3P Dinobots - Discussion Thread
- Motto: "A man who wants nothing is invincible."
im hoping this thread is OK, as i know theres lots of 3P dinobot threads. i wanted to have an all encompassing discussion though. theres so many on the market, so i want to be able to discuss them under one roof (so to speak). this thread isnt meant to take over news spots, so please post those kind of things in their respective threads.

SO! with everything out there, what set(s) are you invested in? are you into FOC? neo? MP? combiner?
personally im invested in FP's diaclones, and PX's. the FP dinobots fit the neo aesthetic perfectly for me. and PX is well, FOC. so thats where they go. im also considering going in on TW's combinersaur, but thats a pile of money and i need to see more before i commit.
im also considering jumping on the MP train too. scoria seems like a damn fine figure, but i havent been paying attention to MP side of 3P dino battle. if someone could give me the lowdown on whos doing them, what the scales are and whats actually hit shelves so far, its be appreciated

I'm Planet X all the way, primarily because of Hasbro's Grimlock and the FoC style which is a good "Classics" style for me.
If it wasn't for Hasbro's Grimlock being pretty good after a couple upgrades, I don't see the need for FP or ToyWorld's

true enough. the FOC doesnt primarily have to be among FOC figures, which is their finest point i think. although im not sure i would be "all in" on PX if it werent for them being the first to arrive to the 3P dinobot scene.Mkall wrote:I'm Planet X all the way, primarily because of Hasbro's Grimlock and the FoC style which is a good "Classics" style for me.

I was able to pick up Planet X's Caelus (Swoop) about a year ago because I took advantage of a really sweet deal with it packaged with Genesis. I may end up with the rest of the line but they aren't high priority for me.
When FansProject announced their Dinobots, I was immediately invested. Unfortunately I find myself torn between picking up the exclusive versions with the shiny paint apps and the exclusive Microman figures. So far, I have both versions of Columpion (Sludge). I will proceed to pick up the rest of the retail releases.
FanToys was another "must have" for me, with their line of MP-styled Dinobots. So far I have Scoria (Slag) and love the guy. Blue-colored Soar (Swoop) is en route. Definitely picking up this line, still on the fence about getting the "X" versions.
It's kinda funny, we were clamoring for Dinobots and now getting slammed with them from various companies. Not only that, but variants within each company. This is preventing me from seriously contemplating picking up any other versions at the moment. Well, that and pricing for these guys.
It's worth noting that I like GigaPower's molds as well, but they have yet to be released so who knows how that will work out.
The combiner variants by ToyWorld and GCreation seem alright. MechaForm's line-up looks very amateurish. And Bullsfire's AirStrike (Swoop) just isn't enticing enough. I can live without them.

Re: 3P Dinobots - Discussion Thread
i'm all into the FT train. i did order columpio at first, but sold him after i got him and cancelled cubrar. they seem good figures, but i'd forgotten about my rule of no duplicate characters between my MP and generations stuff. apart from that, i've also been having some expensive periods so i needed the money

Hasbro’s FOC Grimlock is a piece of crap even with upgrades from 3 different 3rd party companies. I just cant see building a collection centered around an inferior figure. Im going Fansproject all the way for this one. Oversized Grimlock combiner torsos and midget swoops are total fails in my book. I want all my Dinobots to be the same height like the G1 cartoon.

If I do get any of them, it would come down to either completing the FoC set or the MP set. I kinda want to wait until they're all released to see what the complete picture looks like. Obviously, MP Grimlock is superior to FoC Grimlock in every way, but I don't have a problem with the FoC figure, other than the huge tail in T-Rex mode, but on my shelf he never sees that anyway. Who knows, I might get both sets. But those are the 2 I'm interested in.

When I have the money to buy them I'm going PX all the way. Hopefully they'll do a Grimlock themselves (although if they don't I'll just get the HasTak version and the upgrade kits- Iron Factory for the chest/"wings" and Zenith Forge for the weapons).

Planet X's versions are what I'm getting. They fit in perfectly with FOC Grimlock, so that means one less Transformer to buy.

Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

check one of the PX threads, as im pretty sure they stated they would make their own grimlock if they got enough likes on their FB page (or something to that effect).Delta Magnus wrote:When I have the money to buy them I'm going PX all the way. ok. im trying to get a handle one the 3P MP dinobots. if theres prototypes from these companies that im missing, please let me know!
theres fanstoys. theyve done scoria, soar,, and sever. who are slag, swoop, and snarl respectively. and theyre made to scale with MP08 with the help of some booties. which are dumb (imo) but im ok with their size since ill keep them all in dino mode anyways.

then theres bullsfire. theyve only made air strike, swoop.
how will their line scale? are they trying to incorporate MP08, or will they be making their own grimlock? their chrome seems a bit pale...

and then gigapower. who have only made gutter, snarl. these are really big right? and will obviously make their own grimlock eh?

Re: 3P Dinobots - Discussion Thread
I'm mainly a MP collector so I'm all in with the Fans Toys Dinos.
I already have Scoria and Soar, and await Sever to be released as well. I'm also contemplating getting toy deco Scoria using store credit and would LOVE to get the X version as well if funds will allow.
I think I have a problem.

I'm not getting any of the 3P Dinobot sets... not yet, anyway. PX seems to be the one I like most, by default.

Thanks for sharing the comparison pictures, Shajaki. Too bad GCreations' Thunderous wasn't also a part of these pictures. It feels like he's the best looking 3P voyager offering, but there's just not enough information on him yet to make a substantial claim. I have FP's already. I wish either Fans Toys or Giga Power would show their version of Sludge next.
Otherwise, I'll have to find a patch where I can pick up Planet X's last two dinobots (Sludge and Snarl) without starving myself. I feel like TW's offerings will be my least favorite of the bunch.
