I hear you on that. There are somethings I am ok waiting for but for those that I am not I'll go 3P, as I can always sell off something if an official version comes out.

My favourite Decepticon in MP Form, this guy looks amazing in both modes! I have a few issues with him, mainly the torso not tabbing in correctly, but the plus' definitely out weigh the negatives. Who disrupts his coronation indeed!

He is a great figure, enjoy! That coronation kit really does bring a lot to the figure. Who's next on the wanted list?

Yeah, that's the figure that ruined me.
I did plan on quitting Transformers completely, saw him at AA2012, and thought "You know, that would make for a fantastic last purchase".
Now yeah....

It should be Grimlock, I actually thought this was Grimlock when the Postie knocked on, this little beauty arrived much sooner than expected.

It's a great feeling, isn't it?

I loved my Generations figures, but they served their purpose and my collection evolved. I'm packing the last of my Japanese Beast Wars and Car Robots stuff to finance the next year or so of Masterpiece figures even as I type this. I'm glad I clicked on this thread to see what was up!

I just ordered this morning, an MP-11SW Skywarp from a US ebay seller with an unopened box purchased from BBTS. 199.99 free shipping. W00t!

I've decided my first (and possibly only) 3P Masterpiece will be Apollyon. He looks great, and the prospects of an actual Masterpiece Megatron.2 is at least a year out, so I won't feel bad dropping a few bucks on a not-Megatron. I'd love a Quakewave, but he's simply too expensive.

There is the possibility of saving a buck on MP-11 Starscream if you have been keeping up in this forum...

Anyway, enough about me....welcome to Masterpiece collecting!

Yeah, I loved my Classics too, but like you say things evolve.

Nice work scoring Skywarp, he looks sweet, I'd get him next but Soundwave a Quakewave are the priority at the moment.

Apollyon look Sooooo good, I can wait I'll he's released.

I take it you referring to the up coming Hasbro MP Starscream? Sure he'll be cheaper but you just know Hasbro will screw him up somehow, I'm gonna try and keep things Takara where I can. They just seem to "get" Masterpiece much more than Hasbro. Plus I'm happy with what I paid for for MP-11.

I was referring to the Hasbro MP-11. In their defense, they didn't screw up Prime, Prowl or Soundwave. There might be deco differences with (most) of them, but they are effectively the same toy. With Starscream and the MP-11 mold, I concede there might be some down turn considering the mileage they've gotten out of the mold. When I got into Masterpiece, Starscream was supposed to be my third purchase, but I've dragged my feet on him for well over a year now. It is just difficult to pay 200.00 for something I got for 80 with a few less extras. I pulled the trigger on Skywarp because I don't see this one getting a TRU release in the states any time soon, and spending the 200 once as opposed to twice is would put me below budget.

Where the TRU release is concerned, I will wait until it is a reality, then I will decide on whether to grab the Takara version or the Hasbro version...but I do have some faith that Hasbro can get us a shelf-worthy US release Starscream that doesn't break the bank.

Fair point, with figures this expensive you've got to prioritise, which is why I'm nailing down my big 8" (Prime, Prowl, Bee, Grimlock, Apollyon, Starscream, Soundwave, Quakewave) before looking at anything else.

I take your point that Hasbro can do good MP's, but even the ones they get right (IMO) are overshadowed by the Takara counterparts.

Gotta have a plan! Sounds like your are on track, that is a very similar list to what my original was...of course I have been filling the time gaps (aka Pre Order wait time hell) with other things...

I know you said you want to stick to Takara figures but, I would say you will get a better bang for your buck with the Hasbro Soundwave since he comes with all the cassettes...and of course the yellow eyes. But the reprolabels set cured that issue for me...

In all honesty I didn't care about the eyes, the yellow looks good on him just as the red does...but I was going for the toon look...fortunately if I change my mind I can take the decal off :)

I already have the tapes as I used them as my Classics minions, and from what I can see the aftermarket prices on the Hasbro version are insane! So it looks like I'll be going Takara for him too. The only Hasbro MP's I can see myself getting are Roddy and possibly Thundercracker, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thundercracker is good, I actually like him more than Starscream, better made than him too.

