Ok, ok, ok, fine. Twilight is NOT better than anything... but I needed to get it out there to show how little I think of LOTR.

The reason I watched the ungodly boring extended versions... I was engaged to a fanatic. I hated the movies when they came out, long before I ever dated her, so my opinion was formed long before. I even had to drive 6 hours to take her to some lame museum exhibit in Indy. I guess that was only fair, as I made her drive 6 hrs to Chicago to see Transformers: The Movie (cartoon version) on big screen.

Well I'll just put it like this. The people who just don't get LOTR are as legit as the people who don't get TFs. It's just a matter of preference, and LOTR and TFs are on the different sides of the spectrum.

When it comes to Twilight. Just no. There is not justification for people who like Twilight. No. No. No.

I read the books back when I was in high school, and I thought the movies were very well done. The only thing that annoys me about LOTR are the elves.

Elves, much like pretty boy vampires(what happened to "creature of the night"?), are generally annoying, hehe.

Couldn't you apply the 'dumbing down the plot' style of mockery be applied to almost anything?

Stars Wars IV: Lots of sand. Whiny farm boy meets old man and blows up space station. Flying around in space.

Star Wars V: Lots of snow. Whiny farm boy fights **** in between flying through space.

Star Wars VI: Lots of sand. Whiny farm boy now refuses to use contractions. Flies through space. Blows up replica space station. Baddies defeated by care bears.

And that took every ounce of my skill as a critic to write! Honest!

I have always found magic in most fantasy stories (whether it be novels, video games, and movies) to be the most annoying thing in fantasy it always seems to be a "get out of jail free card" when the storyteller basically puts the character in the ultimate no-win situation.

Personally I can't stand dwarfs they are the same drunken miners with battle axes that don't know their asses from the sky (I would use a hole in the ground but since dwarfs are already in the ground) that why I think elves are far cooler.

Vampires are suffering because of the whiny loser emos vampire fiction out there. Lets see you are basically immortal, powerful, rich, and attractive. What's the downside here? Let me know when some makes a vampire movie or writes a novel where the vampires gets their fangs back. I am sick and tied of the whiny emo vampires.

I agree. Only on the premise that that dog turd is an intrical part of nature.

umm, first i dont like either of the movies and second, a giant robot could smack a vampire and anything in LOTRs as if it were a fly on their hand. giant robots are wayyyyyyyyy better! but that is my opinion i respect all others.

i understand the twilight MOVIES suck, but the books are just amazing. the hobbit put me to sleep, so i have to goiwth the OP here I-)

I don't understand. It's like you're making a sentence, but the words don't fit together in a way that makes sense. Everything after that comma just makes the whole sentence confusing.

so am i NOT entitled to my opinion? i like the books, big deal! just because you hate them dosent mean that i cant enjoy them. we all have likes and dislikes. :-x

I have read the trilogy. I had to force myself to read the first book because it jumped into too much detail at the expense of getting to the point. Really, whie I don't mind details, I think Tolkien could have worded his descriptions better to cut down on pages. Again that is my main criticism. The story really did not pick up for me until Return of the King where everything was fast-paced compared to the other two.

I've had my read of Lord of the Rings. I thought the books were too long. I had trouble getting through them. They could easily have been cut from about 1000 pages in total to 700 or 800. Way too much descriptive narrative. I like having the scene set but the books go overboard. The Hobbit I have read many times and love reading everytime. The LOTR movies are awful. They are a good cure for insomnia. I can't get through any of them without falling asleep.

I dunno, maybe its just me, but I don't think you should have to wait until the final part of a story to actually be entertained. It seems wrong.

Man I remember when the first movie came out. Me and my brother had heard good things about the movie, but we waited and he picked it up on DVD. We sat there through the entire thing, bored to tears, mocking the movie. And when they got in the boat I stated "wouldn't it be hilarious if the credits rolled right here?".....

Yeah. I realized about 5 seconds later that LOTR wasn't for me.

Really? Im the opposite, im glad i saw the movies first because i feel like i would have been slightly dissapointed, they really left out some cool stuff I would have been looking forward to seeing.

but yeah lotr can be hard to sit through if your not a hardcore fan so i can see why some dont like it much.

oh and on a side note someone said that the extended parts were pointless. well i say "the mouth of sauron" part was freakin awesome! ahhh!
