Wow, thanks for those links Tramp, what an awesome resource! I didnt realise he has a little interior too - so cute!

The 'Classics' Bumblebee is a good figure, I reckon easily the best commercially available Bumblebee i've seen. I will eventually get one, hopefully sooner rather than later so i can study him in 3D!

I'm going to take some of that transformation style into consideration for my project - although i'm really not a fan of those door-mounted arms - and the doors are the current issue, apart from, you know, the whole rest of the model, heh. I need to get them out of there!!!

I've experimented with attaching them to the feet, but they are just too big and rectangular - it spoils the look of it. I cant get them to swing over the hips 'Tracks' style, because the wheels are in the way. I could try to leave them in place, but it makes the roof collapse idea 100 times trickier to do... So, i'm thinking either hide them behind his back under the rear shell (somehow :? ), or at least have them pop out slightly to give room for the chest to slide down...the thing is, i dont want the doors to cover over the sides of the chest because it spoils the curve of the roof/chest - it ALL about aesthetics folks! I want him to be a good looking robot!

Using the dashboard as a weapon G1Fan? Now THERE'S something i wouldnt have thought of! It would be a huge weapon too - the dash is massive! Maybe i could combine it with the engine to form some kind of super-cannon.......... :D

See? This is why this forum is so invaluable - so many creative minds to put to work on these projects makes for some great ideas! You guys rock! Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, I hope to get some more pics up once progress on construction resumes - I've been playing around with Bumblebee's dismembered carcass and working on my Motorcycle femme-bot, but i should come up with a solution soon, and you guys will be the first to see!

Oh, and T.V. - i'd really like to see that sketch, if you still have it - your Bruticus sketch was good idea-fodder, and everything is useful as far as i'm concerned! Thanks for the transformation advice - i'm not too familiar with ALT Smokescreen's transformation process, but the rest of your advice makes sense, and will doubtless be incorporated soon (i really like the idea of folding seats, regardless of whether they are useful or not - talk about hyper-realism!!)

one thing you could have done that's probobly not doable now is make the back end of the "bug" bumblebee's feet and the front part of his chest. That way his legs could be a little bigger maybe.

G1 Fan, that is what every other Alt Bumblebee has been like based off the consept design. This is supposed to be more G1 accurate using that transformation, not the concept one.

Postby Captain Crooks » Tue Oct 24, 2006 3:06 am

^^^ Darn right it is!! Well, that's the idea anyway, thanks Tramp!..

There is actually less room in the trunk anyway G1Fan, and all those other ALTS have cheeky legs and heads peeping out of the windows where the interior ought to be - and a proper ALT NEEDS an interior, with gear-sticks, hand-brakes, leather upholstery and cup-holders in convenient places. Uhuh!

So, I continue my journey....

A brief update - sorry for the lack of pictures guys, but the digital camera is in Thailand right now, and has been for a couple of weeks - it ought to be back this weekend, so i might have something to show here then!

I solved the dashboard problem - it is going to be attached to the same swinging arm that the bonnet is attached to, and will fold away under the rear shell in bot mode....very neat! The roof can now be made to slide down on a couple of tubes i've been cutting to size - so no more fat-guts for Bumblebee! but dont worry, he will still have his trade-mark roundness!

I'm trying a couple of different designs for the arms - and pillaging countless model kits to do so! I think i might go for arms that look more like his cartoon version - fairly square, no too bulky at either the top or bottom.

Stay tuned!!

some good arms would be those from alt meister/smokescreen/silverstreak/ricochet. they have wheels on them and do fold up.

^^^ Heh, ALT's are a bit too expensive in Australia for me to cannibalise, but I may copy the design and make them myself.

I originally planned on having them fold away just like the G1 Jazz transformer - where the hands attach to pegs on the opposite arm and form a square which is a solid frame for the wheels, and nice and neat to fit in the rear trunk. This plan may yet be changed - i'm too busy with the torso transformation right now to worry about the arms too much!! They WILL get in there somehow!!

Thanks for the suggestions G1Fan and lycanthropictendencies, if you guys have close-up pics of those arms, i'd really appreciate it!

