So I was watching the movie for the ump-teenth time and i just noticed somthing...

an 8th Constructicon. We know Mixmaster makes the head, Scavenger/Demolisher makes the main body/torso, Overload makes the shoulder region (in the movie at least), Long Haul makes the left leg, Rampage makes the right leg, Scraper makes the right arm and hightower makes the left arm. In the movie i noticed that during Devestator's combination, Hightower conects to make the left arm. Then you see what looks like a bulldozer walking on its front blades and then Hightower slamming into the back of it making up the left hand (awesome scene by the way). THis would make 8 constucticons.
I know in previous interviews of the producers that there was talk of up to 14 constructicons at one point. So maybe this is proof of this. Personaly it doesn't bother me, nor do i see it was any kind of "plot hole". But of all the constructicon talk on the forums, i don't recall this ever being mentioned. If it has, i apoligise. :-B

Yeah there are 8 or 9 vehicles that make Devastator. I think there are 2 bulldozers that make his left leg because there are 3 treads on it, 2 on the foot 1 on the thigh. If you think of him as being made of Constructicons it doesn't makes sense, but if you think of him as one robot and the 8 or 9 vehicles as his alt mode it does.

i is still confuzes cuz mixmaster got cut in half, n rampage got his arms cut off.so yeah i do prefer the origional 6 and the g1 design :???:

Well if you saw how Mixmaster transforms to attach to Devastator, his back goes in, and it is the cab part that turns into the head, even though for the 100 dollar toy, they have the back turning into the head. Haven't seen Rampage, or didn't pay attention to him, but he's the leg, so its very simple on how he transforms. Yeah, G1 would have been so much simpler. Never really got into Devastator after all these new characters came in to become him.

I never cared for the orignal devestator. Hands that just majicaly apeared? Please. :roll:

His design was so cheezy even for the 80's. At least the movie version incorperates the vehicles more instead of just hanging apendages.

Anyway, there may be 9 Constructicons that make up Devastator, we see the seven + another dump truck (which presumably forms a leg with Rampage) + another scoop-loader (bulldozer?). Although apparently there are several Constructicon teams, and there supposedly isn't one specific way to form Devastator (which would be interesting to see explored a bit, different configurations for different tasks).

The second dump truck that we see over the hill with rampage more than likely were Long Haul and Rampage over seeing devestator combining and not the long haul and rampage that make up the legs. The dump truck we see in the construction site is the one that makes up one of his legs.
I agree that it would be interesting to see Devestator formed with different constructicons. Something new and different.

Where did everybody get this multiple constructicons idea? It looked to me like Devastator was just one robot made of several vehicles, not a combiner made of several robots.

The quick answer to your question is one that you provided, Option B. Simply stated, there are a race of Transformers called Combiners that are not limited to one form or method of combining. Needless to say, there are a lot of things that can happen within this and other races of Transformers.

I'm not buying it, that sounds like something Hasbro made up to sell more Devastators. As it is none of them are screen accurate, so they're trying to spin it like Devastator can form any way he pleases.

Yup. Thats pretty much sums it up. Remember, this is a different universe, hense the old "rules" of previous generations of TF don't apply. Is it a ploy to sell more toys? As well as giving Hasbro an excuse to sell individual constructicons and Devestator? Yup and yup. But considering the G1 cartoon wasn nothing more than a 1/2 hour toy comercial, you really can't fault the movie for doing the same thing.

No way, I'm under the impression they just were sitting in alternative mode, but they CAN turn into robots... of course. It's just that you viewer won't see that on-screen.

After all, they were robots when they retrieved Megatron in the abyss. Right?

That's my whole point, assuming they were individual robots is just making something up without evidence. I think that was what they were going for originally, but like Arcee in the first movie, the idea was changed.

There simply isn't any evidence either way in the movie itself.

...although the cement mixer that transforms into Mixmaster on the ship and the cement mixer that transforms into Devastator's head have the same intro (the scene shows the giant Decepticon insignia on the mixing drum and the Decepticon-ified Mack Truck Bulldog), for what that's worth.

Well, there's more evidence to support that the constructicons that formed devestator are "drones" that don't have alternate robot modes, or devestator is one TF made up of several vehicles. Evidence is the constructicons that are fighting in the desert scene while devestator is climbing the pyramid.

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. I thought they just ran outta money and just used old molds for the desert scene to add a more dramatic feel to it as appossed to all those generic decepticons fighting

Sadly, I think recycling is the only plausible theory for me. I don't like the idea of Decepticons being mindless copies of soldiers.

They just probably got lazy/ran out of money&time and reused old models just like Blackout and Bonecrusher.

I think they either revived Bonecrusher and Blackout after Megatron. Or they're different Decepticons who scanned similar vehicles, like how Sideways looks a lot like Barricade in robot mode because they have similar alt modes.

I don't think they revived Bonecrusher and Blackout. Only had one shard left, and that was left for Megatron. So your second theory about scanning similar vehicles makes more sense.

If you look closely, a lot of the Protoform 'Cons had Blackout/Grindor's face, which may mean they simply recycled the robot models. Bonecrusher could very well have just been a cameo; he seems to have gotten a reasonable fan base (including Michael Bay and Force Protection, the company that made Bonecrusher's alt mode).

Here's the way I see it.

The Bayformers DON'T have one single transformation process. Every last nut and bolt adjust for it to transform. So what's to say OP couldn't become a triple changer? (Stupid idea, but aside from the point)

Mixmaster makes Devastator's head, but his face is red right? Why not parts of Overload/Scavenger become the face as well?
With this, this means that a Bayformer combiner could be 2 bots, or 20 bots.

To an earlier post about D's mouth being ripped apart: Why can't the rest of Devastator re-arrange to make a new mouth?
