People attending the Tokyo Game Show in Japan this week got to see a surprise launch of merchandise from apparel maker Games Glorious based around the 1986 Nintendo Famicom (NES) game The Transformers: Mystery of Convoy (Transformers: Convoy no Nazo). The first batch of products made available for pre-order at the show included T-shirts, clear file, a logo sticker set and acrylic mascots based on the game sprites. A second wave of merch coming in December includes a reversable jacket, backpack, cushion cover, keychains and socks. They're also partnering with retailer Thunderbox on exclusive hats and sprite pins.

While it's unlikely that they'll be available outside Japan the prices are pretty reasonable so perhaps they'll be worth looking for on the aftermarket.

  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy T-shirt -Invisible Fear-: ¥4,500 (excluding tax) / Sizes available: M / L / XL / 2XL
  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy T-shirt -Emperor of Destruction Megatron-: ¥4,500 (excluding tax) / Sizes available: M / L / XL / 2XL
  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy Clear File: ¥400 (excluding tax)
  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy Sticker Collection: ¥400 (excluding tax) / 4 types in total
  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy Pixel Art Acrylic Mascot: ¥500 (excluding tax) / 7 types in total (1 type included randomly)

  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy Cap": ¥6,000 (excluding tax)
  • FC version Transformers: Mystery of Convoy Pin: ¥1,200 (excluding tax)

Just another reminder that a lot of Transformers related things from many of our childhoods are celebrating major milestones these next few years. Let us know in the Energon Pub Forums if there's anything similar you'd like to see done outside Japan for other obscure products.

Is it standard in Japan NOT to offer size Small (S)?

---

Edit: Before today, I've never even heard of the 1986 Transformers NES game.

Japanese sizes run smaller than western sizes so their medium is our small, everything else scales from there.

As for the game, I first found out about game emulating back in '97, would download NES ROMs in the high school library (they were the only two computers with the internet), this was one of the first games I downloaded.

It's all relative. Japanese are, generally speaking, smaller frame than big ass westerners. So small frame Japanese miss out on an S size t-shirt.