EDIT: Actually, I HAVE got Deadend, which is the same as Sideswipe/Sunstreaker, so dont worry about that one!

You are probably too far into your own plan by now, but just in case it helps, I tried an Alt BB bash and I used an Alt Meister body which fit quite nicely into the VW shell. It took some work to get the legs in, but the arms fit into the front end like a glove. I'll pull him out and post a pic or two some time.

I live in Sydney too and there's a toy store in the mall at Warriewood (I think it's called Treasure Island Toys) that has a couple of Alt Meisters for sale for AUS$24.95. I even found the head a pretty easy remould into BB's.

Stencilator, once again, you are failing to grasp the transformation and look Captain Crooks is going for. He isn]ty using that ?concept? design woth the front end as a chest. He us using the classic G1 transformation anbd appearance (or a close approximation of it), with the car roof as the chest and the front end as the feet. The Meister body, and the Silver Streak/Smokescreen bodies are not suited to that look or transformation. None of the existing Alt bodies are.

Some arm shots:
Image
A hybrid of skids and meister arms might work for you. I like the looks of skids, but they may not fit under the bettle fender. Meister and the subaru both look kinda flat from the side, but I guess that's needed for the wheel behind the shoulder. The viper style might fit best for you crooks, if you have enough room to pull off the shoulder joint.
Good to see you're making progress. My alts have been sitting in pieces far too long.

^^^ Thanks for those arm shots Retread - and remember, it aint the size that counts, but how you sand, saw and putty them.... or something. I'm sure the designs will come in handy anyway!

Thanks for the heads up man, that's not a bad price! The cheapest i've ever found them was $30- at a sale in Toys R Us....in Adelaide!

Also, I would REALLY like to see that Bumblebee ALT you made- can you post some pics soon?! Pleeeeeeease?! I'm especially interested in the head, as it's an area I haven't given a heap of thought to yet - i'm still fussing over the torso transformation, heh.

Thanks a lot guys! New pics soon, hopefully!!

I'll put up some shots of what I did before giving up on my Alt BB. I think he was stuffed deep in the junk draw in frustration. I probably won't get to it 'til the weekend.

As for cheap Alternators.... I bought yet another Nemesis Prime from Hobbyco in Pitt Street Mall yesterday for AUS$26.95. They have a stack of them. Reprolabels Alternators Trailbreaker here I come.

Haha, i actually saw them unpacking those the other day, but they had no prices on them - i assumed, since all the others were $40- or so, that THOSE would be too.....silly Captain!!

I live about 10 mins walk from Pitt St Hobby-Co, and tomorrow is payday....

Thanks for the heads up!!

Hope to see those pics soon!!

Hey Captain

I said I'd post some pics of my attempt at Alt BB... and I will. I'm just a little embarrased at how dodgy he looks. Now I remember why I stuffed it deep in the junk draw, never to be thought of again.

The Meister head could be an easy remould but I obviously got too lazy. Remove the visor, round off all the square edges, cut off the cheek parts of the helmet and sharpen up those horns... maybe even cut them off and move them a little lower too.

I took these with my phone so they're pretty bad shots, but clear photos won't make this little bugger look any better.

give yourself some credit. I'd say the only thing off about that is the extra long arms, which really, not much can be done about.

^^^ Yeah, that aint a bad effort at all! The car mode is extremely good, real tight by the looks of it. I like the yellow stripes on the limbs, it matches ol' Bumblebee really well!

The arms could probably even be shortened if you really wanted to - the height of the bot mode is pretty much spot-on for Bumbles, so if they were made proportionate, i reckon it would look way cool!

Thanks heaps for sharing those pics man, especially given your misgivings at doing so! I really appreciate it stencilator!

^^^ At least this Bumbles has a proper HEAD though  .....and to be fair, the windshield does flip over his head in this transformation, which makes the roof supports look like shoulderpads - it's kinda clever i think! 8)

Dude thats actually pretty sweet!
Why be embarrassed? You did what so many people are afraid to even try!

I think you did a good job, and like previously stated, the fit is just outstanding!
I would be proud to display this piece in my collection of Alts.
