserves it…Don't read the MSN review because it's too much for certain members to handle I would suspect...

Is it wrong of me to not care what others think? You have your own opinion of the franchise, and I have mine. I can read reviews all day long good and bad and you know what I will say at the end of the day? "They just dont look at things the same way I might." Yeah the new movies not getting the best word of mouth or review, so what. Its up to each individual fan to decide for themselves if they like it or not. Thats what a "real" fan does, they use their own brain for what its meant for.

I dont put much stock into people telling me what I should or should not like. To you that may seem that I don't care about the franchise but to me its knowing that the movies sole purpose is to attempt to entertain me for 2-3 hours and if it does, then it's done the job approriately.

You know, it must be hard for somebody like Ebert who relies so much on providing opinions to no longer be to articulate his thoughts through everyday conversation. Writing reviews may be one of his last outlets to express himself. I have to sympathize for him.

That said, I almost never agree with anything Ebert writes, and sometimes I wonder if he's still in touch with the modern world. But, he is still a great writer, and far more capable of expressing his opinions than most movie critics (cough cough New York Times cough). Generally, I get the sense movie critics are more concerned with cinema as "art" and not as a fun way to spend an evening.

Also, Ebert referred to Jetfire as Starscream. FAIL.

Ebert's criticisms were pretty fair in my mind. ROTF is a case of Michael Bay given the keys to the car and then driving it off the cliff. At least there was a huge explosion at the bottom!

**Bad job by Ebert and his editors not catching the Starscream/Jetfire mistake.

Ya, you do care to much. Sorry to break it to you, but TF was all but forgotten buy everyone except the "Hard core fans" until the movies came out. I know you'll never except that, but it is what it is.

I haven't seen the movie myself, but i like many here, don't give a crap what critics say. Some Else said it right, that all there looking for meaning and art in all movie today. If that is isn't present then they don't like it. I respect his opinion, but i won't let it sway me from going to see this movie. I have my own mind,and own expectations.
I understand that this is a 2 1/2 hour long toy commercial just like the the original series was, just like the 86'movie, just like the animated series as so on. Its not the next citizen Cane, or Slum dog millionaire. I don't want it to be. I want it to entertain, make me laugh, and have kick ass explosions and fight scenes. Can't wait till this Saturday!

@5150 Cruiser - Dude for the life of me I just don’t get how u (and soooooooooo many others) still equate critics or fans dissing a movie for plot or characters as us wanting some “artsy” film or something…This has to be the most misunderstood point of the entire debate…Roger Ebert actually gave the first film 3 outta 4 stars, yet this time around he wants the movie to be “Slumdog”? Can you explain to me why so may people use this as their default argument against people who just want a plot that makes sense or a memorable confrontation or dialogue moment that isn’t part of the uber action?

I mean critics went down the middle on TF1, yet the same critics scorching it now wanted it to be Oscar worthy? This argument is so fail to me…

P.S., 86’ Movie pwns every plot in any Bay movie ever made…

READ what I posted. I don't give a toss what ANY critic says about ANY movie. If the trailers interest me, i'll go and see it and form MY OWN OPINION.

I don't need ANYONE, be it a movie critic or some jumped up over-protective fanboy telling me whether a movie is good or not, i'm more than capable of determining that MYSELF.

So I went and saw TF2, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Respect my opinion, I have to respect your opinions of this movie after all even though I completely disagree with them.

Critics are trained to pick those things out like plot content, character development, and dialog. Yes, those things could have been better and TF1 was better for that overall. TF2 was all about the action and I think a lot of critics are missing that point. It was all about the battles and anction sequnces and blowing stuff up. It is going to be hard to get some meaningful dialog in a movie that is supposed to be all about action. I don't want to see Sam and Mikaela talking back and forth. I want to see Autobot vs Decepticons duking out on the field of battle. Films like these aren't going to be able to get into that deep character development that the critics want. Things like the Twins and the sexual innuendos could have been left out or kept to a minimum, but I still think it was still a great action flick, which it was supposed to have been meant to be.

Maybe in TF3 we will all get this grand masterpiece of a Transformer movie where we get the character development by keeping the number of characters used to a minimum while still keeping core members and introducing new ones, getting rid of the Twins, Arcee bots, and the crude sexual humor (things I thought added nothing to the movie), and get that plot line what we have been looking for but still keeping up the action. Maybe then we will all get what we want of this movie franchise. Until that day comes, I will continue to appreciate what is given to us.

Trust me if Micheal Bay didn’t make this film, I’d probably be more on your side than you think…I don’t always agree with critics, but if a guy says the first 1 is good when lots of critics thought that it was bad to mediocre, then just cans it as shiteous in part 2, how is that same guy some dude who just wanted Slumdog Millionaire plotting or character development?

I’m like you; I watch what interests me...I’m very mature in my tastes meaning I thoroughly understand what I like so no critic is gonna trump my own feelings, but I do listen to “word of mouth” and often read reviews and I find extraordinarily when critics universally praise a movie (whether it be action or drama) it tends to be something I find GOOD aswell (Likewise on the otherside of the debate when they all hate stuff)…But when you bring Bay into the equation that’s a whole ‘nother monster to me…

I’m really not as overprotective as you think, while I have no clue why you wouldn’t call Sam “Spike” I don’t lose sleep over it…Even Starscream my favorite character looking ugly as $hit could be tolerable in a movie that didn’t have so many Bayisms…Maybe if I hadn’t been exposed to his movies I could go into this with a fresher perspective, but when you’ve seen 1 Bay movie you’ve seen them all, and I would have to be betraying everything inside of my adult psyche to ignore the problems his movies ALWAYS tend to have…

Every review I’ve read reiterates the same problems that I have always had with his movies (again since they weren’t TF movies I didn’t care as much)…So I’m not gonna dismiss Roger Ebert or anyone else capable of seeing what I myself have seen countless times from this guy…So yes, I respect you and everybody else who ignores what I find paramount, but damn it’s still hard to swallow...It's not like TF-live movie is ever gonna come out for the first time ever again for me…

Well said. Thanks for the post. I am one of the few that will have to wait for the weekend to watch this movie, so that sucks. I'm not going to let any "critic" tell me what to think before I see it for myself though. That just wouldn't be a good use of my time.

I couldnt care less about what Ebert thinks about this movie, He is after all a movie critic and there not always the best people you want to turn to for films. I and I'm pretty sure the rest of you loved Revenge of the Fallen and I see no reason why these critics are so blunt about films which other people think are good.

Ebert gave Cloverfield a good review, how anyone gives value to his opinion after that is a mystery to me.