But stay away from Rody, I have the Hasbro version, and it's awful, only get him as an accessory pack, as in get him only for his accessories. His paint chips off from being exposed to air, and his joints break just from standing on the shelf.

I got Thundercracker a few weeks ago and do feel he is tighter than Ss which is the Tak version. Same for Sunstorm(Has)...Skywarp is also a new addition and he feels great Compared to Starscream.

I recently got Hasbro Hot Rodimus and it is beeter than the Tak version still super fiddly tho' but I had to have him : grin :
Can't attest to longevity but he did feel sturdy to me the 2 times I transformed him....just oh so FIDDLY! Beware those feet going to calt mode they'll get ya.

If you already have the MP Cassettes, it only makes sense to get the Takara Soundwave (assuming you only want one of each figure).

I would recommend the Hasbro Thundercracker, as well. For one thing, there is only Hasbro Thundercracker. That reference I made early about an 80 dollar figure...I was referring to him (although he is a bit higher than that now).

When I say 120, I meant BuyItNow, which is how I do most of my ebay buying. Not sure what he's going for there, but I still see people listing him in my Masterpiece following feed.

At those prices, I'd rather wait for Takara one! Why is it the the Hasbro versions demand such high prices? I know the Takara ones get higher in price after the initial run but not to the degree of the Hasbro stuff.

In general, the Hasbro stuff doesn't get re-released. The only straight re-releases from
Hasbro so far are MP-01 and MP-08. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Makes sense, for someone playing catch up like my it's a no brainer, Takara every time.

While everyone collects differently and has different objectives, I think it goes deeper than that.

In my example...when I got into Masterpiece and actually bought something...which is not exactly the same I decided to collect - was when I found by good fortune the very last Masterpiece Optimus Prime in my market. It had been languishing in the office of the TRU nearest my in-laws, and I just happened to ask if they might have had one, not even expecting there to be one. When it was "current", I search high and low for it and could not find one. I was NOT about to pay the absurd mark-up for that figure in the aftermarket, and even the Takara version was at that time out of my price range. It was quite the find.

However, once I got that one MP-13 Soundwave was out and this time, rather than it simply being a matter of price - I preferred to wait for the US release because it was rumored to have the yellow eyes. I wanted the yellow eyes because, like most of us, I'm weirdly attracted to some characters as they were in toy form as opposed to strictly Sunbow - it didn't hurt that you'd be getting all the cassettes for about 130 US. 40-50 bucks cheaper at that time than JUST Soundwave/Condor. I've never regretted that purchase - especially since they included Ratbat with Soundblaster. Should I ever get a Takara Soundwave, it will be that one. I even passed on an MP-13 I found in a local recently - the guy wanted 200 for it. I paid 120 for mine with price matching. These things are expensive and I am still playing catch-up to some degree so I pick and choose based on factors such as expense, whether I prefer the more toy-centric Hasbro deco or the Sunbow deco (which is a 50/50 proposition).

While all this was going on the Hasbro Thundercracker supply was drying up and I stupidly let the last one I saw on the shelf pass because I was being "responsible" and didn't want to drop 80 bucks on a toy - fast forwarding, I ended up paying 110 + shipping when I grabbed one last summer - a very, very painful lesson. I did the same thing with Grimlock and Rodimus TRU releases for different reasons. Rodimus was inferior (clearly) to the Takara one and Grimlock is in this weird phase where they were working out the scale thing - and Grimlock is kind of a blah character for me. I did end up getting the re-release, though.

Anyway, when it comes to the cars the price doesn't seem to move - so that depended on how fast they would be released in the US and who it was. Prowl, being one of the top 5 characters period for me - was a Takara release because I'm just not willing to wait for Prowl. I've ended up getting all Takara cars, but that is mainly due to them not releasing them in a timely fashion here - to date Prowl is the only release. However, if Hasbro was going to bring them out in the next year relative to their release I would have waited for about half of them.

When it came time to buy Bluestreak, I ended up opting for Silverstreak because I just prefer the "one I had as a toy".

Ultra Magnus falls into the exact same category as Prowl, but worse. I got the Takara version...but I'm such a Magnus mark I might still get the US version for the toy deco.

All I'm saying is I work the Takara/Hasbro system as much as it makes sense.
'Til All Are One.
