I'm one of those fools that actually bought and opened this toy. I don't mind the coloring. I think it gives this toy character.
Many people are bitching about the money and initially I thought it was expensive too until I started THINKING about it. Hasbro's reissue Prime in 02 cost $40. Since this one is in some people's opinion no-better-to-worse the same price could be applied. The DVD is probably worth $15-$20. I remember buying a copy of Season 1 Vol 1 several years ago for about $20. The comic book is probably worth $5. That's a total of at most $65 and then theirs the voice box. So $70 doesn't seem that bad when you factor all that in.

Now to the DVD issue. I played my DVD today and in the what used to be the 3rd part (they've combined the episodes) there was some weird sound effects in the background. I don't know if they were trying to add new sound effects to the show or it this is just a defective DVD but either way it sucks. Add that to the list of complaints about this product.

That's not actually Hasbro's fault on the DVD. It was taken directly from the Rhino ..."masters". They added sound effects to the episodes. iirc.

I know it's not Hasbro's fault. I didn't mean to imply that they were at fault. They got enough problems;) Thanx for clearing up the sound effects.

The good news is that you have plenty of minty Prime options with that G1 mold. Assuming you want to pay less than $100, you also have Takara Encore or even Pepsi Prime. While the trailer on Pepsi Prime sucks a bit, I love what they did with the reds and blues on that figure coloring-wise.

There is no excuse that is acceptable when it comes to a sad reissue. No wonder Hasbro is going after all the knock-offs; they want to sell them themselves. Optimus Prime has been murdered once again, and so I say so long hasbro, and bite me. :-x

Something tells me you haven't bought your last Transformer and by the way, did you even buy this one? If you didn't actually blow the $70 then I think you're getting worked up a bit too much.

How they screwed up the gun is they add a handle or something to the back of the gun where as encore and the original didn't have this so it would fit all the way into his hand unstead of fitting only part of the way in. I'm sure someone who owns both figures can post a picture of the guns side by side.

Uhh, bud, the original had that handle as well. The Takara Encore reissue has a new rifle based on his cartoon and MP version.

As you can see, only one version of him had a gun that he could hold straight.

Here's how I feel they could have done better.

1 - Deco should have been darker. I don't mind shorter smokestacks, but the deco should have been darker. Wether or not the red comes off as pink depends on the lighting, but I can confirm that even with my room's lighting G2 Prime is quite a bit darker than 25th Anniversary. The darker deco thing is true for the trailer also; it should have been a true gray, not a light gray (which was very nearly white when I saw it at Wal-Mart today).

2 - Is Roller supposed to be silver or blue? The back of the box has Roller painted silver; the actual toy is blue. It does say "product and colors may vary" on the bottom left of the back of the box, but Roller is silver (or maybe white) when he appears on the MTMTE DVD as well.

3 - Use the Encore release weapon. It's a lot better than the better known version (which even Pepsi Convoy has).

4 - Package the comic inside the box, not under the flap. Just as transformers_man said on page 8 of this thread:

transformers_man wrote:i was at walmart today and saw these on the shelf boy was i disappionted its not worth 70 dollars and the comic book is a flap attached w/ velcro you gotts be kidding me .... glad im gettin one for xmas :P

I'd actually describe it as being something akin to the comic packs done for GI Joe and Star Wars; the comic is "blister-carded" (for want of a better way to put it) to the flap.

I've seen several of these at multiple WalMarts in he past couple of days and boy howdy are the colors just OFF. I was prety surprised, as I haven't see Hasbro make a coloring mistake like this on a reissue before; I'm having trouble imagining the switched color was on purpose.

The plastics color swirling issue mentioned above makes some sense as a reason for the changed trailer color, but I'm not sure why hey made he change to the robot.

I'm sure this issue will be visited in an upcoming Q&A session, but my guess is this mistake might be related to the imploding Chinese toy manufacturing industry....

Got a chance to see one at the Wal-mart near me. Absolutely horrible. The colors are off, the extras are throw aways and the price is absolutely ridiculous.

The best thing about this toy is the packaging box.

Pretty epic fail, Hasbro. Optimus Prime is the most recognizable and arguably the most beloved to not only the hardcore Transformers fans but to a lot of kids who grew up in the 80's. The fact that this isn't a simple "re-release" but to tag it as the premium release of a figure that celebrates 25 years of Transformers history and have it be anything less than the best quality is just saddening.

Hopefully Hasbro will hear the fan backlash on this one and fix the minor color problems with the mold and the later shipments can have this. Then the early adopters will have a "rare" release so they won't feel burned either and everyone wins.

The only mistake I felt they made with the extras is what I was talking about last time; they blister-carded the comic under the flap, instead of putting it inside the box. (The book itself is reprinted the same way the comic packs for GI Joe and Star Wars are done...) I dunno if they could have done it in such a way that you could lift the flap and see the comic, but they could have still done something better than stick it under the flap like that...

All good thoughts but in my humble opinion they should've

1)not only done right by the decos but gave him New Year Convoys windows and axe.
2) Encores' gun.
3) IPOD Convoy's head

Now that would've been a kick-ass Optimus Prime!

Oh yea

4) Take G2 Prime's voice box thingy, paint it silver and the insignia red, but Cullens voice saying "I am Optimus Prime" and "Autobots, transform and roll out" and the transforming sound in it and add G2 Prime's missile launchers.

1) I was okay with the windows, but I would like the axe too.
2) I mentioned the Encore release gun...
3) Like the iPod Convoy head too.
4) My complaint about the sound thingie that came with 25th Anniversary is that there should have been more Cullen. At least it actually was Cullen this time, not whoever it was that did the Movie 20th Anniversary Masterpiece thingie... (I wouldn't have bought Masterpiece Opimus to begin with, but that stand was what really killed him for me.)

I'm not thrilled with the off colors, but I could live with them if the price weren't so high. I'll buy it if it comes out somewhere for $30. There are piles of these guys at my local Target, maybe an after-hoildays sale will do the trick.

The price has been my #1 whine about this release as well. It's good to have a complete Optimus, but it's just not worth the $69.99 MSRP.
