Well, tomorrow marks the start of the 10th grade for me. And the first day is always the worst day. You dont know how much I dont want to go . Last year was the worst year ever for me, and I would assume the 9th grade is bad for alot of people, but IDK, it just scarred me for life. And nothing really horrible happened, just no friends and I didnt know anyone since my school is 20 minutes away. And the bus rides took an hour. I just wanted to say this, because I just really wanted to get this off of me before I start a new year. So now, I'll have to enjoy the quiet before the shitstorm...which is sleeping, because the next 180 days are gonna be sleepless days and nights. But 10th grade cant be much worse than the 9th grade...can it?

10th grade is pretty fun, a lot more people to meet. Just be yourself, keep to yourself, be happy and don't look vulnerable!

10th was pretty awesome. It's when I started dating (in a non-pathetic way), solidified my lifelong friendships, and got a much broader sense of who I was.

Now, 11th grade? That's when you date some bitch named Mary who gives you Mono and leaves you for some guy working in a grocery store becase he has a pick-up truck.

Well, guess who has two kids and the same pick-up truck now and who's a ballin' ass TF hype man with a Doctor Wife?

Well, I went back to shool today and it wasnt as bad as I thought! Certainly better than last year, but still no friends...like I need them anyway! I can say that I had alot better teachers last year though, I havent seen all my classes yet, but I'll see the rest tomorrow.

When I went in, I thought I'd see the same people I hated last year, they're in my home room, but I dont have classes with them, so now I have a whole new bunch of people to hate!

I was going to jump into the usual "Haha I don't have school anymore hahahah" but I think I can do better than that.

You're going the wrong way, man. During my senior year, I learned to relax, I stopped caring about what anyone said about me negatively, and learned to let everyone else in.

It's intimidating, I know, High School is practically designed to be. But three rules:

1. The best defense for any insult is "Whatever, man," or something along those lines. Don't argue it, don't retaliate, just act like it's the smallest bump in the road and you couldn't care less.

2. Talk to people more. You can't make friends if you don't try. You see someone who clearly has the same interests as you, take the shot.

3. Don't just shut people out, don't hate people just because you don't know them. This is an extension for rule 2, come to think of it, but don't act like everyone around you is a jerk. "A whole new bunch of people to hate" may not be people worth hating.

It worked for me. Senior year I had more friends than any other year of school, including three ladies who seemed to enjoy physical contact with me. My only regret is that I didn't learn to do this sooner.

9th can be bad since you're at the bottom of the pecking order of a bunch of insecure hormonal teenagers. I was lucky, I'm the big and scary type, I'm often described as an ogre. And I was in high school right after Columbine, so everyone was afraid of everyone else. Shadowman's right about opening up to people. Find a circle of friends, you might actually start to like it there.

anyways, i wouldn't really know seeing as i am not american(we dont have 9th grade over here, it would probably match up to year 9) but i do know that however boring school may be, with a bunch of awesome mates(you can probably make them suprisingly quickly if you try), and a few alright teachers, its not so bad.

...again. I have a feeling this year is going to be the worst of all.

I started 12th grade today. It's not looking to be great so far, but none of my classes are horrible (I am a bit worried about the high standards of my AP Euro History teacher, though, as well as the reputation my AP English teacher has for being an extremely difficult grader).

Don't worry too much about 10th grade. It wasn't horribly hard for me, and would've probably been easy if I hadn't taken my first AP class then. 10th grade was when I learned to truly care about school, mainly because of my AP US History class. My advice for you is to study, do your work as well as you can, ask for help when you need it, get on your teachers' good sides (if they have them ), stay out of trouble, and don't be a jerk.

It's the 11th grade actually... I made this thread when I was going to 10th, but I just had such a horrible feeling about today, that I just felt like posting again.

Today wasn't as bad as the first days of 9th and 10th grade, but it still sucked.

Sort of. It wasn't so much that I was considered a nerd as that few people knew who I was. I had switched schools, and only knew a few people. I wasn't bullied very much or anything, but I didn't like very many people, and never made any new friends. As for teachers, most of them were actually pretty good, and the worst one got fired a few weeks into the year, and had much better subs during the rest of the year.

That is pretty much how 6th grade went for me.

5th and 4th grade were the worst ever for me. Anything before that was bad, but I don't ever remember.

7th and 9th were my worst years by far, but 10th was exceptionally good gradewise. I don't have many friends either to tell the truth, and I don't play any sports. I've had pretty good teachers for the most part, and I think this year I don't have any "bad" teachers at all, and all of them except one have really good senses of humor. P
So, what I'd do is not dread this year. What happened last year and the year before happened already...it's gone, it's not coming back for you. Being negative about the near future is just going to make you mentally and emotionally drained. And you will only get out what you put in. Just be good to people; don't be sour about everything unless you want everyone to hate you.

Yeah, that sounds cheesy, but submission to adversity sucks. It just does. Like, I decided not no overreact when people tried to bother me this school year. I played along or just acted totally nonchalant and they were stumped completely. It's kind of funny actually. It's possible to do.

Hm... Looks like the thread got unlocked. That's a good thing! Hold out until college. College is when everything gets so much better. The only years of school I didn't get suspended were kindergarten and 3rd grade. At college everything's been A-okay! I haven't even hit anybody yet!
