k to be fair spiderman 3 and the next harry potter movies are sequels, and generally they make a little more because people have seen the earlier movies and since transformers isnt a sequel some people are on the fence because they havent seen what the movie may be like.

Yeah, so the movie still is terrible. If it was a success (financially) it would be doing Spiderman or Harry Potter type numbers. It aint. Instead it's breaking all those "Weekday" figures no one's ever heard of. It hasn't broken a single regular release number yet. In a week's time, it just barely broke 100 million domestically. Next week, with our ADD, no one will care or remember.
And then, Harry Potter. For the win. You can not defeat an international fanbase who is eagerly anticipating the last book in a seven part series (being released in two weeks) and thus rabid for anything Potter. The new Harry Potter movie will rake in so much money, it will remind people that well written movies with characters get franchises, and poorly scripted dreck-fests get, well, Godzilla 98 comparisons.
Perhaps if Transformers had shot higher, aimed for a better story, with relatable characters ("Wus up lil Bitches?") people would go back to see it again, making it a bankable franchise, you know, like Harry Potter.
But if this film can't even do those kinds of numbers, what will the sequel (which makes less money) do?
SO its not a success financially because of the fact the fact in a weeks time it will make its entire budget back in the U.S. alone. Then factor in the countries that its not even out yet and then the toys, and then dvd and all other merchandising? If turning a profit on something in a weeks time when some movies don't turn a profit at all means that you arent successful financially then something is wrong with this world.
And this is way to coincidental that I ask where you been and then next post there you are? Are you being a lurker just waiting for your opportunity to whine about bumblebee taking a leak? I hope they put the trypicon character in the next movie and bb pees on it. Hows that for some symbolism.

Edit: As far as I know you still haven't paid to see the movie so your opinion still means ****.

I'd say 75% I mean there was that scene at school with the show and tell

75% of Transformers in a 2 hour and 15 minute movie is still 1 hour and 41 minutes (and 25 seconds) of total robot screentime... which is in itself longer than alot of movies.

Pure coincidence my good sir! I was just checking in, and found this astute prediction, and thought I’d chime in.
As far as commercial gain in relation to “movie goodness,” I’m not one to harp on that subject- however, this movie just isn’t the smash hit they wanted it to be. It’s doing okay business, but not the astronomical numbers Hasbro, Dreamworks, and crew had hoped for. I’d point out a similar misstep film, Burton’s “Planet of the Apes.” There was a film that divided fans of Burton, the original, and Sci-Fi. It also had a pretty awful script, and laughable characters- but it did manage to make around 200 million in the end. SO there’s hope.
Sure the movie will make back its 200 million dollar budget in the next few weeks (that’s including a 50 million dollar marketing campaign) but after that, it’ll just peter out.
Internationally, it will probably do about the same, bringing it to around 400 million in final grosses. Not bad, but no Titanic… or even Finding Nemo for that matter.

YOur idea of laughable characters is different than mine, I feel they were fleshed decently for a first movie that had many toher things to explain aswell.

The internal estimates at Paramount and Dreamworks were $100 million the first week. It's already done that with two days to go. It has the twelth highest four day opening in history. It has a good shot of ending up in the top three grossing films of the year. No one expected any of this.
Also, where did you get the figures for fifty mil on the marketing campaign? It seems like a huge figure, though that may well be including things like the toys, marketing tie-ins, etc., none of which is on the studio's tab. The budget is the amount of money spent on everything, marketing included.
The film is performing well. Trying to spin the opening week numbers to say anything else, at this point, isn't going to work. Next week will be interesting to see, but I don't think anyone will complain if it has the 60-65% dropoff the "threequels" had earlier in the summer, especially with Potter coming out.

All you nay-sayers, doomsday predictors, "movie suxs and is going to flop" folks are in dire need of medication. Zoloft kind of medication. Let it ride, and see what happens and quit **** hoping the movie will bomb. You want more Transformers movies, don't you? If so, you sure have a sh*tty way of showing it. There's TF pride for you...

Well, I went to see Transformers with my wife and her 2 sisters and one of the sister's husband. Aside from me, none of the ladies like TF and the hubby have heard of it but never watched the cartoons nor collect toys. All of us love it. I think this movie has mass appeal and played well to those who are not initiated with Transformers. Not sure where people go the "bad word-of-mouth" from, but from here it does very well indeed.

No, they'll be paying to see toy story 3 and sneaking into it because they don't have the integrity.

I'm convinced that all the haters made up their minds to hate this movie before they had even seen it. It never stood a chance.
I believe in credit where credit is due. The movie wasn't perfect, the designs aren't perfect - but all in all it is still a great action movie, and one of the best all-out action films I've seen in a long time.
This is exactly my point. Hater or not, you shouldn't push YOUR views on the movie and YOUR agenda on other people who aren't transformers fans and get them to not see the movie just because you have some deep-seeded hatred of everything this film has done, is doing, and will do.
When people ask you if they should go see the movie, the correct reply is not "you'll hate this movie because I hate it" nor is it "this movie rocks and it's perfect and if you don't love it you're a stupid lunatic"
The correct answer is:
"Go see it for yourself, and then tell me what you think."

And I'm convinced that the hater-haters (people hating on the haters) have made up their minds about why the haters didn't like it and don't bother to read their reasons for disliking the movie. "They were expecting G1", "Their expectations were too high", "They made up their minds beforehand." No, it's just a bad movie, that's all there is to it. As a former fanboy myself, I know what it's like to like and identify with something so much that we lose all objectivity and feel compelled to defend anything associated with it.
And no one's pushing anything on anyone. The people who didn't like the movie are merely sharing their opinion. If you want to go watch it, great! We can talk about it afterwards and you can give me your opinion.

Exactly. The stubborness emanates strongly from both sides.
I may puke if I hear any more:
--Haha, it's making money so you were wrong!
--You wanted a G1 cartoon!
--You wanted Megs a gun, Optimus an 80's flatnose with no flames or lips, Bumblebee a volkswagen, Ironhide red, Soundwave into a tiny tape player, EVERY first episode G1 guy in movie, etc etc...
Independence Day made alot of money too. Some think it's film-making brilliance. But alot agree it was just cute to look at.
As for "pushing" my views on curious prospective watchers, I do end it with, "Well, it's making money... so you MIGHT like it".
And also as said before, they all seem poopy after that, hearing that it's not really G1. And I'm not talking geeks who own action figures or ever even heard of Armada or Beast Wars here... just guys who remember the old cartoon and movie.
And hating it before seeing it? Bah. I saw it in my head back in February 2007 upon reading the script, which despite lies was pretty much exactly the movie that came out a year and a half later. If that was the script, and it went unchanged, then I already gave it a chance.
If you were allergic to peanuts and someone tried to give you a peanut butter sandwich on the basis that by the time they were done working on it, it'd taste GREAT... it wouldn't matter how much jelly (extreme CGI), marshmallow topping (explosions) or high quality bread (a handful of tossed in tips of the hat to G1) were added... you'd STILL be in physical harm's way from the peanut butter itself (cheesy acting, ass designs, inadequate character airtime, cliche humor).
And then the food preparer would have the nuts to ask you to pay for it, "just to see if you like it first"?
And to make things more preposterous, you hear him working in the kitchen, telling someone, "LOL, I'm gonna' spit in it lol!" (Bay's G1 comments definitely jive on that one).

Ditto. It tried to make sense, but didn't. Even if you hated the movie, you weren't harmed, just annoyed. And let's face it, G1 sucked, and Michael Bay has the right to voice his opinion.
