25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
- Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
I haven't seen it in person yet, but I have seen it on eBay, Google searches, reviews, etc.
The chest and the trailer colors are enough to ruin it for me. (I wasn't planning on buying it anyway, but they're so bad it sucks.)
Now, hearing that one of the legs happens to be loose on Ryan's? Total pass.
I'm sorry, I just couldn't force myself to spend $70.00 on it, no way, no how.

Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
I'm going to wait a bit for them to start filtering into other collectors hands now. I want to see what other problems may arise.
You'd think that of all the figures released for the 25th, Prime would have been the one that would be of the highest quality.

Well, I can see why they went with a lighter red. I think they were trying to give Prime some anime accuracy.
I would have preferred that they used the standard dark red and the Ipod Convoy head, but that might just be me.

Thanks ryan for another quality gallery and saving myself and some other people $70 bucks although I might pick it up just to keep in box once I see the package in person.

I looked at the gallery, and I have to say I'm really disappointed. The pink chest (and in comparison to the other Optimus figure, it's pink.) and the ugly, almost white trailer is unforgivable. And now that I know it doesn't even have the iPod Convoy head...a total waste to me.
$70.00 stayin' in my pocket for sure. No amount of nostalgia will get me to buy that. I'm sorry, but no.

What color is Roller supposed to be? Blue (U2.0 reissue) or silver (Encore reissue)? Not sure if checking the Marvel Universe bios would do any good, but I can't really check those anyway because that link's been dead since at least October 13. (Know for a fact it's been at least that long, because that's when I got internet turned back on, and I had some figures I wanted to look up the G1 comic versions of there...)
Either way, I think I'd sooner pick up the Encore reissue than it's U2.0 counterpart. Even then, the main reason why is to have a complete G1 Prime...

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

I like the packaging. And since I keep 99% of my TFs MISB, then I guess I'll buy him. But not at full price.
I think Hasbro will still sell thousands of these to all the 30-something year old people (and their parents) who haven't seen a G1 Optimus Prime since 1985 and don't know and don't care about some company called Takara.
As for the best G1 Optimus reissue, I'm really liking the Music Label Optimus Prime with G1 colors. His Masterpiece head, blue tinted windows, and awesome paint job are outstanding.

Thank you, Ryan. I was debating this, but after the gallery and your critique, I'll be passing. My G2 Prime will just have to continue standing proud. Really sad to see Hasbro drop the ball on this one. I know cuts have to be made in hard times, but not on this figure. I skipped Animated Prime as well, I dunno, I'm just in a Megatron phase this year.

Just saw the gallery. Wow! I know Hasbro has been slipping in the QC department but can Hasbro really slip up that bad? Pink Prime? That just made me loose interest in the whole franchise. Maybe I'll just stick with Takara.

They are too expensive(remember what Hasbro TRU Reissues were priced at? No wonder they clogged shelves for 2 yrs.), and overproduced, and I see it happening all over again with this one.
Reissues themselves I don't mind so much. As is the case with the upcoming Cyclonus, I'd be as happy with a new mold as with a reissue (and I've been wanting headmaster/targetmaster figures for a while, so it wouldn't be fair to bitch one way or the other anyway, yes?). It isn't the fact that it's a reissue its that it sounds like Hasbro's gonna screw this one up, which isn't good because we expect better from them.
I'm not saying that it isn't logical to make these, the Battle Convoy mold is one of the most awesome toys of the 20th Century, and deserves to be put in many a museum. But, as an older collector with already numerous Reissues of this figure, it's becoming a wash.
While I agree with the "Don't like it, don't buy it." philosophy, I just hope that this is the only Reissue in the line, or, if they insist on doing them, give us figures that we haven't had yet, i.e. Headmasters, Powermasters and the like.
And, anyone who says that Hasbro doesn't care about the fans simply isn't paying attention, or will never be satisfied. Do I absolutely love everything that Hasbro does? No. But I'm aware enough to know a big fat "Thank You!" when I see it.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

Just a question... Does he already have the stickers on him when you take him out of the box? Or do you have to do that yourself?

Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
I looked through all the galleries and I have to say I really like the new colouring. I actually own 4 primes (G1, classics-voyager, movie-leader, MP-4) but would consider buying this... depending on price... I live in australia so the pricetag is probably going to be HUGE!
I also own Ultra Magnus (G1 and classics-voyager) and have considered picking up the pepsi prime that came out a year or 2 ago... but wouldn't want to pick up every re-issue or re-release... what's the point? Especially if nothing has changed.
Also if I do see this around I would definately consider picking it up for my nephew... he's only 2 and a bit now but this would be a cracker set for him in a year or 2.

So $70 + tax for what is basically TRU edition Prime (which I sold a few months ago on E-Bay) with a new paint job (arguably worse) and a few extras... no thanks. I'll stick with my Encore Prime.
EDIT: Is it just me or does the red on the 25th anniversary Prime look like a lighter version of the red that was on the Movie edition Masterpiece Prime??

Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
Seibertron is right about this one. This reissue is awful, and the price tag definitely does NOT account for quality or pack-ins. The Toys r' us reissue from 02' was better than this toy. Which I believe retailed for $39.99. Theres no way the pack-ins make up that difference.
The voice box by the way, which does feature Cullen, is just his raw voice re-reading a couple of old phrases. There isn't even any of the G1 robotic voice distortion.
I may be alone in my thinking here, but I would have appreciated some upgrades to the original mold. Maybe fix the leg joints, new head sculpt, and if they're so set on accuracy; How about an actual toon accurate color scheme? White thighs, smokestacks, fuel tanks, and grill and bumper. At the minimum blue eyes and a tinted blue windshield.
The collectors who want an original Prime, or close reissue have a ton to choose from, most of which at a better or equal price. They barely did anything to this toy to call it a "special" edition.

Different doesn't always mean bad. Deep red suits Optimus Prime better, but I'll still be getting the Pinkimus deco. It'll make my collection more unique.

Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime review
I may be able to bring a little light to the issue with the color seeing as I am a polymer engineer and deal with this type of thing from time to time.... First off, the trailer from encore appears to have a metallic quality to it, this colorant added into the polymer will create a swirling effect if the mold is not designed properly due to turbulence in the mold.. which this is prevelant in this design from the thin wall sections and 90* corners. When you begin to add this type of colorant it is quite a bit more costly than say.. the flat gray that they seemed to have used for this 25th version. So I have to think it is purely a cost cutting move, maybe a little bit based on swirling and QA. The pink cab.. well that is bad, but the more vibrant a color I.E. encore primes cab.. the more that colorant will cost as well, so getting away with a lighter shade or perhaps a smaller ratio of colorant vs. virgin polymer also cuts costs. I'm not saying it's ok, or maybe this was just a rougue prime that got out, heck I'm just happy I have my encore version...

so badly done, you'd think for the 25th anniversary edition they would have taken more care with it.
