This is old news, its been in the works for years. Cobras in an up and coming stage, and Markie Mark is set to be Duke.

I can already think of 2 things that have stood out in all the rumors I've read that I'd like to see changed.

What I'd realy like to see is the Voltron script get a greenlight!

Think of how much harder it would be to translate that guy to film than GIJoe or TFs!?!

Win or lose, I'd have to sit through that.

When you say "now stands" does that mean it used to stand for something else? I always thought it was just a generic name but I never really liked it that much so I don't know.

Killing stuff :P

i would really think it awesome if we found out the special forces guys from transformers were G.I. Joe

Considering G1 and A Real American Hero exist in the same universe, it would make sense.

I think the bigger problem here is 'what does this mean for G.I. Joe?'
I hope the god they don't make that 'buddy' film about Duke and Action Man. There better be effing Cobra. No Cobra, no Joes, no movie.

Great American Zero, Sommers To Direct G.I. Joe

By: Ryan 'The Rican with the Irish name' McLelland
Source: Variety

Do you hear that? That bell ringing? That is the death bell and it tolls for G.I. Joe.

They said he was "too much money" but now comes the big news: Stephen Sommers is directing G.I. Joe.

Now I needed to change my lament a bit. The recent news was that two scripts were being combined while still having no Cobra in the script, having Cool Dude be the bad guy, and possibly (according to the latest casting rumor) Jason Statham as Action Man - the British version of G.I. Joe.

Now Sommers, known for his craptactular CGI epics like Van Helsing, is onboard. It's reported that execs were sold on his pitch so much that they hired him on the spot. It's also reported that they are hiring a new writer for the project. Does this mean an all-new film? Or does this mean that the new writer is the one bringing together the two films???

The best part about attaching Sommers? They are RUSHING into a February production date.

No script, the scripts they have are horrible, and the guy who casts Arnold Vosloo in movies is directing.

It's as if they just want to crap on my childhood. Thanks Paramount. Thank you very much. You've killed G.I. Joe before it even got off the ground. But I'm sure Cool Dude will be a GREAT villain if you keep him! HUGE! MONSTER! PLEASE INSERT SARCASTIC TONE RIGHT HERE!

From Variety: Paramount Pictures has set Stephen Sommers to direct “G.I. Joe,” a live-action feature based on Hasbro toy line. The studio is hiring a writer immediately, and has set a February production start and a summer 2009 release date.

The accelerated schedule began right after Sommers pitched a version of a film based on the Hasbro toy line to Par topper Brad Grey and production president Brad Weston on Wednesday evening. He was hired in the room.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce with Hasbro COO Brian Goldner. Sommers and his Sommers Co. partner Bob Ducsay will also be involved as producers.

I was never a Gijoe fan I would see it but not like transformers where I saw it 15 times. I am really excited about the new Indiana Jones movie rather than GiJpe. TF2 will kick GiJoe ass.

Well, im not a fan of GI.Joe but i find it absolutely stupid that it may end up beign a piece of crap who happen to look like everything except GI.Joe!

Transformers was at least similar to its original counterpart. The basic was there. The caracter where there.

But Gi.Joe whit no Cobra Commander? :-?
This seem to be a doomed project.

Paramount has commisoned the development of a live-action G.I. Joe film following the success of the 2007 Transformers feature film. The film is being slated for a 2009 release date with Stephen Sommers as the director. Due to the current worldwide political climate, the US-centric nature of previous incarnations has been dropped in favour of an international task force based out of Brussels called Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (G.I. Joe), with the tone of the film said to be similar to the X-Men and James Bond film franchsies.

I get the U.S part dropped and it make sense. But, the rumour of "No Cobra" are simply weird. The bad guys will probably be crappy villain "à la James Bond"! They simpky don't breed terrorist the way they used to!

COBRAAAA*cough*AAA*cough*!

To be honest, even if this movie does push the Transformers sequel back, I don't think it will be a bad thing. Firstly, an extra year will build up the suspense. Secondly, we waited a long time for the first one. We can endure another three years!

Yeah, it will give us time to complain and adapt to caracter design, since some old caracter will have to be redesigned. Aaaah...the good old day when we all whined about the design.

A tie in would be great...especially if the special forces guys from Transformers turn out to be the GI Joe team. The more I saw the move the more I could picture them as the Joe boys.

But then again, who the heck am I? The big boys in the studio don't give a rats a$$ as to what I think about them ruining GI Joe.

Postby nick3425 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 5:53 pm

If There Is A G.I. Joe Movie Then I Do Not Think It Will Afect Transformer 2, But I Think It Will Afect Transformers 3, And (If There Is) G.I. Joe 2. I Think They Will Be Made Into G.I. Joe Vs. The Transformers. :PEACE:

That is the eventual dream, but I'm sure they'll give us Star Wars instead as an atempt to keep that toy franchise alive!

I've been talking with the guys working the retail shelves, and they told me...

TFs, can't keep them on the shelf(as we all know)

GI JOE they have to refill every other day.

Star Wars, the light sabers sell, but otherwise that stuff has been there forever and we keep getting it in?

My point, well, in the end Hasbro will probaly skirt the profitable, obvious, fan demand want for a quick crap ass story to help them clear stock!

G.I. Joe

Postby nick3425 » Mon Aug 27, 2007 2:57 pm

Guess What I Just Read At Wikipedia. The G.I. Joes Might Be French Not American. Wikipedias Words: "Due to recent world events and the international release of the film, the film will feature an international task force based out of Brussels, (with G.I. Joe standing for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity), instead of the US-centric team featured in previous incarnations." Brussels Is In France. WHAT THE F*&^!? :BOOM:

If Guile can be French, surely the Joes can?
I agree that a lot of this seems like changing the story pointlessly, but really this post is too funny. Y'know what else I'm sure you can look up on Wiki? Brussels, geography and Action Force.
I'd still love a live action version of those opening titles though.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

Yes, I laughed at the geography, too. It rather makes nick3425's whole post seem utterly misdirected, doesn't it?
